Ok folks, you know the drill – today’s the best day of the year short of Black Friday for deals, sports tech and beyond. What started just a few short years ago as an Amazon-only thing has oddly enough spread beyond Amazon, with other retailers and companies matching as well. One could easily just call it mid-July day, or Bastille Day Morning After. Whatever floats your boat.
I’ll be updating this list all day long as things come in and out, as well as via Twitter. Remember – things will come in and out. The whole point of Prime Day is short term sales. Stuff usually only lasts an hour or two. If you see something you like – grab it, it’ll soon be gone (and figure out how to return it later if need be). Also, I know a number of sports tech companies are indeed participating – both with and without Amazon, so I’ll definitely be highlighting those as I see them.
Now, despite it being known as ‘Amazon Prime Day’, the fine folks from Seattle aren’t terribly good with singulars versus plurals, and this year it’s actually two days – today (July 15th) and tomorrow (July 16th). And of course, any of the links you find here will likely support the site – so I very much appreciate that. And if you see anything else on Amazon you want, simply hit one of these links first and then search on Amazon and it’ll still help support the site. Easy-peasy!
You’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member, but you can use the free trial if you don’t have membership. Oh – and one more pro-tip: Most of the time Amazon will repeat sales during Prime Day – so if you missed out, check back every 3-4 hours, sometimes it’ll show up later on.
Sports Tech Deals:
These are all the deals on products that I’ve reviewed, had hands-on time with, or otherwise dorked with. Note: I’ll be trying to to include Euro deals as best as possible throughout the day, though sometimes it’s a bit tricky to find them across so many Amazon EU sites. The ones with the little ⚡ next to them are what I’d consider exceptionally good or rare deals. All the deals are very good, but these are ‘Buy now, ask questions later’ type things.
⚡ Apple Watches: 30-40% off Apple Watches: This includes the Apple Watch Series 3 down to $169-199, and the Apple Watch Series 3 LTE down to $224. Holy balls. Also, if you’re looking for a new iPad for your indoor training, some are upwards of 40% off.
Apple AirPods – $15-$20 off: This is the latest version, which has been working fairly well for me with the latest Garmin watches for music playback. And here’s the wireless charging case variant as well.
DJI OSMO Action – $30 off, down to $319: This is DJI’s first action cam that came out a bit over a month ago, and the first time we’ve seen it on sale.
DJI Mavic Air – $120 off, down to $679: I often mix and match this or the DJI Spark as my favorite drone for taking with me on travels and rides. Easily fits in back jersey pocket.
Elite Direto 2018 Edition – $639: This is a flash sale of 20% off for this super popular trainer (normally $799). While the new Elite Suito was just announced yesterday, it’s actually not a direct replacement for the Direto, as the Direto has a power meter in it, which the Suito lacks. Solid deal if you want a trainer immediately.
Fitbit Wearables- $30 off Charge 3 & Versa: Pick your tracker, it’s the same $30 off each one!
⚡ Fibit Ionic – $50 off: This GPS capable unit includes music and contactless payments as well.
Garmin Edge 820 Mapping Cycling GPS – $229 – 34% off: While this unit was recently overtaken by the Edge 830 – it’s still a really solid cycling GPS with mapping/navigational capabilities.
Garmin Fenix 5 – 33%, down to $399: There’s a slew of models here, so you kinda need to poke around at which colors/etc, but basically they start at $399 for the non-Plus edition. These lack music/payments/etc.
Garmin Fenix 5 Slate Grey with Black Band only – $349: This particular duck is available only on Garmin.com and only in this specific configuration. But it’s $50 cheaper than above.
⚡ Garmin Forerunner 35 – down to $89: If you’re looking for an entry-level running GPS watch, there’s no better deal on the market than this right now.
Garmin Forerunner 645 (non-music) at $269: If you’re looking for a running-specific watch with lots of features, this is still Garmin’s top-end unit that’s purely running focused.
⚡ Garmin Forerunner 645 Music down to $299: Very strong deal, especially if you were looking at the Garmin FR245 Music, as the FR645 has more functionality in it.
