Week in Review–September 12th, 2021

www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/09/week-review-september.html

Sound good? Oh – and if you want to get a head start on things, this page is a great resource for watching Garmin, Wahoo, Polar, and a few other firmware updates.

COROS APEX 2 and APEX 2 Pro In-Depth Review

www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/11/coros-apex-depth-review.html

This obviously sucks for smaller companies like COROS, Polar, Suunto, Wahoo, and others.

Tech Tidbits: Garmin GPS Offsets Again and PowerTap Units Discontinued

www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/02/tidbits-powertap-discontinued.html

The problem ended up being a bad satellite cache file from Sony, which was then propagated down to GPS watches from Garmin, Suunto, Polar, Wahoo, and others.

Hands-on: Specialized ANGi Helmet Crash Sensor

www.dcrainmaker.com/2018/11/specialized-helmet-sensor.html

While great for recreational riders, many more experienced riders are going to ride with dedicated bike computers (Garmin/Wahoo/Lezyne/etc…).

How to Load Zwift or TrainerRoad on a Peloton Bike: A Geek’s Guide

www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/06/zwift-trainerroad-peloton.html

Most support data, but if you’re unsure and have a Garmin/Wahoo/etc lying around, plug it into your computer and ensure that you can see the Garmin/Wahoo/whatever in your computer.

Updates on Garmin Vector and new Garmin GPS watch

www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/07/updates-on-garmin-vector-and-new-garmin.html

ANT+ Wireless Downloads for Edge series: You may remember back a couple months ago when I showed off how you can use the Wahoo Fitness iPhone/iPad/iPod dongle to wirelessly download your workout from the Garmin FR310XT/FR610/FR405/FR410 watches straight to the internet (Garmin Connect, Training Peaks, e-mail, etc…) - all without a computer involved.

Week in Review–May 30th, 2016

www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/05/week-reviewmay-30th.html

Wahoo ELEMNT: This was technically the ELEMNT iOS app, but some bug fixes there to resolve ELEMNT issues.

BKOOL: Their new trainer, new training platform, and a few other updates

www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/08/training-platform-updates.html

Note that the BKOOL app does work today already with the Wahoo KICKR trainer, as part of a collaboration they did with Wahoo Fitness.

CES 2012 Garmin updates for Vector, FR910XT and more

www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/01/ces-2012-garmin-updates-for-vector.html

Edge ANT+ Workout Synchronization: I was curious to see if any progress might have been made towards adding ANT+ workout synchronization to the Edge 500/800, allowing you to wirelessly download your activities (completed workouts) via phone and/or computer, similar to what you can do today with the much of the Forerunner series and the Wahoo Fitness dongle.

Fitbit Ionic GPS Smartwatch In-Depth Review

www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/09/fitbit-smartwatch-review.html

Typically I’d wear a chest strap (usually the HRM-TRI or Wahoo TICKR X), as well as another optical HR sensor watch on the other wrist (many models during this testing period).

Garmin Forerunner 745 In-Depth Review

www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/09/garmin-forerunner-745-depth-review.html

Typically I’d wear a chest strap (usually the Garmin HRM-DUAL or Wahoo TICKR X 2020) – though in this review timespan also the HRM-PRO too, as well as another optical HR sensor watch on the other wrist.

Polar Vantage V2 In-Depth Review

www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/10/polar-vantage-depth-review.html

A Tacx NEO 2 was fiddly, and it wouldn't find a Wahoo KICKR 2018.

Tacx shows off new suite of trainers, new accessories, updates on software apps

www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/08/trainers-accessories-software.html

Further, I think the lower-priced Vortex Smart is also at a very appealing price point, significantly differentiated from the ~$1,000-$1,100 level that I feel the Bushido gets grouped into with the CycleOps PowerBeam Pro and Wahoo KICKR, both of which are a bit more beefy trainers.

StageONE $699 ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart crank-based power meter announced

www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/09/stageone-699-ant-bluetooth-smart-crank.html

The Stages Cycling team worked with Wahoo Fitness on the Bluetooth Smart components, to ensure that they appear identically to that these components report and display power in the same way as the Wahoo Fitness KICKR trainer, as well as the Kurt Kinetic inRIDE trainer accessory.

A quick update on Polar’s planned software updates

www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/02/planned-software-updates.html

Polar has gone back and started working with each company individually on it (for example, Wahoo on the Wahoo KICKR).

Garmin Varia RCT715 Camera + Radar In-Depth Review

www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/05/garmin-rearview-bikelight.html

Now all of this radar stuff is available on 3rd party units too like Wahoo/Hammerhead/Stages/etc.

5 Random Things I Did This Weekend

www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/05/random-things-did-this-weekend-3.html

Next, I also unpacked the upcoming Wahoo RPM cadence pod that does dual ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart concurrently.

Stages Power Meter In-Depth Review Update

www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/06/stages-review-update.html

The setup for this was relatively simple: I had an Edge 800 recording the Stages ANT+ power stream, and then I had an iPhone 4s with the Wahoo Fitness App recording the Bluetooth Smart stream.

Peloton Bike+ (Plus) In-Depth Review

www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/02/peloton-bike-depth-review.html

But I can just as easily pair a Polar heart rate strap or a Wahoo one.
