Hi there!
And happy palindrome day to you all. Well, I guess if you live in North America anyways. Today’s date is written like 9-19-19! This...this my newsletter peeps, is the type of thing that I find entertaining!
Now that you know a little something extra about me, let’s find out a little extra something extra about Ray? Haha, just kidding. But let’s find out what he’s been up to anyways!
After last week’s newsletter of endless posts, things have cooled down just a little bit! What’s nice about this down shift, is we get our weekly editions of “Week in Review” and “5 Random Things” posts back! Yeayyyy! This past week rounded up some pretty interesting articles from around the sports web, so you should take a poke. Otherwise, if you’re more interested in what the Maker Fam was up to, Ray was on solo dad duty for much of the weekend. I think him and the girls had a little bit of fun!
On the more tech focused side of things. Elite released a really pretty looking toaster with wooden details. Just kidding, Elite’s new Tuo smart trainer has been released and Ray gives you his first look impressions on the new piece. Personally, I wouldn’t mind having a crack at this trainer. The reality for me is, if I’m trying to get training done both indoors and outdoors, and I don’t have two bikes (as in one who permanently lives on a direct drive trainer), then I would certainly be cheering for the betterment of wheel-on smart trainers. That’s just my two cents. Am I wildly impressed by the evolution of direct drive trainers over the last few years? YES! But, I usually make Ray get everything sorted for me before a workout… or I just default to my running shoes and hit the trails. So good luck to Elite on this one, I hope Ray’s In-Depth Review eventually proves to be a positive one!
Next up is the Tacx Neo Bike Smart In-Depth Review. So, I guess my comments on the Elite Tuo Smart Trainer could be seen as a bit of a Segway into this smart bike. Maybe having a permanent set up like this in the training cave would ease my pre-workout anxieties about getting everything set up and paired correctly? With an onslaught of ‘smart bikes” hitting the market this year, it is going to be really interesting to have all the smart bikes reviewed and side by side comparisons drawn. I believe which is something Ray is hoping to have done ASAP.
And now, last but not least, Ray kept us up to speed about the latest from Rouvy. The company has rolled out free Apple TV and Mac support during their public beta testing. By the looks of the comments on this post, it seems to be something people are pretty stoked about, so I’d say “woot woot”.
…. Ah! Ray just snuck this one in on me! Last “last but not least” is Wahoo Releases TrainerRoad Integration… and something about a chicken? No for real, I think Ray had too much fun with this one, so you have to go see it to believe it. Bawk!
With that we are fully up to speed on the wild and wonderful world of sports technology! Woot! If you’re just not that into reading anymore, let us take a moment to go see where else Ray has recently spread technology cheer around the internets. Starting with the candid conversations between him and our good friend from the Southern Hemisphere, GPLAMA.
The FIT File with DC Rainmaker and GPLAMA:
The FIT File podcast with Ray and Shane continues. And now with all the new updates and new devices supporting music connectivity, you can even listen to these two get on about the lastest tech gossip on your next ride or run! Pick your fancy of streaming platforms and have a listen for yourself via iTunes, Google Play, or Spotify. As always, don’t forget to hit those subscribe buttons for updates… and to make Ray and Shane feel warm and fuzzy inside.
YouTube
At the moment there are no new YouTube videos since last week. But don’t fret there are so so many in the queue (and, by time you read this a new one shoudl be uploaded, YouTube speeds permitting)! So if you want to be the first to get the news of a brand new video, be sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel for the most up to date notifications of new videos!
Until then, I will link you to a super cool Outside Magazine article highlighting a crowdsourced documentary on the growing cargo bike culture. A fellow newsletter reader sent this link my way - thanks Kevin! You can read the article or just check out the documentary’s home page itself; Motherload. Poke and see if there is a local screening of the documentary near you, or you can send me a note if you’re anywhere within reasonable traveling distance and might be interested in coming if we hosted a DCR Screening this fall!?!? Maybe we could even splurge and get popcorn and cupcakes involved too? Hmmmmmm, ideas ideas!
