Have some fun in the travel section.
I travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.
My Photography Gear: The Cameras/Drones/Action Cams I Use Daily
The most common question I receive outside of the “what’s the best GPS watch for me” variant, are photography-esq based. So in efforts to combat the amount of emails I need to sort through on a daily basis, I’ve complied this “My Photography Gear” post for your curious minds (including drones & action cams!)! It’s a nice break from the day-to-day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it!
The Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List
Many readers stumble into my website in search of information on the latest and greatest sports tech products. So here is the most up to date list of products I like and fit the bill for me and my training needs best! DC Rainmaker 2024 swim, bike, run, and general gear list. If that’s the case (but certainly not saying my choices aren’t good for women), and you just want to see a different gear junkies “picks”, check out The Girl’s Gear Guide too.
Probably a powertap hub. Because I don’t need a power meter, but if I could get one for free…
Power meter for me, so I can break thru my current limits?
I’d like to have Fenix3 or other multisport watch (925XT) from Garmin.
I kind of wanted a wahoo ELMNT, but we weren’t able to secure one for preorder :(
Upgrade my gps watch to the Garmin 920xt!
I would use it as a downpayment for a Kickr or the new Tacx
My actual Tacx isn’t up to date any more and with winter still ahead I will have to spend a lot of time on it.
Then some more modern equipment I can use indoor and not disturb the family to much would be great.
So they can enjoy my present as well, something for the whole family.
A 235. Or a fenix. Or both….
Yep, both
Do they see new pair of knees?
I would love to get a new Garmin. My old one is dying a slow death.
Garmin Fenix 3. Looking to replace my now aging Forerunner 610 who’s battery is now tired and barely lasts a short run!
Bluetooth power meter in order to check my watts in my bike sessions.
I would go for a power meter. I do not feel they are worth their price but with $500 off, it’s a done deal.
I have my eye on the Fenix 3. Mainly because it is probably the only fitness watch which I have no issues whatsoever wearing 24/7.
Fenix 3 because it is awesome.
I decided to get the Tacx Vortex Trainer. There is too much fog in these days to go outside
I’d love a power meter for my bike and my nerdy tendencies
Maybe the Varia radar or a power meter.
4iiii Power meter! Thanks Santa Ray
I’d love either a power meter or a fenix 3
Training for my second triathlon is not easy in the place where I live – Shanghai, China… Crazy taxi drivers, inexperienced motorists, reckless truck drivers and, last but not least, pretty bad air quality in winter times tend to keep you inside. A Tacx Vortex would make life of a Shanghainese triathlete a little easier!
I would love to buy the Garmin Forerunner 630, to help kick off a 2016-running season.
Happy new year everyone!
I would probably get an FR235 as I mostly do cycling and running. I prefer the featureset of the 235 to that of my current Vivoactive.
I would get a Fenix 3 to finally replace my FR220
Dear Santa,
i’ve been asking for it so many times now, but my long awaited new Tacx trainer has never come. Well, you know what? Enough with the being good thing! I’m writing to Ray and CT from now on.
I’ would love to get a Tacx Neo, because it’s not too cold to run otuside, but it’s cold enough for me not to enjoy it, so some indoor biking would be fine.
(if this won’t be the winning entry, I know it will be your fault,Santa. You’re so mean, sometimes)
Enjoy your holidays everyone!!
It would have to be a power2max power meter for my ‘good’ bike.
For safety reasons: the Garmin Varia radar, combined with the Garmin VIRB XE.
I want to get a product that hasn’t been released. Don’t know if it even exists. A vivoactive with optical HR monitor.
I’d like to get a Garmin Fenix 3. The reason is simple: I believe this is great multi-sport device in very handy form.
500$ would be a nice discount to consider a power meter. Or is it time to upgrade from Garmin Edge 500?
I’d be keen on a powertap c1 simply because it looks the business
I love to have a fenix 3. But it’s so expensive
Suunto Traverse GPS Outdoor Watch for my first trail marathon next season that I wouldn’t get lost in those woods ;)
Getting a new bike so I would love a new Garmin Edge 520!
Power tap P1, don’t need but would really like.
Merry Christmas all.
Garmin Fenix3, because I’m adding trail running to triathlon in 2016. Thanks, Ray!
A power meter for my bike…haven’t try it yet…
Garmin 920 as I want a cool gadget watch to track all my triathlon training!
I’d love to be able to use the $500 credit for a bike trainer. Don’t own one at the moment. Either that or I’ll get a Garmin Edge 520!
Power meter for me, or a garmin watch
4iiii power meter as it would be fascinating to see the numbers vary and feedback into other aspects of lifestyle and training.
A Fenix 3 for my wife. She’s started hiking distances too long for her FR220 battery life. I might get an orange strap for my Fenix too, they looked pretty cool!
Santa was good to me and got me a polar m400, which I’m thrilled with. Maybe a hrm? Either that or rocket propelled shoes….
GoPro for geting my first action cam to capture my the rides!
I’d go for the FR630 as I get the impression the GPS is more accurate and I find my current watch (Fenix 2) too flattering most of the time (i.e., it overestimates my speed).
A Tacx Neo – to enjoy the silence and not get beaten up by my neighbors..
A Garmin Epix for backpacking in the wilderness, and to serve as a backup to my 520.
And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the DCR crew! :-)
John
A fenix 3 to replace my recently deceased 610 :-(
4iiii power meter to kick off a new year of training ( hopefully) learning to train with power!
I only just bought a Garmin Vivoactive 2 days ago, but if I win this I can upgrade to a Fenix 3!