Garmin HRM-DUAL Strap – $61: This is only about $10 off, but it’s never ever on sale, so there’s that for ya. This is the newest strap released a few months back that does not just dual ANT+/Bluetooth Smart, but dual-Bluetooth Smart. So you can pair to both Zwift and another device via Bluetooth concurrently. It’s also my go-to strap these days.
⚡ Garmin Vivoactive 3 – down to $149: Damn, that’s probably the best deal of the day here.
Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music to $178: Or, for $28 more you can get music storage onboard, including offline Spotify support.
Garmin Vivofit Jr 2 – 40% off, down to $47: This appears to be only certain editions of it, but still, a solid deal. My oldest Peanut loves wearing hers, even if she doesn’t fully understand it yet. Any parent I talk to loves it though (it’s used in some ways more for chores and stuff than straight activity tracking). Full post here on how it works, it’s better than you’d expect.
Garmin Wearables: 30-50% off many Garmin watches: This includes the Fenix 5 series, Forerunner 35 (down to $89!), the Vivoactive 3 (down to $149!), and even the Garmin Forerunner 645 Music among many others.
⚡⚡ GoPro Hero 7 Black at $299: I’m seeing this coming in and out, so you’ll need to keep checking back for it. Seems to show up every few hours as I see a bunch of people snag one, and then it disappears again. On the flip-side, the below deal at $349 including an Amazon $50 gift card is likely the same for most people anyway.
⚡ GoPro Hero 7 Black $50 off ($349) & $50 Amazon Gift Card included: It’s kinda like getting cash back. It’s also my main action-cam go-to.
GoPro Hero 7 Black – $50 off and 32GB SD card included: Not from Amazon, but slightly different than the deal above.
GoPro massive accessory package: I got almost this exact same package earlier this winter. The price is normally $25, but it’s set as ‘Upcoming’ for a deal later today.
Polar H10 ANT+/BLE Strap – 20% off: This includes the latest strap from Polar which now includes transmission over ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart.
⚡ SanDisk MicroSD Cards for Action Cams – 30-60% off: I use plenty of SanDisk cards for my action cams and drones. Seriously, I have a disturbing number of them. My personal sweet spot is 128GB, but I often buy 256GB cards.
Scosche Rhythm 24 & Rhythm+ – $20 off either: Both are great little optical HR sensors that transmit both ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart. The R24 also has onboard storage capabilities.
Suunto 9 GPS – 25% off, down to $399: If Suunto is your jam, then this is a reasonably solid price for this unit!
Wahoo Fitness sensors – 20% off: This includes the dual ANT+/BLE TICKR HR strap, RPM cadence sensor, speed sensor, and BlueSC dual speed/cadence sensor.
⚡ Withings Body+ Smart WiFi Scale – nearly 50% off to $49: Definitely one of my favorite smart scales. Can’t go wrong here. (Keep checking back on this one, I suspect we’ll see it again on Tuesday).
European Deals:
Generally speaking most Amazon EU sites (UK/DE/IT/ES/FR) will ship within the EU without issue. Generally being the operative word. If Amazon lets you, then you’re all good. If it doesn’t, then sometimes sneak around to the other Amazon sites and occasionally it’ll work there instead.
Garmin Wearables: 30-54% off many Garmin watches: This includes the Fenix 5 series, Forerunner 35 (down to 79GPB!), the Vivoactive 3 (down to 149GBP!), and even the Garmin Forerunner 735XT triathlon bundle and the Vivomoves are here. This DOES support shipping to mainland Europe.
⚡ Garmin Edge 820 – 50% off, down to 189EUR: Dang, that’s a very sweet deal on this unit.
⚡ Polar Vantage V – 50% off! That’s a slamming good deal, down to 220GBP. Also shippable to mainland Europe.
Polar Vantage M – 36% off: Also a good deal, note too that both the Vantage V & Vantage M will receive the vast majority of the new features from the Polar Ignite, later this year.
Polar A370 – 55% off: This is their activity tracker that can also leverage your phone’s GPS.
Other Stuff:
Things in this bucket are basically the things I’m buying or have bought that may or may not have to do with sports tech, but I know a lot of you are curious about other tech-type purchases I make – such as photography or foodie contraptions or such. All of these are of course on sale.
