I do not cutback on my training during vacation. However the timing of my runs is adjusted according to the local weather conditions. I might opt for indoor runs in the hotel facilities sometimes.
While on vacation I try to run as much as I can. First off all I got plenty of time. And, more importantly, I can enjoy being surrounded by nature and breathing fresh air.
Usually I’ll grab my folding Bike for vacation. Not a real deal to my normal roadbike.
On my MTB becomes very biking on trails in a wonderful and challenging national park, even dirt road and asphalt tours around the area. This year, there are also plans to run there when I begin to bring order to an achilles tendon injury.
i keep same training schedule all year long
Depends on the vacation but normally a little running and swimming and lots of ice cream. :)
I keep on running and running and running
I guess it depends on the type and location of the vacation :) I wouldn’t go for a run in a game reserve for example (for one thing my watch might give the lions indigestion)… But if there’s any opportunity to run somewhere, I’ll take it!
From February 2014 i every morning on the work day do push ups:)
It depends on location but on the seaside I prefere to just walk – but rather longer distance.
It really depends on where I go – last year in Italy we got lots of cycling in which was a great way to see the area. If we are up in the lakes then it will mainly be hiking. I always like to throw an odd run in as well – an early morning run will often give a different perspective and sets you up for the day.
My holidays mean sea or mountains. And so, running along the cost of desert beach, or running uphill along a unknown trail. Freedom!!
lotsa beers here in summertime
Training is vacation!
Just some long walks with family, no training during vacation.
Well I keep running but then ice cream doesn’t really rehydrate! So it starts getting harder!
Try to fit in some runs and (when near water) open water swims – and that’s about the only time of year where I actually do open water swims!|
Depends on the length of vacation for me. I’ll give myself 3 days off completely. If I’m out more than 4, I’ll simply phase in some tempo runs or bike rides for some variety.
while I’am on my vacation I do nothing.
swimming and running in an easy way!
Usually go for longer and more relaxed runs, more focus on getting out and enjoying the weather. Also more trails run to experience nature.
I am a ultra runner and usually I introduce cross training like swimming, eating a lot, reading books on the beach, building castles of sand with my daugthers
Looking for decent bike rentals -and doing some prep work on trails etc. Failing that – running, most of the times trying to end near a local bakery to get fresh pastries & coffee..
swimming and running easy way
Heading to the Alps for the Passport Du Soleil MTB event for my holida :-) Hope I can take the Fenix3 with me!
I try to squeeze in a few run if I’m somewhere with nice scenery (not a city usually), otherwise relax.
Vacation = bike riding :) No training – just for fun!
First collect a couple of short and long distance GPX trails around the holiday location on the net. Running them is a great preparation for hiking them later on with the family. Running trails every day during holidays is great.
I love running in the early morning when it is cooler and exploring a new area is always exciting.
Swimming in a pool and/or sea helps to keep fitness up and I will hire a bike if possible.
Cross-training with the family on holiday usually includes hiking and tennis.
If the holiday does not include activities like hiking, I try to sneak in some running.
Training in vacation? Usually, I cut down my training plans. But there ist litteraly every time other sporty stuff I (or we)’d like to try out.
I negotiate with my coach about what I think is doable and what he thinks is doable ;)
I take the opportunity for long but easy runnings while discovering new routes
I leave the bike at home , instead I take the kids with me , so only swimming and running on holidays.
On vacation right now. 12 day all inclusive cruise. Sail days included runs around the boat. Each sail day included more jiggling.
I like to do calm runs when I’m on vacations. I use it as a way of exploring the area
Vacation? Who needs a vacation? But I would definitely need a Fenix 3!
I tend to run more when on vacation. I find it to be the best way to explore a new city/location. Get out early find your way around. Recent jaunt to Dili, Timor Leste and I ran all over that island, got off the grid and made discoveries that most tourist would never find!
Biking is out, but running shoes and jammers are always in my travel bag (though sometimes the best of intentions get sidetracked…!)
I just wake up 1 hour before my wife does, and run for 10 km – every single day !
Trails, hills, climbing, cycling, swimming, paddling and hiking. Climb a volcano in Guatamala, swim the pool on a cruise, follow a mountain trail in Europe, paddle a canoe in New Zealand. The world is for your enjoyment.
Usually less training, especially if away from home, then I usually just walk. I have thought about vacationing to participate in Seattle to Portland, but so far I’m still just thinking.
Running and hiking, as it’s easier to combine with other activities and don’t require so much equipment.
Muy vacations are to enjoy. And running is enjoy. So i try yo run and enjoy more than usual. Looking for non usual places to run.
Run, run, run! Too much work to find a pool and the hotel bikes are usually recumbent, so I usually go for a run after my wife and son go to sleep.
If I encounter some mountains on vacation l certainly would schedule some trail runs! When I visit more touristic places, I just try to find some spots without too much traffic.
I dont go in holiday haha
I wake up really early to 20 km long run. It’s still dark and my wife sleeps. I went to nearest hill to see sunrise and I’m back just before my wife woke up. After that we go to breakfast, icecream and enjoy whole day together. Somethimes it’s dificult, but this is way how I enjoy vacation on 100 % and don’t miss my training.
