A Triathlon Weekend Giveaway: Garmin FR910XT

For many triathletes, this weekend holds almost as much spectacle as the Olympic Triathlon races held just two short months ago in London.  The Kona based Ironman World Championships is watched by not only by those in the sport, but also of course the handful of folks who stumble onto the recorded version in December on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

As such, it’s only appropriate to give something away to mark the festivus that the weekend ahead of us is.  Plus, it’s been too long since the last giveaway (as epic as it was!).  It makes sense to giveaway away a triathlon product – hence, I’m going with the Garmin FR910XT.  The FR910XT covers you across all triathlon sports segments from pool toys to tricycles to one-legged races.

The best thing though is you’ve got nothing more to do than leave a single comment below (multiple comments don’t count around these parts!).

As far as entry goes, we’ll keep it easy this time.  All you need to do is enter in your favorite Kona-related memory (be it watching the race, participating in it, a TV segment, or even just a random beach related thing in Kona).  Failing any Kona related memories, just give me something Hawaii related.  Anything at all really (mmm…chocolate covered macadamia nuts…).  I’m not picky.

The entry period will run until Saturday, October 13th, 2012 at 11:59PM Hawaii Time (official end of the race), at which point I’ll close the entry period and randomly select a winner. Like the all my giveaways there are no restrictions on where the goods go to – so no matter where in the world you are, I’ll send it to ya. The winner will get a brand new Garmin Forerunner FR910XT (with HR strap) – shipped anywhere in the world.

This giveaway is sponsored by Clever Training, which I recently announced a partnership with.  As you probably remember, by picking up sports technology gadgets from Clever Training you support the site.  And on top of that, all DC Rainmaker readers get an exclusive 10% off all products they sell (basically every sports tech company) using coupon code DCR10BTF (along with the link above).

(Note: If you’re deployed US Active Duty military and are unable to complete the entry method above, simply shoot me an e-mail and I’ll get ya entered in. For those curious on how the giveaways work, here’s the deets.)

  7. My cousin and I rented bikes and a rack, drove to the top of Haleakela (on Maui), and descended for 90 minutes to Pa’ia, where we stopped at Charley’s and ate a single, enormous pancake. (My cousin misheard the instructions and got a short stack, which is like a foot in diameter and over 2 inches thick.) My friend from Hawai’i drove shuttle (I might say, “Hah!” when I think about it, but driving shuttle is a holy, sacred thing. (stiffles laughter). No seriously. I’m gonna pay for this bad karma.)

  21. Doing my first triathlon next weekend, so this watch will be perfect.

  22. The first time I watched The Ironman race 2009 in Kona from Youtube. It got me inspired to start swimming. I never thought about swimming, cause I’m pretty weak with water (I get cold easily). I’ve been cycling and running for most of the time. But the swimming part from the Ironman just got stuck in my head until it reach the point where I just need to try. It’s true after the first swimming, I was sneezing like crazy, ignoring the discomfort from my nose. I swam again the next day. Now I spend most of my afternoon swimming, trying to get the correct move and figuring out how I can join the Ironman race in Kona.

  37. Where I stayed in 2000 [Pateys Place] an old English competitor had to jump through hoops to compete cause on his medical history, being honest, he put his Cancer, he had to get 3 doctors appraisals to race, I was so lucky to see him finish after I did, his sense of relief and satisfaction is etched on my mind

  38. Never been to hawaii. I like pineapples and kona coffee, though.

    I also like garmin watches.

This Aug was my first trip to Hawaii – 2 days on business. I can’t wait to get back. Kona would be a dream; but Hawaii 70.3 looks like a good excuse.

  53. Lee

NBC’s coverage highlighting double amputee Scott Rigsby and his journey through the finish. Or 81 yr old Lou Hollander competing in his 22 Ironman. Those are etched in my mind when I want ti skip a workout.

    Swimming!

  61. Thanks for the giveaway Ray! I was away from the internet when you did your previous “Giveaway Extravaganza”, so I’m glad to get a chance in this contest (although a very small chance).

I have been wanting to do a big race, perhaps a duathlon (I don’t really like swimming that much). I haven’t been to Hawaii and don’t really watch many races, so I’m afraid I can’t really answer the questions you asked.

If I do win, I live in the US, not in France so make sure to ship the right power adapter. Hope you are having a good time in your new place.

  62. Chrissies smile from her first win, and every single mile since!

  64. Kona… it is in my head, when the training becomes really hard, when I’m about to quit… then I think of it. It’s my Mount Everest, the top of the world!

Lieto almost getting his KONA victory.

  85. My first Kona memory was roughly 5 hours ago when my son in law said he wanted all of us to come along when he raced Kona. I said, “What’s that?” Then I visited your blog and saw this. Coincidence? I think not! I am not a triathlete like my SIL, but I am a runner, and I would love a new Garmin!

  86. Live broadcast on ironman.com
