DC Rainmaker

Something look funny? Read this newsletter online!

Hey there, Tuesday!

I know, I know, it’s been a while! The summer was hectic, and wonderful, and heartwarming… and hectic. Did I mention hectic? Honestly, we are now staring down the barrel of October, and it got me thinking. Maybe my newsletter peeps would still remember me if I started back up on a regular schedule?

If you’re new to this newsletter feed, welcome! And I do apologize for the long absenteeism. I can’t promise it won’t happen again, but Ray and I have been nailing down pretty solid work schedules as of late and here’s to hoping we can stick to them. It’s not like the past 18 months have been disruptive or anything! Anyways, you can always check out the Newsletter Archives and catch up on what was happening in the past! ALSO, there are two little nuggets dropped in the archives you might not have noticed before!

That’s right, there are two full episodes of the Quarantine Corner linked in the newsletter archives that we opened up for public consumption! If you follow Ray on Instagram, then you have most likely seen teaser previews in the past, but there are two FULL episodes posted. As well, over the winter (man it has reaaaaally been a long time since the last newsletter) I edited together a small preview video, introducing WHAT the QC actually is! So if you’re reading right now, wondering where I’ve lost you on this “Quarantine Corner” thing, that should help clear things up. Long story short, when the world first came to a grinding halt in March 2020, I suggested to Ray that we do something more light-hearted for the DC Rainmaker Supporters. These regular video posts focusing on behind the scenes of the business, personal product opinions, and stories of family life became something we looked forward to during periods of lock-down, and now it’s a video series we fully intend to keep up. We hope you enjoy them as well, and maybe consider becoming a DCR Supporter.

For my long-time readers. I really have missed you and our email exchanges. Thanks for sticking with me and patiently waiting for the next newsletter. As always, I’ll give you the latest update of what’s been happening below the fold in the In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl section.

The Website

I certainly will not recap everything since the last newsletter, that would just be silly. Instead, here are the latest hot topics Ray has post onto the world wide web!

The hottest topic right now is the GoPro Hero 10 Black In-Depth Review. The funny thing is, I never really took much interest in the GoPro cameras. I knew they were great and all, but usually Ray always has one on him, and I was told what to do! BUT last week, he made me edit the GoPro Hero 10 Beginners Guide video, and now I’m feeling pretty confident with using a GoPro… who’d have thunk it!

Of course, I would be amiss to not mention the latest Apple Watch announcement. We are all waiting not so patiently to get our hands on a unit, hopefully sometime later this fall. Until then, here’s the latest post of Ray’s recap, Apple Watch 7 Launched: Complete New Features & Tech Details.

And if you're wondering about the Fitbit Charge 5 review, that's hit a strong snag over the last few days requiring some late-night conference calls with people 9 timezones away. But one way or another it's going out by the end of the week.

And last but not least, Ray has revived the 5 Random Things posts. This week features the dynamics of bringing 3 kids to the biggest bike shop we’ve ever been in. Inclusive osaid store having an indoor test track, and how one of our Peanuts incidentally rearranged some of the shelving units after “forgetting” to steer the bike… oh boy.

Oh and wow, now last LAST but not least, Ray just posted a couple hours ago about Wahoo’s new “sorta” Rollers. They non-announced announced the product over the past three days at the UCI World Road Championships. The head-scratcher is, however, Wahoo put this product out there in the warm-up area for every athlete to ride on… and never said a word about it? Huh?? So there are very few details about the product, but Ray managed to get permission from another photographer at the event to let Ray use the photos on the website to help break it down for everyone on what we are seeing as a first look at this product. I know, I know… it’s all a little strange! Either check out the post or watch the video. Your call!

That’s it for this week, keep reading for the YouTubes and In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl.

YouTube

The YouTube channel is still doing its thing. Sometimes a video just happens to be the more effective way to get the info out there. This past few weeks especially, there have been so many new videos up. Take a look below and see if something strikes your fancy.

Also, a PSA here. If you hit the like button on a YouTube video or subscribe to a YouTube creator’s channel, that’s a really great way to support people who are putting out content. More importantly, if you subscribe, and I disappear again for another 4 months, you’ll still be kept well informed of new videos being published!

In-Depth Thoughts from The Girl

Hey Hey Hey,

Thanks so much for making down here to my tiny slice of this world. You guys know the drill by now. Work and Work-Life balance went off the tracks and the Newsletter got the bump! Sorry!

So what’s new? Well, life is just as busy as usual. Ray is just back from an 11 Day European RV Extravaganza with Des from DesFit. The boys took the alps by storm, doing all the things from hiking, cycling, mountain biking, and even some daredevil stunts involving jumping off the side of the mountains. I think in total they hit up a total of 6 countries to stretch their legs, collect data, and post Instagram stories. Of course, the main anchor of the trip was attending Eurobike in Germany, but who could resist the rest!

As for me, I was able to visit my family in Newfoundland over the summer. After a very very long wait for Newfoundland to open their borders again, I finally touched down on The Rock, and instantly my heart was put back together again. If you’re unfamiliar with this epic island, that’s a shame, but you’re likely unaware that even during times over the past 18 months when the borders to Canada were open, you still couldn’t get onto the Island of Newfoundland. Which don’t get me wrong, I totally understand why the province had created these restrictions during Covid times, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t hard. I’ve lived off-island for 19 years now, and that was the first time I’ve ever missed going home for a visit in a calendar year. But that’s it right? We are all going to have our stories for years to come on personal pandemic heartbreaks, and I’m fully aware that we got off easy compared to others. I was just so happy to get home and see my parents and longtime best friend!

Anyways, Newfoundland was full of fun experiences for the adults and the littles. Ray and I got to get back out there for some trail running, as well as late-night beers by the backyard fire. And the kiddos got to run like crazy through the “Fairy Forest” (created by Gran and Grampie), pick their own veggies for dinner, roasting marshmallows, and even go on their first fishing trip with Grampie.

And lastly, workouts have been on point for most of the summer. I’m working with a new Coach, focusing on cranking out a new PR for the 10km distance. I’m having so much fun focusing on speed and power. I’ve dragged Ray out to the track more than a few times this summer (mostly in retaliation for him making me open water swim again, haha). So I hope to keep you posted on that progress as we head into the Fall. Who knows, maybe we will create some online fun run for a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, or a Santa Run to have an excuse to get a handful of local runners together since there likely won’t be a DCR Open House again this year :(

If any locals know of a good 10km race in November – December this year, I’d love to hear from you! I won’t even tell you the last time I toed the line of a race start.

Anyways, I do hope to drop another newsletter again next week. As always, thanks so much for following along!