On vacation, training will be no different .. just another scenery
Running hard and ice-cream afterwards!
i usually go to vacation to do training: since i live in the alps (long winter) i just started with a week of biking & enjoying the sun at lake garda .
Food intake goes up, though I try to maintain my running training. Biking and swimming goes out the window, sadly …
I usually go on short trips so I try to schedule my runs around them.
When I do go on a longer trip I pack my running gear with the intention of running per my regular schedule, but I end up running less frequent, and fewer miles than at home.
On vacation I try to complete all my scheduled workouts, but half of them ruins into eating bonbons and ice craem :)
I try to plan my training around holidays. I train hard before a holiday and relax when I travel.
Usually vacation time means an opportunity to crank it up, since there´s more time the amount of training also goes up, occasionally the usual ice cream does enter the regimen, but only after a good run on the beach or wherever i went.
Living in the Netherlands, vacation is perfect to get some hill training in!
As usual, nothing less nothing more
I usually end up running a bit more and dropping everything else. Like me random.org :)
Mostly walking and on bike
I usually get distracted from the plan but try to go for a 30/45 easy run. So I don’t feel guilty :)
I try to squeeze in a few scenic bike rides while the kids and the wife lounge by the pool.
no vacation, only hard trainning……. NO!
For summer holidays, if I can squeeze the bike in somehow then it’s all good, otherwise I just take running kit and squeeze in some early morning runs. Winter holidays are mostly sporty anyway…
I love to stay active on holiday – to offset the wine and cheese. French Jura is great for that, with beautiful lakes to swim and run around with quiet rolling roads to cycle on. Then alcoholic recovery with the Tour on TV!
I plan my vacations around my training schedule :o) … to great joy of my family, of course.
Often plan to eat better and train harder but often tends to be more ice cream than training.
Going on a hike and I usually also try to do some swimming in open water.
I love to run on vacation and explore new areas! Sometimes i get lost so that Fenix 3 could be useful ;)
As vacations include the whole family, I adapt the activities with the family schedule. It could be hiking, snowboarding, mountain bike, swimming..whatever!
Walking while sightseeing or swimming
my holidays are mostly in the mountains –> peak attack!
Running – it’s the best way to explore a new location with the least faff!
When you’re on vacation you have all the free time you want so obviously hard training!
Running (requires minimal packing) and swimming (most vacations are somewhere warm with water).
Vacations just mean you aren’t dedicated
I usually take my running shoes with me on holidays, but they often spend the whole time waiting for me in the suitcase while I’m eating way too much nuts & sausages instead of training…
As far as biking is concerned, my wife who insists she wants to see me wearing something else than full lycra during the holidays. Which is a way to say “I forbid you to take your bike on holidays”.
So basically during the holidays : less time training, more time with the family.
I have to put my name in the ballot for those who have all the best intentions up until the vacation starts and then lean back and read books the entire time. Nope, I have a nice long commute with lots of possible detours and that works brillantly and lets me read a lot of books.
Running and biking. Then I go for the ice cream, or wine, or both!
My Holidays are usually a race / distance event in foreign climes followed by a week of rest and recovery.
Some running and if we brought our bikes, lots of riding!
Running, Biking and swimming in the sun :-)
On holiday I usually run as usual and mean to go for a big open water swim in the sea – but always turn back when I get freaked out by sharks.
I usually ride to far location to meet family or friend there.
Depends on the vacation location but usually a reduction in training of 25% but if on a beach holiday then long runs barefoot on the sand each morning.
i will try to run a few times on holiday, but this sentiment usually gets lost when the relaxation bug hits. :)
I would try my best to book a hotel with a gym, bring a set of training top, shorts, shoes, and go every other morning before breakfast. A bonus would be a pool, then some laps too.
Running, a swim or two if there is a nice open water spot for it and if we brought our bikes, lots of riding.
I take my running kit, and then try to get out enough not to feel guilty about the space it took up in my luggage. Sometimes that works.
At holidays all my training seems to be limited to beach tennis and casual swimming under the Greek sun. My excuse for this. Too hot to run :P
Get the extra free time to increase millage.
Move on to weight training – right hand beer, left hand ice-cream.
I usually replace running with long walks. Perhaps also some swimming if I have the opportunity.
However, this definitely also includes eating chocolate bonbons and ice cream :p
If I rest on the sea, this running and walking in the area. If in the village, running and biking in the woods
Hit the trails!
Usually just easy runs and swims.
Vacation is about balancing attention for my wife and kids… and getting in as many workouts as I can handle :) Vacations I run and bike alot and swim a little less. Each year after the vacation a multi-day short distance event starts and I come back very strong :) (www.twentsetriathlontour.nl, sorry in dutch)
just running around where ever we are, just site seening. And if whe have the bikes white us a lot of riding
some runs/swim just to keep myself fit and enjoy the rest of the moments
Normally on vacation I try to get balanced I recovery and do some training and combine it with tours…
In the last years, my vacations consist of cycling stage in the Pyrenees :)
