Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
Just in case. The FedEx tracking number is still pretty easy readable on the second picture.
Funny, I had originally done the erasure on my phone in a darker room, and then when I viewed again after your text while outside it was a different story. :) Thanks!
if you use a 3rd party running app, does the corner “swooshing” go away, ie are Apple doing the smoothing in their app vs the GPS chip?
I haven’t tried yet. I tend to mostly use their native app for base testing purposes, and then trial a few other apps towards the end.
It would also be interesting to export the .fit file for the Apple Workouts app and see if the points follow the actual path, but the app smooths things out. I could see Apple wanting their paths to look good.
I believe the exported data is also smoothed, see the DCR Analyzer link above where the Apple Watch path looks too good to be true :)
Correct, the recorded data matches the exported data and matches what’s shown in the Apple Activity app.
I had exactly the same issue with French Customs when they shipped my pre-production unit for testing… Seems like the guys shipping from the factory are not exactly on top of European customs procedures and taxes.
Yeah, according to FedEx all the paperwork is in proper order. So not really sure what’s up.
13.1 is supposed to come out tomorrow. I hope it fixes the Bluetooth problem I have with my Edge 830. (It’s weird to see it popping up notifications while claiming it’s not connected, and Connect can’t finish pairing with it.)
Yeah, I’ve gotten more BT pairing notifications than I know what to do with.
You get the impression that they only released iOS13 because they didn’t want to delay shipping the new phones. That’s fine and all, but they shouldn’t have let anyone else upgrade to it until it was fixed, as it’s a total basket case.
Hopefully 13.1 fixes it, but coming a week later I have my doubts it’s going to catch everything.
Totally agree. There’s no way this would have shipped had it not been for iPhone 11 ship date.
13.1 is out. But I don’t see the mail viewing or 3rd party keyboard access bugs listed as fixed.
they had to ship 13.0 for everyone on the 19th in order to support apple watch purchases on the 20th that required it. they would have had to delay apple watch sales if there was no 13.0
Any advice on whether the Cycleops H1 is a good deal in 2019?
I think it’s a fairly solid deal, especially if you don’t care about the noise.
FedEx is a dumpster fire 100% of the time, everywhere in the world, something is shipped to me via that courier.
Usually the FedEx folks here are pretty human and easy to work with, very e-mailable and will untangle most things. To be fair, I don’t really think this is a fight they can win outright. Though, I think they also have pretty strong control on the order of the queue.
I don’t mean to knock the folks themselves. FedEx CS agents themselves have seemed nice enough, but the system seems to be set up in the worst, least efficient way possible.
Hopefully your mileage varies better.
Is your FedEx going to New Hampshire?
Hey Ray!
just wondering if you’d do a review of Whoop. I saw in another thread dated a few years ago that you were thinking of doing it, but don’t think i found a post (or whatnot) on if you did it.
thanks!
