DC Rainmaker

Something look funny? Read this newsletter online!

Hey Y’all,

Guess what country we are in now? This is The Girl, writing to you for another edition of the DC Rainmaker weekly newsletter. This week’s edition is coming to you from, you guessed it, America! But I’ll get to that later on in the newsletter!

Like every newsletter, the first half of the words cover all the sports tech stuffs Ray has published over the last week. Followed by the “In Depth Thoughts of The Girl”, where I’ll fill you in on what we are up to these days.

If you are a new to the DCR newsletter, you can catch up with the newsletter archives here

Onwards!

Most recently published to the blog, and again holding up my newsletter printing presses, is the latest and greatest device from the Garmin, the Vivoactive 3 Music. Or as Ray would say “Garmin Vivoactive 3 Everything You Need to Know”. Not quite an In-Depth Review, but more than a Hands-on Look.

Next, was a post strictly for the occasion of Ray getting to use the term “Timbits” again. I swear he’s sending subliminal messages that he wants to move to Canada for unlimited access to doughnut holes. A “Tech Tidbit” of sorts, filling you in on the new color options released by Wahoo. Red and Yellow for the win on the Element Bolt.

Followed by the household favorite, 5 Random Things. That should give you a little insight on what we are doing here in America… and maybe why we are a little sleep deprived!

Annnnd finally, the famed Week In Review. The post that Ray posts to keep him out of the dog house with me. Casually posting all the randomness of interesting tech and sports stuff he found around the web last week… and calls it work.

Now, if you appreciate the art of film over literature, pop over to Ray’s You Tube Channel.

That’s all for the round up of the life and times of DC Rainmaker for the last week. Now if you so dare, pop down to the below the fold for the continued banter of what we are up to in the Maker household.

In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl

Somehow this edition of the newsletter has taken a solid three days to compile? Seriously. I don’t know what happened.

Well, I guess that’s not entirely true. In fact, I do know how that happened. We took a flight across the Atlantic with 2 kiddos under the age of 2. The flights were actually quite pleasant and successful in terms of not having any toddler meltdowns post take-off. Pre take-off is another story! However, since the eldest Peanut decided napping was for the birds, and by the time we arrived to Grandma’s house she had been awake for over 24 hours. Thus she promptly went to sleep upon arrival and woke up at 2AM EST thinking it was 8AM and time to go to daycare. Resulting in the next 3-4 days being a slow creep towards getting both kids back on sleep schedules. I was a well caffeinated walking zombie for a while there.

Walking zombie or not, last week I challenged myself to get back on the wagon of exercising again. I have hopped on and off this wagon a few times since the New Year. There are many reasons and excuses for such interruptions, but I think this time I’m back for the long haul. Since the last time you have heard from me, I’ve managed 3 runs (cough… jogs. Pronounced Yooooggs), and I’m super proud of these running attempts. I’ve put my body through the ringer over the last 10 years, plus two young kiddos, so I’m trying to be gentle on myself. It took me a solid 4 years of deteriorating fitness efforts to land here, so there is a reality that I won’t be out running Ray (yet).

The next challenge I’m going to deploy is getting back on the strength and core re-engagement wagon. Realistically, running and strength training should be a mutual relationship. But its super easy to let strength and core slide and just value “getting in the miles”. I know this, as it is ultimately the reason I landed in this sad state. BUT, let’s not get too excited. One step at a time. Figure out the new balance of work, life, fitness AND family! And, how do I rope Ray into this challenge too.

That’s enough jabber from me. Thank you to all the encouraging emails I received last week! I love hearing your fitness success stories too! They help re-motivate me as well. Until next week,

~The Girl.
