Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
Two of the Peanuts? Does this mean that P3 made her arrival?!
Indeed. :) More soonish.
How did “Have a kid” not make one of the random things you did this week? It’s not exactly an every week occurrence. ;-)
Congrats on being outnumbered now!
Congrats Ray and the Girl off course!
Especially for the girl, she can now drink that Belgian beer from the open house :-)!
Yay! Hope as is well. Wishing you sleep.
haha, was about to write the same comment ;-)
Congrat’s Ray, The Girl and P2 who has upgraded to big sister now! As for P1 of course, she’s now appointed as team lead for peanuts making their parents mad!
JB!!! Shhhh I hid that beer in the gondola! Hahaha safe from Ray!! Hoping to crack it open this weekend!! Thanks again! See you in December??
JB!
Shhhh I hid that beer for myself in the gondola :) I have it on ice now, hoping to crack into it this weekend!
Thanks again! See you in December?
LOL !!! I’m sure Ray didn’t see this ;-)! Enjoy!
Yep, if it fits the planning I’ll be there in December!
Congrats again. I hope everyone is well and (eventually) well rested.
Hi Ray. I’m slightly confused by the Apple Watch return, there was nothing wrong with the watch? So you can return it within 14 days even if it has been used, just because you changed your mind? Didn’t know they excepted returns with out a fault?
Correct, Apple allows returns within 14 days for any reason. Just like most retailers, even if you just don’t like the color.
I never knew that, I will be checking other retailers returns policy’s in future. Thanks
For online sales, in the EU that’s actually required by law.
Pretty cool about the ESA visit…kinda wish I was a Peanut. At least I can pedal my own way.
Really interested in the True Kinetix bike…not sure why over the Wahoo/Kickr or Tacx bikes…could it be website/marketing?? Probably but maybe I am looking for another entrant to the market. Elite went and did a bike, albeit very cool, way outside the normal customer base.
Congrats on P3. Hope The Girl and P3 doing well.
What’s up with Scandinavia in the colouring book???
I’d give a pass if it were a random American book, but the EUROPEAN Space Agency!
Massive congrats!!!
Congratulations on P3! Hope everyone is well.
On the Apple Store return, we had a similar issue (also resolved) with the case for my wife’s new 11 Pro. We ordered the clear one when we ordered her phone. Despite being up and online super early, our delivery date was a week after release (which Apple beat by 1 day). However, they shipped the case the day after preorders. It arrived over a week ahead of the phone. She tried it for one day and decided it was too slippery. We went back to return it and now it was 15 days from the order. Of course, they accepted it back but needed to find a manager. Sort of silly to have to do that and even that they ship the cases so fast ahead of launch. Anyway, all fine and nice but felt like this could have been a known exception at launch without needing manager override.
I do know that during the holidays, they give you a nice long return period assuming things are not opened until Christmas morning.
Agreed with Ray’s point about the ecosystem ease in any case.
And again, congratulations Ray, the Girl and Pn inclusive (where n is a number 1-3).
OMG, with all these smart trainers I can’t wait for Extravaganza 2019!!!! I know it will be my year!! KICKR Bike, whoot whoot!
Congrats to the whole Maker family (all 5). And all the grandma’s & grandpa’s.
Belated congrats,
Are the rumours true that you are starting a gym in your basement? I see you already have the expensive stuff installed and ready to go ;-)
It was either starting a gym, or a ski resort with the gondola. Gym seems more profitable.
In a flat country like the Netherlands, he can compete with something similar to this:
“Copenhill”, the world’s first ski slope on a waste incinerator, is inaugurated facing the sea in Copenhagen, capital of Denmark, one of the flattest countries in the world”.
…and by the way, Ray! Michael Phelps has 3 boys, just for the “read between the lines” comment…
Congratulations BB & Ray!
From the gap of regular postings, we knew that something is going on…Let us see the new member of Rainmaker family by some “ecce homo” post…
Hi Ray,
Tacx has just updated it’s app. Do you plan to do a review soon?
KR
I might include it within a round-up of apps when things settle down.
Congrats on P3!
Oreka Platform- Wasn’t there a bigger company that was saying they were going to release something similar a few years ago. Looked cool, but stupid expensive.
Tacx has the Tacx Magnum – gigantic bike treadmill thing. Also, there’s Magnum ice cream in Europe, and the oversized Magnum condoms brand in the use. Both, unrelated.
P3? How did I miss this exciting news? Congrats Ray and The Girl.
Many congrats Ray!
Oreka looks like a Tacx Magnum without the steroids or, a smart roller on steroids.
Yup, exactly.
Congratulations to both of you!
It’s a good thing you’re filling the cave with enough smart bikes for the whole family!
Almost have enough. :)
Congratulations to the Maker family!
The DCR cave looks disturbingly similar to Walter White’s lab in Breaking Bad.
As an out and out high inertia cyclist I’m very interested in the True Kinetix bike.
I’m also perplexed by how you’re going to test it’s claims – Particularly as my perception of your riding is that you’re more of a rounded pedal stroke man.
Is GPLama getting one too? He likes to ride with high inertia.
Congrats Bobbie and Ray! ;-)
What is with all the TACX boxes? You starting your own TACX gym?
Water bottles. We went through 500 pretty quickly last time, so it was oddly almost cheaper to buy 1,000 versus 500. So now I have a lot of boxes.
Fwiw, you can actually pickup the water bottle here: link to clevertraining.com
Or, if you swing by the DCR Studio for something like the Open House, then you’ll get one too!
Congrat’s Ray,
Congrats on P3!!
Did I see 21 Tacx boxes in the first picture next to the stairs?
I thought the same. DCR branded water bottles perhaps?
Indeed, lots and lots of bottles – just clarified above: link to dcrainmaker.com
Congratulations to you, the gal and the peanuts. Enjoy this special time. I trust the missus and P3 are both well & healthy.
Congratulations to you all with the birth of P3! Hope all is well with the missus and P3 and you get some sleep!
Very belated congratulations!
Mazel Tov!
Thanks everyone for the congrats! Hoping to get things together enough to put out a quick post. Until then, The Girl beat me to it: link to instagram.com
Troll alert…
I never knew that BB Maker has a dedicated day, but here you go, today is your day…
Eliud Kipchoge did it!… Today in Vienna: Marathon 1:59:40
Was travelling and missed the oreka.. Am holding off buying new stuff until i see the oreka review.
If I can use it with TDA i am in the market. The magnum has a speed restriction making it only useful for uphill
