Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
I’m still waiting for someone to offer a product that lets me ride my own Strava segments. I’d like an app that takes a route from my Strava history and replays it, while generating some nice scenery (obviously needn’t match the real thing!)
I’d love to spend all winter training on my favorite hill, and then try to beat my PR for real in the Spring.
This should be possible in the Wahoo ecosystem with RGT. Create a route in Strava and upload into RGT through MagicRoads
Once they expand it to all live segments it should be doable. You can already upload a gpx route and create your own ride in Rouvy
This was one of the first things that was done when the KICKR came out. See Ray’s post on that. The problem is that a lot of segments were initially created with not so great GPS data and map data. If it is a flat, you are probably ok. But for any hills, the grade jumps up and down all over the place due to funky data.
I’m not sure if there is a better way to do it now and smooth out the data.
Using wahoo RGT, upload your own gpx to create a magic road, and then create your own segments on this route :)
That is really easy! :-) There are a couple of cool ways to do that. You can upload your own created route from a GPS .FIT file or you can ride repeatedly against yourself using Virtual Partners when done in Time Trial mode and improve your PR. Or you can do lap time creation in the app.
One can do the above all on ROUVY! :-)
You say that and I admit that I am not that smart, but so far I have an hour invested into trying to figure out how and STILL cannot get it done. I did find something that said create route and I clicked on it, and uploaded a fit file and ………..nothing…….try as I might I CANNOT find this supposed route I created to ride virtually.
Dear Ray,
Could we get an updated comparison between all the training software? Zwift does not seem to have progressed much on the routes, and concentrates on events.
With indoor season soon approaching in much of the world, it would be nice to know in general if there will be any new indoor trainers with significant features to be released this fall, or if I just watch for someone dumping their now-unused pandemic purchase on Marketplace or CL. Just give us a wink or head nod if we should maybe wait to see what’s coming…
🤞 that one of the features is Garmin Training Effect data being added to the automatic Rouvy -> Garmin activity sync.
