Now, if you record your sensor data (like heart rate or cadence) on a Garmin or Wahoo or some other device – this won’t actually impact you.

And if you don’t, you can go grab/steal/borrow a GPS/GPX file from any number of online sources such as MapMyRide.com/Garmin Connect and others.

Week in Review–December 29th, 2012

Note that the bra seen below should actually work with not only the Polar stuff, but the Garmin stuff as well (you just swap out the transmitter pod).

Sound good? Oh – and if you want to get a head start on things, this page is a great resource for watching Garmin firmware updates.

Riding into a fashion shoot

www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/10/riding-into-fashion-shoot.html

Lachlan Morton’s Tour de France Alt Tour: How the Tracking Device & Site Works

www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/06/lachlan-mortons-tracking.html

The device is primarily on LTE-M (just like Garmin’s new Forerunner 945 LTE GPS watch), but can fall back to 2G if required.

5 Random Things I Did This Weekend

There was also the new Garmin Forerunner 25 in there, as well as the Fly12.

My 2010 Athletic GPS Device Recommendations

www.dcrainmaker.com/2010/08/my-2010-athletic-gps-device.html

For the triathlete there’s basically three options in the market today: The Garmin Forerunner 310XT, Forerunner 305, and the Timex Global Trainer (TGT).

A Norwegian Runaround

www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/09/a-norwegian-runaround.html

I was wearing both the Garmin Fenix and Polar RC3.

One

For example, my review of the Garmin 305 still accounts for 30% of my daily hits on this blog, almost a year later.

Tip of the day: Avoid Doing The GPS Dance

www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/04/tip-of-day-avoid-doing-gps-dance.html

The challenge is that if I were to wait to turn on my Garmin GPS watch after I was finished with my bike, I’d be waiting around outside as it searches for satellites.

Finally…a weekend at home: Pumpkins and Training

www.dcrainmaker.com/2010/10/finallya-weekend-at-home-pumpkins-and.html

As for those product photos, I was busy working on a post on the new Garmin Chirp in Endurance Sports, which will be published Tuesday.

Week in Review–February 11th, 2012

Most times these different streams don’t overlap, so be on the lookout at all these places for good stuff! So with that, let’s get into the action! DCRainmaker.com posts this past week: Here’s all the goodness that ended up on the main page of DCRainmaker.com this week: Sunday: Week in Review–February 5th, 2012 Monday: A weekend of new gadgets- Polar Power Pedals, heart rate strap integrated clothing, and more! Tuesday: A much better USB ANT+ stick for your Garmin Forerunner…by Suunto Thursday: Hanging out in a Greek Olympic Stadium (a really old one) Friday: Friday Tidbits of Note Stuff that I found interesting around the interwebs: Here’s a not-so-small smattering of all the random things that I stumbled on while doing my civic duty to find the end of the Internet: 1) The Man Who Lived on His Bike: A great short video on what it would be like to live on your bike – 24x7.

Friday: A week of relaxing (and product reviewing) in Florida Sunday: Tour De France 2012 – Day 1/Prologue Stuff that I found interesting around the interwebs: Here’s a not-so-small smattering of all the random things that I stumbled on while doing my civic duty to find the end of the Internet: 1) Behind the scenes of the Olympic Trials finish cameras: A cool interview with the head guy behind the fancy camera that figures out who won, and in last week’s case, a bullet point break down of how that specific race was done.

5 Random Things From The Past Week

www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/04/random-things-week.html

The unit features dual ANT+/BLE connectivity, but also does a form of running dynamics like the Garmin HRM-RUN with the Garmin FR620 & Fenix2.

Do you use an app with live tracking in it? Tell me about it!

www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/01/do-you-use-an-app-with-live-tracking-in-it-tell-me-about-it.html

I quite often use the Garmin Fit app which has live tracking of both position, as well as ANT+ sensor data – including Power, Heart Rate, Speed and Cadence.

First Look: Zwift rolls out iOS version of platform

www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/08/zwift-ios-version.html

Even if you use a Garmin head unit, this allows you to also use Zwift on iOS (whereas with a Garmin HR strap you’d be out of luck).

Pioneer Exits Power Meter Business as Shimano Buys Their Cycling Business

www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/02/pioneer-business-shimano.html

Thus it’s plausible that with enough engineering, a Shimano driven V2 of the CA600 could offer a real alternative to Garmin, Wahoo, and other bike computers.

A Kananaskis Mountain Bikearound

www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/09/a-kananaskis-mountain-bikearound.html

So in my case, I have the ANT+ edition which is broadcasting ANT+ to the Garmin Fenix watch.

COROS Expands Targeted Recall of APEX GPS Watches: An Explainer

www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/10/expands-targeted-explainer.html

Cycliq Fly6 In-Depth Review

www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/10/cycliq-fly6-review.html

It’s a bit of a circuitous route to get data onto the camera (versus something like the Garmin VIRB X/XE that just directly connects to the sensors).

5 Random Things I Did This Weekend in Rome

www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/02/random-things-weekend-rome.html

Now as nice as it is to be wandering around Europe for a few weeks, the interwebs must still go on! So I took the majority of one of the days to knock out a bunch of posts, including both the Apple Review & Garmin Fenix3 HR review.

Hands on with the Shimano’s Di2 ANT+ SCIO shifting bike computer

www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/09/shimano-shifting-computer.html

Why on earth use private-ANT for this and then pump it to a useless less-refined device? Instead of going with ANT+ and allowing this data to be consumed by devices such as a Garmin Edge computer or similar, they went with a private implementation that leaves no data on the table for anyone to record.
