Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
lol on mic drop at end of post. excited for that review–especially on the shape compared to 520, bolt. just looks odd to me
And yet…you look so proud of your painting :-)
I actually DID spit out my coffee when I scrolled down to your painting so…well done. I guess you warned me fair and square.
Ray, I must say I am REALLY happy with your painting. First because it´s about on the same level as mine. Second, and most important, it leads to one temptation less for you to change your true calling into something else, and depriving us of your posts. Third, it would be most unfair if besides writing, filming, and photographing well you were also a great painter….
Thanks for all,
Mario
The joyful pic of the peanut makes up for the dreadful painting.
Those cookies!!!!!!!!
Aqueduc of Buc on your picture !!! On the road to Vallee de Chevreuse !
Indeed, one of my favorite little roads.
I hope you updated your weight in all the appropriate places to account for all that tech ;)
The picture belonging to the Asiatic looking lady on the right – it’s in a red frame –, looks absolutely fantastic.
How much for the painting?
Dear Bobbie,
Can we pretty please have your favourite cookie recipe? I made your Christmas ones from the newsletter, and they were awesome!!
Since you get the newsletter, just click on the email link at the end of the newsletter and send me a note. I’ll type out this cookie recipe for you! It’s Rays new favorite!
On the way… :)
Put the TheGirl’s painting up for bid so we can feed Peanuts cheese habit. Um, not sure what to do with the one on the right, but hey, art is in the eye of the beholder.
Or… put the recipe in the newsletter! :)
Great, thx! Email will follow ;-) Sounds like a perfect end for lent next week! :-)
“Oh, this is my painting. The masterpiece on the right.”
So you took it straight to the Louvre, right?
They actually came and picked it up in an armored vehicle.
Can’t blame them there. And they even have a perfect spot for it. They just have to put Mona Lisa in storage.
Mona Lisa goes out :

Ray’s painting goes in (note the Elite Drivo-like armored vehicle):

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Peanut is one cute baby! As for your painting style, the term Naïve springs to mind, a la Henri Rousseau…
In your “Riding with some gear” section, how did you take that picture of both hands? GoPro mouth mount?
No mount, just mouth.
I envy your living in Paris.
If you actually managed to get to live here, you might not feel quite the same way after a short while.
It partly depends you’ve moved from. If your previous address was in Iraq or in Kabul, then Paris might seem a better bet – just.
Cookies are always a good place to end :) Btw, the Girl’s painting is really good!
The pic of The Peanut, The Girl and you in the cheese shop is awesome! Ya’ll look so happy it made me smile!
I have no doubt my own painting would be worse than yours. At the end of the semester, my 8th grade art teacher recommended that I not take any more art classes in high school because I had absolutely zero talent. I couldn’t disagree with him, and followed his advice.
The cheese looks great, the cookies even better, and the Peanut is a charmer.
You’re not going to get the (supposed) aero benefit of the Bolt mounted there :)
So, no more Quarq DZERO on bike. Is DZERO review just around the corner?
By the way….you are a MUCH better painter than myself :p
Should be up any day now!
Prior to today, all my judgement on your aesthetic tastes centered on working at MSFT and the inability to discern the typically atrocious Garmin designs. Now we have proof ;) maybe you should hire someone to evaluate app and device design?
Great to see the Rotor 2INPower on the bike. I’m looking forward to the review.
BTW – The Peanut is adorable. But you knew that already.
