Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!

Even if things aren’t going well, it’s a pleasure to read your blog.
Take care !
Wow that whole thing bites!!!! So glad that nothing is broken and hope the healing process is fast!
Great to hear that there are no serious injuries. An accident report for 75 cents? You got off easy, they usually cost $20. Take it slow!
Glad to hear everything is ok. What worries me is you were not the only person hit on the bike course. I sure hope that is one thing they really fix up. Especially since I hear it is an awesome event otherwise
Sounds like you are on the up-and-up after you incident. Get well soon!
Bad news = busted bike, good news is insurance companies can’t depreciate bike equipment just because it’s been used so you should be able to get retail price for the busted stuff and be back up and running sooner than later!
so glad to hear there are no broken bones and for the most part you are doing okay. i was chuckling about the $0.75 you had to mail. can you mail change? hope you get a new and improved bike/helmet soon.
You have to love the bureaucracy.
Oh man Ray! I am so glad you are okay with no broken bones. That is weird about the $.75. In MN, you get a copy for free if you’re in the accident-otherwise it’s five bucks. Which is even more weird. I suppose they figure giving you a free copy is the least they can do! Ha! Glad to hear you’re okay!
Here’s hoping this doesn’t turn into an insurance nightmare for you!
The pennies thing would have been too funny, but so aggravating to go through all of that! hope the rest of whatever you need to go through doesn’t end up the same way!! Continue recovering :)
Thank goodness for no broken bones! Glad to hear it’s something that will heal up with rest.
I thought the bike course was really fun too :-)
Sheesh, it’s 2010 Knoxville that 75 cent through the mail thing is RIDICULOUS!
Really glad to hear you came away from the crash with only a broken bike and a sprained knee Ray. It still boggles my mind that they would have an open bike course with crossing traffic like you encountered in a triathlon though.
I really have enjoyed reading your blog. Perhaps you should have sent 2 quarters and 3 dimes and let them give you change back.
The 0.75 cents thing is crazy. Let’s hope you don’t encounter too many other SLOW systems to get you back on your bike and training again.
Read the RR the other day and have been digesting it, especially as I’m sprinting to beat the traffic on the cross street.
I’m glad that you’re on the mend. The bike will be replaced and I have no doubt you’ll be back at it soon.
It will take the insurance company a while to pay for anything related to medical because you are going through their Bodily Injury insurance coverage. As they probably told you it is a full and final settlement process so you won’t settle things until your treatment is complete.
With a Knee injury and likely no priors the case should be pretty straight forward. They put your medical bills into a computer program as well as your age and get a range for a settlement.
They should pay for your bike through the PD portion right away and then settle with medical and pain and suffering down the road.
Wow, glad to hear nothing is broken. Hope you are able to heal up quickly! And crazy about the insurance and needing 75 cents for the report. I can’t believe he STILL hasn’t talked to his insurance company! Oh boy, I think he’s going to get into trouble…
Man, I am glad to hear you are ok! I have followed your blog for about six months now. I’m a noobie tri-guy, but I am having fun training and following your exploits. So, take your time and heal fully! While you are recuperating… I do have a question. I signed up for a 2.4 mile swim with a friend of mine, and I want to carry a camera. The swim is in Charleston,SC in June, so I won’t be wearing a wetsuit. How do you carry a camera when you race, run, swim, ride? Followed by what camera do you find the best for stills and video when racing? Thanks much for all of your posts, photos, reviews, and generally letting all of us into a slice of your life. You are a great resource and inspiration for me as a noob tri-guy. Thanks for everything!
Sorry- I was logged in on my wife’s account!
YAY for no bones being broken!!
And glad to hear that it sounds like you’ll be able to get your bike & helmet costs covered by the other guy’s insurance company. Some good lessons learned for all of us, I think, about carrying some form of ID when racing just in case and not assuming intersections will be monitored and/or cars will stop just because there’s a race going on.