⚡ Apple iPad – 24% off, down to $249: This is exactly what I use – exact model and all – for all of my tablet based stuff. So that includes Zwift, TrainerRoad, Sufferfest, and many other apps when my main screens are busy.
Amazon Echo Dot – 56% off: We have Echo Dots at both home and studio, just the simple $22 version is all we need and also keeps the kids happy playing music.
Anker Battery Packs – up to 46% off: I’m kinda a battery pack hoarder. I’ve got a small fleet of Anker and RAVPower battery packs always handy. I’ll likely stock up on a few more…for reasons that realistically make no sense.
Bose Soundlink Around-Ear Headphones – 31% off: I’m super tempted to pick up a pair of these mainly so I can get away from the AAA batteries of my existing Bose headphones. Still undecided on them. Will let ya know if I do here.
DJI OSMO Pocket – $30 off: I wouldn’t recommend this for sports usage, but I do actually use it a bunch at trade shows and around events. It’s a incredibly small stabilized camera.
Elgato Green Screen – 20% off: This is what both myself and GPLama use for any green-screen content we do. Lama uses his way more than I do. :)
Elgato Cam Link 4K – 23% off to $99: This little USB accessory allows me to record/stream cameras, but also is what I often use to record Zwift from Apple TV & my laptop.
KitchenAide 5QT Mixer 48% off: The foodie in me would happily pickup another one of these, despite the fact that we have a few already (look, we ran two bakeries). They’re complete work-horses for us – having produced likely hundreds of thousands of cupcakes and still chugging along. Like this section said, nothing to do with sports tech, everything to do with my belly.
⚡ SONOS ONE – $129 (from $199): This is a really solid deal, though seems to be in and out in terms of availability, so definitely keep checking back on this one for sure! We use SONOS units around the home and absolutely love them. I’d happily pick up another as soon as I see this live again.

Polar Vantage V is £220 on Amazon uk
Awesome – thanks, just added that in, as well as the Vantage M and A370.
Out of stock. Full price now
The suunto 9 baro is pretty low, and has an additional 20% coupon. Maybe the cheapest I’ve seen? And will probably make me pull the trigger on it.
Where are you seeing it? UK or DE, or?
At the moment Amazon.es is displaying Suunto 9 (non-baro) for 299€. I’m pretty sure I saw the same price earlier st Amazon.de, but now it .de shows 349€.
The baro models seem to be ~460€ at .de and .es
Oh, sorry, US.
Garmin Deals on AMZ DE, including Edge 820 @ 190€

Sweet deal indeed – thanks, just added in!
Is there any reason not to grab the 645 forerunner at the same price or cheaper than the 245 now?
The FR245 does include some minor carry-overs of newer FirstBeat metrics that the FR645 doesn’t have, but honestly, for 99% of scenarios, I’d probably go FR645 Music instead. Check out the end of the ‘What’s new’ section of this piece where I cover those differences: link to dcrainmaker.com
I just picked up the 645 music, for the wife, for $299 from amazon! $150 off

Ouch, that’s a difficult one to crack, Vantage V 50% off!
I always had in my mind to wait until Black Friday, as then you’d also have the new Apple Watch and possibly a Fenix 6 to compare against. And off course, the Fenix 5 plus will be on Black Friday also “cheaper”, certainly if a 6 is out.
And with Black Friday, we’d hopefully have more news if Polar adds Fitspark or not, and possibly enables ANT+.
so… I’m going to wait, just sharing thought process if other people would be going through the same thing :-).
Damn, I was hoping to snag a cheap Garmin FR 645 here in Europe during prime day but it appears that those are only on sale in the US.
Amazon.de has the Polar Vantage V at €330 which is a lot more than the 220 GBP its in the UK (244 euros) but at least Amazon.co.uk should ship across Europe without extra VAT.
For someone who was looking for a FR645, what would you say is currently the best deal on a comparably priced or performing running watch from the European Amazon sites?
Ya never know though, it’s two days of sales. I find Garmin deals and the EU/UK odd sometimes (in a good way). Often better deals than the US.
