It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

I always take running shoes but usually they stay in the case and I just eat and drink…… Always try to book holidays after the season so don’t usually feel to bad!!
I try to run as much as possible early in the morning before the sun rises.
Mostly swimming.
Early mornings are great for a jog in a new city: not a lot of people out, traffic is slow, and usually the lighting is the best. It is also a good way to maximize the time outside the hotel room while others are just waking up!
Running seems the easiest and I love to hunt for pools even though it is not always easy depending on location!
Vacations are always good excuses to run and hike in exotic locations and explore new routes,
Its vacation, to me that means take a break from everything but I inevitably get some type of workout in.
Usually just run around in the woods, no hard training
As always – it depends :)
I usually plan to have a bit “active” vacation – so there is always time for some walking or hiking and from time to time also for jogging – simply saying – actively relaxing :)
Vacation training usually consists of leisure walks shopping for new gear. Maybe some recovery shakes probably chocolate.
Maybe exploring a bit to see what’s interesting at the new vacation locale.
Recovery swim/float in the hotel pool or some local body of water.
The workout continues! I always find that morning runs on vacation add to the overall experience. You get a vibe as to what the certain area is like as you run through the streets (something you dont always get when you only go to the tourist attractions).
I want finished full marathon. So run run run and down my fat
I schedule a race and then plan my vacation around the race. In my opinion, there’s no better way to see and experience a new place than to run there!
Sometimes I run, sometimes I bike, sometimes I swim. When I am vacation I do whatever I want…
it all depends on the particular vacation. I usually run more since I love exploring new locations and places. But since it is a vacation I just sometimes prefer doing nothing and enjoying the time with my family or friends to doing something that is beneficial to my health…:D
On vacation I try to find scenic places to run and hike, especially along the coast! Any swimming or biking I do is with my little one and purely for fun.
My vacation running is usually running around the city for at least 10K.
Typically vacations are more like training camps. Just take some time off of work, grab the bike and gear, and travel to a warmer climate to get in some solid miles.
keep calm and carry on (ex).
If I am running a race then I stay on my schedule otherwise try and atleast do a short 3-5 mile run.
Shorts get shorter,
and kilometers come faster,
and hills become even more punishing than ever after.
I thought the definition of vacation was eat everything in sight (specifically those things you dont eat normally) and sleep all day?
Running on the beaches of Spain, Portugal or Italy!
Mostly hiking, swiming on vocation and geocaching :)
Hi,
I try to do at least some short runs in the morning, where ever I am. Sometimes I have som luck to participate in a small race (5k to max. 10km) which leaves time later on for my family ;-)
And then enjoy the local food :-)
sightseeing by running!
Staycation… swimming in the ocean, pizza, mojitos, good stuff
On summer vacation I like to ride freely, so I usually schedule my training so that the rest & recovery week coincides with this. That way I can enjoy new scenery while camping in places where I’ve never biked. And I get to view lots of wild-life. Last year I came very close to running into a black bear here in Ontario, Canada! But don’t tell my wife that. She’d freak out.
Harvey
Running and hiking (geocaching). Running is easy since I need almost nothing–shoes and clothes. Geocaching is good because it usually takes me to sites that a visitor might not know about (like a community park in Sepangar WAY off of the beaten path).
Almost certainly doesn’t make up for the change in my diet when I travel, though
Easy run around the city…
Usually end up working around our small farm…strength training is bucking hay…
Going to attend Vätternrundan 2015 in Motala Sweden this summer vacation!
Mountain biking (downhill and XC) and running…
Winter it’s all about skiing. Mid-week is for preparation for weekend / vacation skiing trips. Rest of the year it’s mostly biking and hiking, trying to get as much of these as possible while on vacation
Usually I either am hiking on nearby trails or if I’m able, mtn biking. I try to keep it more casual while on vacation.
i run & bike throughout the year. I add swimming laps in the winter as well as spin class.
My vacations revolve around doing something active so I usually run but just shorter distances. I relax a bit on what I eat and usually have an extra glass of wine in the evening.
Also take my running shoes and run at least every other day
Our vacations usually involve travel with kids, and we spend a lot of time hiking, biking greenways, or geocaching to explore the areas we visit.
Some of my vacations are centered around running events, however, when they do not, like this winter on snowboarding trips, I run in sub-zero temps.
I’m just back from a weekend holiday in the France alps. Normally I run and roadbike on my holiday’s. This year i’m training for a triathlon in Embrun SD. So I can use that watch :D
Oh for everyone who’s overweight. Keep on going! I lost 50 KG and life is just a lot more fun.

10k on the rim trail in grand canyon national park on the way to big sur.
Training in vacation? Mmm… I suppose trying the local cuisine and jogging to the beach the last day of holodays count as training…
It’s hit or miss at this point in life for training while on vacation. Vacation now days is vacation from everything, whereas I used to not skip a beat. Having kids changes my priorities, in a good way though.
I Try to always pack a pair of trainers and light weight clothes so I can sneak in a run or hit the hotell’s gym. Also if I’m not pressen for time I try to walk everywhere instead of public transport or taxies. Instead of 10K days I get 15-20K days.
This reminds me of when I started to train for the first time.
I went on vacation to Japan just two weeks before my first tri race and men, couldn’t stop to eat yakisoba (noodles) and takoyaki (octopus) delicious. Ahhhhh and for the breakfast before start my running training nothing best than a traditional japanese lunch.