Probably a zwift compatible cycle trainer, although a new road bike wouldn’t go amiss either!
It would be great to get a Garmin Fenix3 as a daily watch and of cource for sport ;-)
I would put it towards a new indoor trainer. I got knocked off my bike by a car (now have a stainless steel plate and screws in my shoulder) and am on the long and slow path to recovery
Garmin Fenix 3 because it’s just great watch :)
A power meter as I don’t have one yet and this is the missing information
A Garmin 920 or vector would make 2016 great!
Garmin Epix – would like to see for myself how it does in terms of maps & co
Time to get a trainer.
Fenix3! I’m going skiing in februari and i need statistics to satisfy my inner geek!
Too much choice…
Could narrow it down to the 920xt or maybe the 625. Marathon training starting 1st Jan.
I would get the 4iiii precision power meter!
I would get a Tacx Vortex! Winter cycling in Trondheim, Norway, is a bit to cold for my taste..!
So many great products out there it’s difficult to choose just the one as I want them all! However, a power meter would be the most likely though. Good luck everyone!
Garmin Forerunner 235 for the optical sensor and smart notifications.
Garmin FR235 (plus a bunch of socks) – Already got the VA but could do with a running watch that takes custom workouts.
I’ll get some trainer (whichever in this ball park price) cause even if the climate change made us think we are in spring during december I still have to keep my kid by the evening and need to do some training :)
$500 on one product!? Not for a runner… :) I’d probably go for a gopro session, a Garmin footpod, and maybe a first gps running watch for my little girl! :)
Tacx Vortex or some other similar bike trainer for the winter period as it’s getting cold.
I would choose a Fenix 3. Great for the trails, the road on the bike and the swims on the sea!
Noy sure if this is open to the UK, but some money for a kickr would be good!
Power Meter … either the 4iii or as part of the pioneer power meter system!
Garmin 920 XT. I used all majors, Garmin, Polar, Suunto, Garmin is my personal choice. I’d love to upgrade my 610 to a water proof, higher end version to support my 2016 ironman trainings.
I’d get a Forerunner 630, I’m interested in running my dynamics.
A garmin edge 520 because my 500
Is holding together with duck tape :)
Garmin Edge 520 bundle. A wish that but i don’t have enough money now :( I never win anything i hope my luck now :)
I probably would get the garmin forerunner 630 to get all teh new running metrics !
A brand new Fenix 3 to look good on the trails !
I would love to get an Edge 520!
I would love to have silver garmin fenix 3 as a replacement for garmin swim. Yea, it’s a bit over the top regarding that i swim in the pool, but Garmin Swim often has sync issues via usb stick (have to run sync twice or even thrice on OSX), and fenix also has distance/time alarm that seems quite useful. //Had i mentioned that they look gorgeous? :)
Any garmin with optical heart rate measuring on the watch. Love to have no more strap.
Congrats on cutting loose the day job and focusing 100% on this. 2016 will be great!
Lots of different goodies actually: let’s start off with a tempe as the temp feature on a fenix 3 is not all that great. An extra footpod for the other pair of running shoes, saves on calibration. A Scosche RHYTHM+ Armband Heart Rate Monitor fot the days that i do not feel like the chest strap (or when the girlfriend wants to run heart rate while wearing support – the ladies know what i mean).
And the rest to go for a bike trainer; a quiet one if those already exist! Or i might just go for a garmin scale (but why torture myself even more ;-)
I would love to win a fenix 3 ? as my current GPS watch keeps dropping out ?
A trainer, since I’m not quite sold on a single leg power meter and, apart from the Android app, I’m pretty happy with my Ambit3.
I really want a Cervelo S3 but I’ll take an Edge 520! :)
I’d like to get the Garmin FR630 since I always dig the latest running tech. Thanks for the giveaway!
Garmin 920 xt triathlon package as I am really interested in the new development and it can be used for swimming better as well than my current watch.
I’m planning to do longer runs (50-70k) next year, so a Fenix 3 would have been very nice.
Speaking of which, what options are there if you just need long battery life but don’t want to spend so much when you don’t need all those fancy features?
Either a Fenix3 or Garmin 920….need to read up on them again :)
Garmin Fenix 3 – both great design and powerful.
I would get Garmin Phoenix 3, because this is awesome watch for long distance training. Just what I need ;-)
Dual leg power meter. My wife keep on telling me that my bike account is empty.
Don’t know… maybe new computer or power meter for trainer bike.
It appears that the HRM-Run thingie on my Forerunner 620 is not long for this world so might as well upgrade the whole watch if I’m going to have get a new belt…
I’d get a Suunto Ambit 3 (can’t wait for the Ambit 4 with vibrating alerts), my favorite GPS watch for (trail) running.
As always, great blog, Ray ! Best wishes for 2016
I’d buy a fitbit with heart rate because I want to continuously monitor my pulse (also during working hours) and improve my health. And with the rest of the money… Dunno yet.
I should probably look at some kind of power meter, but I would more likely put it towards some kind of action cam which is much more fun :)
I hope I can finally buy a decent powermeter like stages or powertap
Should be a GoPro, the only device that`s missing in the stable!
I need a new gps watch, most likely I’d go for either Fenix 3 or Ambit 3. All this simply because my old Ambit is having weird gps problems (instant pace is all over the place) :(
A Garmin 920xt for me. I’m fed up of having to manually cut the activities from my 620 when I do triathlons!
Edge 520 nothing worde than stopping mid ride to find out its just some random telemarketer.