Is not shipping to Germany according to my amazon.co.uk account. Seems like I am stuck with 330€..
Likewise, I was hoping to snag either the music versions of FR645 or FR245, but neither are on the UK amazon. Frustrating.
Yeah, I’d just wait. I’d be surprised if we don’t see them before tomorrow is out.
Well, Polar seem to have raised the prices on their Vantage V sale on Amazon.co.uk by the time I got home, over 7 hours before the expiry time that was displayed. It’s 275 GBP now. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a FR645 sale tomorrow then as that’s the watch I was looking for anyway.
Vantage M, Amazon Italy, 169,90€: link to amazon.it
How likely is a refresh to either the Vivosmart 4, Vivosport or Vivoactive 3M to be coming in the upcoming months? Thinking of getting myself a secondary activity tracker during Prime day.
Always hard to know, but based on historical trends they were doing annual refresh cycles, and last year if you counted the Vivoactive 3 Music as a refresh cycle, than that was roughly one year.
In terms of GPS and heart rate accuracy, which one is better? Polar Ignite or Vantage V?
I like Ignite’s look but its battery life is a lot worse than Vantage V.
I don’t know which one to get.
I see accuracy for HR as same between the two. But for GPS accuracy, Vantage V is better.
Thanks for your reply. Thanks for your reviews.
I looked on the Garmin (US) site, the Fenix 5 (Slate Gray with Black band only) is $349.99 so an extra $50 off this watch.

Very nice find, adding in!
Hi Ray, how does the Garmin Edge 820 at 189€ compare to the newer 830? Looking at my first bike computer.
That’s such a solid deal on the Edge 820, that it’s hard to justify another 200 for the Edge 830.
I dunno if I agree with Ray’s assessment here. I tried to replace my 520 with the 820 and only managed a day before returning the thing. The CPU is so underpowered that the navigation features are useless. Combing the slow CPU response with the terrible touchscreen it has, and it was an exercise in frustration. I found the new 520 Plus to be superior to the 820 in every possible way. I’m not sure how the Prime day pricing on it compares. I saw go with the 520 Plus or the 830 (if you want full map routing on-device), but let the 820 die in peace.

In terms of indoor pool tracking ability, does high end garmin watches (645 ) track distance better than a vivoactive 3?
Not really, about the same.
After doing 2-3 pool swims/week with my 645 over the last couple of months I have realised that it is more likely to miss laps when doing breast strokes, compared to crawl.
But if I make sure to slap the edge with the watch hand after every lap it never misses one.
Withings Body+ Scale is $49.80 on amazon, pretty good deal on a solid scale that captures body fat %, water %, bone mass, muscle mass in addition to weight.
Can use my app Smart Scale Sync to send your weighins to TrainerRoad, Garmin, Fitbit, Peloton, Concept2, Strava :)
hi Patrick
your terms and conditions link to smartscalesync.com says “Garmin/TrainerRoad/Concept2/Peloton do not provide a free API for 3rd party developers”
I’m not sure this is true for garmin any more
link to dcrainmaker.com
Yeah they made the announcement for Garmin Connect API V2.0 a while ago but it’s not live on the developer page yet and no idea when that will happen.
The Health API is available today (unclear if that is Garmin Connect API v2.0), but it doesn’t support uploading data. I might be able to use it to sync weight out of Garmin though, going to take a look.
first US go pro link for me
Currently, there are no sellers that can deliver this item to your location.
wahoo link US
sorry couldn’t find that page
I think the GoPro link is now live/back/happy.
Garmin Forerunner 235 or Vivoactive 3?
The FR235 is more of a runners watch, whereas the VA3 is more of an all-rounder.
Hi Ray,
For a basic running watch (and if possible swimming in pool) what would you suggest between Polar M430 and Garmin 35 if they are both at 99€ ?
Sportivement,
Lionel
FR35 doesn’t do pool tracking, though I don’t think the M430 off the top of my head does pool distance tracking either. :-/ Though, the M430 will at least allow the optical HR sensor during pool swims.
Functionality speaking, the M430 is a much deeper watch than the FR35.
Thanks Ray !
