Alright Wahoo, feel free to add Ant+ support now too. It’s cool, everybody else is doing it.
+1 Hurry up Wahoo!
Not sure if you’ve tried this, but with my experiences with several other wearOS watches, the trick to forcing the watch to update is often repeatedly tapping the “system updates” button like 5-10 times right after the other and it’ll check for updates a couple times in a row and usually finds the update.
> Go eff yourself.
Lol, our new iPad with up-to-date iOS was crashing last year. Was dropped from 2 races bc of it. So frustrating, one happened in the last 5 min. And yes I got the “it’s your hardware treatment”. Then later they said actually there was a bug impacting iPad users.
I am a fairly new user of Zwift. Couple of months. Frankly I’m not in awe of it. It’s buggy sometimes as you point out. But the worst for me is the price. It’s wayyyy too expensive. I’ll find myself a cheaper platform, maybe use my trainer’s one (Elite), or just nothing while watching Netflix which I already do sometimes while Zwifting. Anyway, ciao Zwift at the end of this monthly subscription. (The rise and fall of Grandeur struck entrepreneurs, blaming hardware and people… not going to get so much further)
The Bontrager RIDEtime Elite computer controls ANT+ lights. I pair it up with an Ion 200 RT/Flare RT on the commuter bike to auto start/stop my lights. Not as fancy as pretty much any Garmin, but displays the goods, and controls the lights. I use my watch to upload everything anyway.
Ignore the comment about tapping the update button so that it pulls it down, for the Suunto 7.
WearOS updates work from brands by being staged roll-outs, so for example: 25% of the total userbase receive it in week one, 50% by three week mark, 90% by a month
I received mine within two days of them posting the news on their website/forums, so got pretty lucky.
Would also like to see a re-review/edit of your initial Suunto 7 review if possible, as a lot has been added to the watch over the past year or so.
I was secretly hoping for sensor connectivity myself for the Suunto 7. From hanging out on their forum it seems this really isn’t even something on their roadmap for doing. Also it appears the Suunto workout app on the 7 runs off the smaller less power hungry co processor in the watch and that processor may not have the juice so to speak to run another connected Bluetooth device. Even during full map views when using navigation the sunnto app hands off to the main processor to be able to run that function.
I can’t verify these things are 100% accurate but it seems to be a story repeated on the forums over and over. Seems like sensor connectivity could still be possible anyway if a handoff pipeline to the main processor has already been established anyway but also most likely means battery life would be abysmal. I’ve noticed that myself just using the third party app sportygo for the watch. Which by the way I think has a terrible layout. At least you can connect Bluetooth sensors but you’ll also lose about 25% battery life for an hour worth of activity.
Good to see the Suunto 7 grow in features. I really like the look and feel of this watch but had to send it back. I was just too disappointed with the lack of features. Are they ever planning on providing strap support, Suunto sleep tracking, 1s daily heart rate tracking, tracking daily metrics in the Suunto app, etc?
I can’t speak for DC of course but in my time hanging around their forum it seems like sensor support isn’t on their roadmap as they don’t feel the market they are targeting with the Suunto 7 wants it (which I think it’s a huge mistake). Also apparently the Suunto training app on the watch runs off the coprocessor in the watch in order to extend workout battery life and that smaller coprocessor may have certain limitations that makes Bluetooth sensor support more challenging anyway.
I’m beginning to wonder if it’s time for Zwift to replace Eric Min. He’s doing a very good job of advancing his own ambitions (Tour de France, UCI World Championships, Olympics), but a poor job of supporting the community with bug fixes and features that the majority of Zwift users would benefit from.
All the activities of Zwift at the moment point to them trying to inflate the user base rather than cater to the needs of long term users. This usually means an IPO is in the offing, this is all part of Eric Min’s plan to maximise the value of the company. Unfortunately this isn’t the best news for long term users.
This new Zwift update seems to be the buggiest until now. Been in a smaller group ride and 3 out of 4 people had problems. Signal drop out, crashing etc. Really frustrating.
