Hands-on: The COROS Omni Smart Helmet

www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/12/hands-on-the-coros-omni-smart-helmet.html

With more and more companies starting to adopt that (Cycliq, Bontrager, See.Sense, and of course Garmin), it would have sorta been the most brilliant thing to just have the lights connected to the bike computer and turn on automatically (without you having to press the button on the back).

Tip of the day: How I manage 15+ Heart Rate Straps

www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/07/tip-of-day-how-i-manage-15-heart-rate.html

For example, if I’m using a cell phone to track heart rate, I may use the Zephyer Bluetooth Strap for some apps, but the Polar Nike+ strap for others, or one of the Garmin ANT+ ones as well.

My 2012 ANT+ Symposium Presentation

www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/10/my-2012-ant-symposium-presentation.html

In presenting here I’m able to address the vast majority of the sports technology industry, from the big player names you hear daily (Garmin, Timex, etc..) to the companies that design the components they use (Texas Instruments, Nordic Semiconductor), to all the smaller companies that support and compete with those devices (Wahoo, Clothing+, Alphamantis, 4iiii’s, and many more you’ve never heard of).

Wahoo Fitness to Shut Down RGT Virtual Cycling App

www.dcrainmaker.com/2023/10/wahoo-fitness-to-shut-down-rgt-virtual-cycling-app.html

Not because of something Neal’s team did (or didn’t do), but rather, because Wahoo’s product offerings aren’t heavily tied to physiological metrics like we’d see from Garmin’s (via FirstBeat) or Polar.

A look at aerotesting with ERO Sports and the Alphamantis System

www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/aerotesting-alphamantis-system.html

Even more interesting is that my Garmin head unit thought the world was perfectly fine as far as readings go.

A Few Days in New York City

www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/12/days-york-city.html

For those curious, I was running with a suite of devices – but mostly looking at comparing the optical HR accuracy of the Garmin Vivosmart HR, and the Microsoft Band (2).

The DCR’s on Vacation Fenix3 Giveaway!

www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/04/vacation-fenix3-giveaway.html

This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training.

Kinetic 2009 Sprint Tri Race Report

www.dcrainmaker.com/2009/05/kinetic-2009-sprint-tri-race-report.html

You can do this with any of the Garmin’s, though I only do it for the bike leg, as it’s too annoying to others on the run leg (since you’re often running with the same people for miles).

PowerPod rolls out ANT+/Bluetooth Smart version, improved road surface algorithms

www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/09/powerpod-antbluetooth-algorithms.html

Having a spec for this would make it easier for 3rd party companies (Garmin, Wahoo, and now Stages) to implement live CDA data fields into their head units.

Week in Review–May 19th, 2013

The 4th Annual DCR Open House– 2017 Recap and Photos!

www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/12/annual-house-photos.html

In any event, back upstairs it was time to do some giveaways! Clever Training sent over a pile of goods, including two Garmin Forerunner 35 GPS watches, as well as a bunch of goodie packages.

Trust the Fork

www.dcrainmaker.com/2008/04/trust-fork.html

Perhaps I should look at getting one of those Garmin Edge cycling computers that actually TELLS you were you’re going.

The New York Triathlon 2010 Race Report

www.dcrainmaker.com/2010/07/new-york-triathlon-2010-race-report.html

I kept the pace constant on my Garmin, and then once I hit the last mile, I kicked it up a notch.

Suunto Releases 14 New SuuntoPlus Watch Apps

www.dcrainmaker.com/2023/09/suunto-releases-suuntoplus-apps.html

I’d still like to see a number of these become stock data pages so they don’t count against the limit (or, just raise the 2-app limit, in the same way Garmin’s Connect IQ limit of two apps on wearables is silly).

The Because It’s Friday $500 Sports Gadget Giveaway!

www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/06/because-friday-sports-giveaway.html

If you win, you can use that credit for anything from the GoPro Hero 7 Black (which is actually $70 off through Sunday, the lowest we’ve seen it), to the just shipping new Stages Dash units, to a random pair of socks, the Garmin Forerunner 945, or heck, even towards a new power meter.

The DCR Podcast Pilot Episode is Now Available!

www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/04/podcast-episode-available.html

Well, we’ll start with a few thoughts on the Apple Watch and then we’ll dive into KICKR vs CompuTrainer, whether or not Garmin will add a features to older products (and structured swim workouts?), and whether or not someone should ditch their ultra running partner.

Aloha – from the Hawaiian islands!

www.dcrainmaker.com/2009/05/aloha-from-hawaiian-islands.html

Aside from lots of work stuff, I also knocked out a ton of drafts for really solid upcoming posts (all done, yah!) – including: How to race with your Garmin Forerunner/Edge My rant on Sports Photography Long ride hydration …and a whole bunch of other interesting, random or entertaining posts to be sprinkled about the next few weeks.

5 Random Things I Did This Weekend

www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/11/5-random-things-i-did-this-weekend-34.html

That said, the software platform on the Nike variant is definitely very focused for running (which is great), but I think companies like Garmin, Polar, and others can certainly learn a bit from what Nike/Apple has done here in terms of encouraging people (via prompts) to get out and run each day (vs just standing up).
