Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. But at the end of the day, you might just be wondering “What does Ray use when not testing new products?”. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2023 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
Very short sighted, I go back to companies that sell good products and have good customer service.
Not selling the inserts separately anymore is poor.
Will make me look to other companies in future.
I may be misremembering, but I thought in your barfly post you hinted that K-Edge would have a TT Garmin/GoPro mount announced as well. But you didn’t mention it here. So is barfly the only option for a TT combo mount?
From a stability standpoint do you think it (or the K-Edge if it exists) would be batter or worse than the Nutt’r?
No, I was talking about PowerPod being the other option (aka Velocomp) – they’ve created a TT mount in combination with Womo Designs (company out of Seattle). I got the unit on Friday, and just got back yesterday, so will be trying it out today. I had talked with K-Edge about such a mount last year at Interbike, but nothing has come of it yet.
As far as K-Edge vs NUT-R on road bikes, I see them as similar but different. Meaning in general I’d use a K-Edge over the NUT-R because I think it’s more versatile for day to day filming (plus mounting a Garmin to it). And I think that while the NUT-R view point is cool, I’m not sure it’s what I’d want every day.
As far as PowerPod vs Barfly mounts on tri bikes, we’ll see. The PowerPod one is metal and pretty solidly built, so I don’t expect much give/sway there.
Ray, would it be possible to buy the wahoo mount and then the Garmin inserts for swapping?
It was funny, I was thinking the same exact thing this morning when looking around at their site. I’d agree, I’d think it be best to buy the Wahoo mount, and then pickup the free Garmin insert while you’re at it… I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work.
I was about to purchase just the insert a few weeks ago but decided to wait since I didn’t have the Elemnt yet anyways. Went back and it was gone so I emailed them to ask about if it was out of stock or what. No response.
Good way to get customers to goto BarFly I guess.
I also have emailed them several times regarding this with no response. Way back in November they replied to me and told me inserts would be available. I’m a long time K-Edge customer, but this is really pissing me off.
WTF, yeah, that’s dumb logic. Glad I ordered two inserts, I guess.
I have a Polar M450 and it has been hard to find any mounts such as these. Any suggestions?
Bar Fly’s combo variant should work: link to barflybike.com
Thanks Ray. Love the website and the podcast!
Update, K-edge changed their mind and are selling the inserts for $8 now: link to smile.amazon.com
Also available direct from K-Edge’s website (USA).

It’s worth having a couple of these spare as they’re designed to break in event of a heavy impact. Thankfully they are now available to purchase separately but are still difficult to source in Europe.