UK has £50 cash back (via Garmin) on Edge 830 too making that £300 which is amazing for a just released unit.
Is the GoPro with $50 gift card dead? I can’t seem to get it on Amazon.
link to amzn.to
Hmm, I still see the Amazon GoPro + $50 gift card deal. Maybe it just came back?
Garmin Edge Explore for 159 EUR. That is a sweet deal I think…

Ray for the Vivoactive 3 vs Vivoactive 3 music if you don’t care about the music is there any downside to getting the non music version? Besides the bevel the only difference I see is the music version has a gyroscope which not sure what advantage that gives. Price difference is negligible. More concerned about software update support and durability as besides running and cycling I am a rower and items tend to get banged around in a racing shell
No downside at all. They’ve been getting concurrent updates the entire time.
And in fact, I actually kinda like the look of the VA3 non-music over the VA3-music, mainly due to the bezel design being more pronounced (and thus more protective).
Seems that amazon.uk offer on Vantage V expired even as the timer showed 5h+ :<
My daughter really wanted the vivoactive 3 but needs it in white. The white do not appear to be on sale.
Help! Any alternative sites matching Amazon’s deal.
Thanks
John
I see the white/silver blend for $188 on Amazon still. It’s not $149, but…it’s better than $224.
If you could get either the PowerTap P1 or the Assioma Duo for approximately the same price, which would you choose? Which head unit do you or “The Girl” consider best for using with the Assioma Duo?
Assioma Duo, easily.
I primarily use an Edge 530, but also throw in an Edge 830 and 1030 here and there (or pull out the Edge 520 Plus’s when required for an expanded fleet). The Girl has been using an Edge 530 and Edge 520 Plus. She also uses Assioma Duo’s.
Thanks!
Assuming Favero/Assioma releases an update to support active cycling dynamics sometime soon, will all of the Garmins you mention support it? The Garmin site only mentions support for this feature on the Vector pedals. Alternatively, would the Element Bolt?
Not all Garmin’s, because the protocol is very slightly different. Off the top of my head, it’s all the x30 series Edge units, and some of the Edge x20 series (I think 520 Plus, 820).
You can double-check in the release notes to see if they added support – it’d be noted after roughly fall 2018.
The Wahoo units haven’t done any support for cycling dynamics at this point.
Am I the only one who is really disappointed that the 945 doesn’t even have 10% off?
Given Garmin can barely keep it in stock at this point, no reason to discount it.
Ya, good point. These people must have great accountants (like you mentioned in your review post!)
I’m still trying to debate if I want it so badly I’m willing to pay full price.
Amazon had a one-day $60 direct cash back if you spent $500 (yesterday), and since it was Prime Day, there was 6% cash back in addition if you used your Amazon credit card.
That equated to $100 “off”…. and I pulled the trigger and bought the 945 yesterday, because I don’t expect to see it go on sale until at LEAST Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and maybe not even then if we’re honest…. Might be after Christmas before we see it on sale since they are going to just try to move whatever remaining 935’s they have.
I actually pulled the trigger too, when I realized. Really hoping to get the $60 back, seems like there were a ton of loopholes. (Yes, I made sure it was sold by Amazon, not some other seller, and I purchased through the app.)
I don’t have an Amazon credit card yet, but I figured $60 was the 10% off I’d asked for, lol.
Hi,
Sometime visitor here. As a retired Cat. 2 Roadie, I very much enjoy your content
Can you tell me, are you making any money off these links.
Thanks!
Thanks – indeed, most of the links do support the site (Amazon primarily), though a handful do not but are just good deals out there (such as the Garmin.com links for the Fenix 5).
An honest answer for an honest question. Thanks, sir.
Thanks, Ray, I got the GoPro massive accessory package for $18 and change.
Awesome – enjoy!
Hi, Looking at the offers, any thoughts about the best buy between the Garmin Forerunner 735XT with HR band for £190 or Fenix 5 for £285. I would be using it for running/cycling and swimming.

Amazon workers are striking over working conditions and low pay. Amazon treat their workers like this to get prices lower than the competition. Don’t be a scab, support the workers and buy elsewhere.
