Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. But wait, are you a female and feel like these things might not apply to you? If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
As much as I come to your site for technology news and reviews, random things posts remain just about my favorite. Looks like a great weekend. Similarly beautiful in your old home town of DC this past weekend. . .
Thanks – glad you enjoy!
I know that sometimes the 5 Random Things and Week in Review posts are the first to get cut when time gets tight, but, always good to know folks enjoy the blend!
Absolutely, the trainer update is exhausting to read let alone the effort to put it together. Throwing in a good crepe or chocolate outting makes it worthwhile.
Hey, by the way, how is the French coming along?
I’m excellent at ordering Nutella-banana crepes…
Definitely enjoy the random fun things
Frankly speaking – I was missing the weekend posts. Is the food market you are describing above the Marché des Enfants Rouges ?
Yup, that’d be the one. Totally different from most other food markets in the city. You can still get the core staples that you need from 1-2 vendors in each category, but the majority of the market is for mini-restaurants.
Thanks for the heads up about the running tours, going to be in Paris for a few days next month and never been before, sounds like a great way to get my bearings and learn a bit about the place!
I can only echo what people have said above. These “life” posts are what makes your site different and worth visiting regularly.
On my last visit we hit up the Jardin du Luxembourg based on one of your previous posts, and it was really nice and tranquil – a nice changeup from the rest of the city. Watching the kids with the boats was good fun. You should get some form of commission from the Paris tourist board for incentivising visits to the City!
It was just a shame about the visit being post-cupcakery. I think you replied to my tweet about the empty storefront – sad to hear your lease wasnt renewed and yet it’s still unoccupied. Such a waste!
The CupCakery closed? I must have missed that post. How sad!
The main location is, after the owner of the space wanted the space back to do her own thing. We still have our second location, but that’s more for events/catering/custom orders/etc…
We’ve looked at a few spots in the area for a storefront again, though at the moment things are pretty busy life-wise to try and deal with all the construction/etc of opening a new place again.
I think the cord is out of STOCK (on the camera cable picture)
see we read what you write – DC
Any ETA on the ANT+ talks?
Thanks!
PS: VTOL on the aircraft carrier is totally clickbait, especially considering it’s 13 feet long? Surely they could have tried harder.
Sorry, had to spend a little bit of time getting the slides overlaid, since it wasn’t quite visible. Once I got the hang of doing it in FCP, I was able to fly through them. All up now of course!
Yeah, I would have thought they could have upped the ante on that carrier…
I feel like we’re being shortchanged on pictures of the Baby. I know you have like 10k pics already and we get one of two here and there. I’m not asking that you change the focus of the blog, but sneaking her into every single product shot would not only be adorable, but everyone knows puppies AND babies sell. So, its a win-win. Keep up the great work!
How ’bout we split the difference and go with every other shot?
Living the dream, Ray, living the dream. And she is one seriously cute Baby!
Thanks!
A different kind of camera shoe mounting bar may have made it possible to connect that cable to your monitor. A good option (in the US, anyhow) is the Vello 6″ cold shoe extension bar – link to bhphotovideo.com
That kind of bar offers a little more flexibility with where you can mount stuff, too. Plus, it makes the camera a bit shorter, which an be nice.
Nice, I agree, that is a nicer bar.
I did find it somewhat annoying that the VL35 has to have a riser thingy above the shoe-mount (quite a ways), which adds even more height. :(
But the new cable came first thing Monday morning, and helped out a fair bit.
Was in Paris for work Wednesday through Saturday last week. Didn’t have time for much of anything non-work except Friday evening visited one of your favorite restaurants, Comme Chai Toi. 2nd time I’ve been there now thanks to your recommendation. Fantastic! Highly recommend it to any of your readers looking for a nice dinner spot.
Glad you enjoyed! Indeed, Comme Chai Toi is one of our favs, and everyone who swings through town seems to love it.
The Amazon link for the small preview screen is broken, and just leads to the generic Amazon site.
I think it may be because you’re in the UK, so my Amazon thingamajig is trying to convert the links to Amazon.co.uk from Amazon.com.
Here’s the Amazon.co.uk link: link to amzn.to
Failing that, it’s the Ikan VL35.
Enjoy!
Ha- it looks like we have the same diaper bag- albeit ours is a double.
I too love these features.
Our son was born within about a week of your daughter so it’s always nice to see how you’re little family are doing, she’s got a lovely smile. Harry only smiles when he gets fed! :-)