The Withings Body+ scale looks tempting, but does if *easily* sync with Garmin Connect? IIRC, it did not at the time of Ray’s reviews – but that was some time ago and maybe before the Withings-to-Nokia-to-Withings transition. Things might have changed. The Withings web site says that it syncs with 100+ partners, but does not call out Garmin specifically. Anyone know?
To get the measurements from my withings scale to Garmin, I have to send them through MyFitnessPal.
This works smoothly and I haven’t had to change anything, even when Nokia briefly owned Withings.
The only thing is that Garmin only receives the weight and no other measurements.
Not directly no. My scale syncs with MyFitnessPal, which in turns passes things on to Garmin.
The free route is through MyFitnessPal, but it will only send your weight and it hasn’t been stable for everyone, YMMV.
The app I created (in response to MyFitnessPal’s data breach) is called smart scale sync and it will send all of your weight and body composition metrics to Garmin from Withings. It’s gotten positive reviews amongst TrainerRoad users: link to forum.trainerroad.com
I’m a big fan of the Body+, the other scale I was considering is the Renpho, which is $20-$30 on amazon and syncs to Fitbit. But it seems like it would be a pain to have to pair it with my phone every time I wanted to weigh myself in. The Withings scale connects to your wifi network and then it’s hands off, no need to pair each time.
Edge 520 Plus for £150 – link to amazon.co.uk
Very tempted indeed…
Suunto Spartan Sport wrist on amazon.it 199 € on amazon.de 265 € intresting. Can I change the language?
I’m waiting for offer for the 245 Music or an offer for the 645 Music like the one in the states…
any thoughts on why the Garmin instinct isn’t reduced?
It’s selling too well. ;)
Wow, tough decision for me here.
Amazon.ca has the Suunto 9 Baro on for $439CDN and the 645M for $399CDN. Both are nicely discounted from their usual price. It would be replacing a Spartan Sport HR that annoys me for two reasons:
1) No barometer in that unit so altitude is always way way underreported.
2) The wrist based HR is somewhat of a debacle. VERY hit or miss, even on smooth road rides.
I’d be using it mostly for cycling, but there will be some running and other fitness activities in there. I don’t use a power meter when cycling and probably never will.
Thoughts?
I’d agree, that’s a tough call. You’ve got ‘history’ with Suunto, so you’re data is there.
The Suunto 9 Baro is better if you were doing some super long ultra-type activities. Whereas I’d see hte FR645 Music vastly better as a runners watch in terms of metrics/structured workouts/etc, as well as an all-arounder watch.
I will do all-day epic rides on occasion, but that is the exception rather than the rule. No ultra-marathon runs or things of that nature. The current Spartan Sport HR does well on battery life for my needs.
Moreso I was hoping the 645M would be a better software experience, in addition to the barometer and different HR sensor.
Just in case you hadn’t already posted it, looks like Garmin’s Smart Scale is on sale too.

$150 off the E-motion rollers. http://www.insideride.com
Thx for doing the leg work on this. I shared the information with my HS runners. Some of our younger runners don’t have a GPS watch yet, and these prices make the tech accessible. TY
Just received my vivoactive 3 music. I got a refurbished one!! Defo didn’t realize that when placing the order on the 15th
That’s definitely not right. The links I had above were (and still are) only to refurb ones. I’d write Amazon, perhaps some vendor substituted it out, but it’s not the same SKU, so Amazon/whenever is in the wrong there.
All that said, as an aside Garmin refurb products are basically as close to brand new as possible. Even going back to the same exact factory.
Anyone in Australia chasing a Fenix 5 plus, Rebel Sport have got them for A$499 until Aug 4. $500 saving it seems.

Prime Day is over, but Polar is having a one-day (today only) 20% off sale on Vantage M and V, and OH-1+ and H-10. The checkout code is PEACHTREE.
Thanks for your work Ray! I went for the Apple Watch based on your reviews and the 199 deal.
The workoutdoors app rocks! this will make my MTB riding and running on unknown trails much easier-no more carrying phone :D. Cool watch, still messing with and totally psyched! I’m gonna train for my first marathon with it just because! LOL