Everyone at Ueno park were amazed how fast a gajin could run XD
During vacation, there is always time for lots of eating! Yum Yum…
I train a lot more, cycling, running, swimming, because i have the time and motivation on vacation
Running 10k at every place I’m visiting on vacation
Usually I stick to an early morning run. Running travels well. Just need some shoes and google maps. I also tend to train less and eat more. It’s vacation!
generally stop most training on holiday, focus on the food :-s
a nice morning run, but one must have extravagant dinners at night – with deserts!
i always run on holidays! i try to find a nice walking route of a good distance and discover and enjoy the environment! always happy afterwards :)
Finally time for some quality training like a Pro. Eat, Morning run or swim, rest, eat, afternoon training ride, rest, eat, rest! No other worries!
If it’s a normal vacation a morning run to enjoy the sunrise and discover the surroundings is the best way to start the day for me! Up before all the turists and the breakfast aftereards tastes twice as good!
Hi ray,
During the year, it’s road running, road bike and swimming pool. On vacation : Trail, montain bike, sea swimming.
Best regards
Vacation is my chance to step up. Mostly running since it’s easily can be performed anywhere. Also a whole lot more time spent outdoors in general, instead of sitting in front of a desk.
short runs and wine. Lots of wine.
As I can’t train as much as I would like when working I push harder on vacation. I exercise 2-3h/day and 1 dayof rest per week. I usually do cycling and swimming. Sometimes I also do some running.
Usually it’s longer low-intensity runs/rides, would love to do trail running on my next vacation — can’t get enough that sort of thing in the city.
I like to find a local race where I’m on vacation! You can’t stop training :)
Compromise … Trying to train as much as possible without interfering too much with family time. Including running at strange times of das.
I run or swim each day on holiday and maybe kayaking for a change if available
running outside and on the treadmill :)
If is mountain holiday then definitely more training and doing if possible some marathons. If going by the sea then things are a little bit more difficult as sun it cuts my energy a little bit but still I try to find places which have mountains / hills close by to do some training.
In vacation (not at home, right?), long runs. In vacation but at home ? hard work as always ! ;-) Intervals, long run, 10K, 5K weekly.
Know new cities riding bike. Swim in the sea or lake if i can
Actually on a vacation right now- i planned on training- ended up eating.
Holiday running is the obvious opportunity to run new places, enjoy yourself and break your routine…
Vacations call for running and seeing new sights. No better way to see a city than with an early morning run.
Press on with the schedule. Generally running and swimming if I can. With maybe a little more beer than usual…
My goal is to forget about work at least one day while vacating.
Cross Country skiing, there is still snow in the mountain during that time
Added time used to do long endurance rides
Resting
I usuaaly running and running and runnig
Depends where I am but on holiday I try to do some running unless I’m at a festival. On our last holiday last October visiting friends in Scotland we all took part in the Edinburgh 5k Park run which was lots of fun.
Vacation very often means interval training hiking and dining
Cut back and relax for maybe three days… Then run again.
Mostly swimming and some running, as we typically go for sun, sea and beach. Although lately I’ve sacrificed running shoes in my luggage for pool toys for the kids…
I mostly run since its the easiest to do on the road and also I like being able to explore. The best workout I ever did on vacation though was an 85 mile ride while training for IMFL last year and I came across a huge bike group doing a century in Minneapolis.
I typically keep things the same, but take the opportunity to enjoy differing scenes and challenges. I wonder if I go harder because I plan on getting the most scenery and tougher challenges while I am a different part of the country.
On ski holidays we usually do a competition downhill or most kilometers. All day long we do slopes and trails and of course some apres ski !!!
On vacation, I try to get a holiday from my training….and try to do something completely different from the usual pavement, so on vacation, I become champion surfer Andy Irons, the legend fell-runner who is Joss Naylor, or Mad Mountain Biker Steve Peat. Keeps it fresh, keeps the fitness and most importantly, feels like I’ve had a vacation!
Did a 5k run today just to get me warmed up… in Gent, Flanders
It depends on weather and my friends.
I usually spend more training with friends pr just making trips to some cool places.
Running typically, hoping to cycle in Austria this year.
Daily run on the beach
Training on vacation depends on where I’m headed. If I’m headed to the in-laws then training is put off simply because that sort of thing is frowned upon there. Vacation at my parents means training as usual, since my Dad is a runner as well. Our vacation time is spent going to see family because we don’t live near any, and we have four kids. My job causes me to travel quite a bit; (18 days a month) so I’m always getting to try out a new trail. I’ve been looking hard at the Fenix 3 since it was first announced. It would be a great upgrade from my Garmin 305 that I currently use ;). Either way I enjoy running all over North, Central America, and Europe. It’s neat to see the differences and similarities from the running perspective that my job allows me to enjoy.
On vacation I bring my bike and cycle a lot. Preferably in the mountains.
run 21k
Usually after a two week motorcycle trip I start to ride my bike. Trying to lose some kilos…
I try to stay to my normal training load, and just enjoy the new scenarie and time of day
what is holiday, precious?
(Running, doesn’t require a lot of kit to carry)
Instead of the regular stuff, my vacations mostly involve hiking with heavy backpacks. So no rest for me.
I run 9 or 10k-ish at the hotel gym or running outside.
Running release stress and makes me sleeps and eats well.
I typically to more training on vacations since I have more time for it, I like training camps on vacations.
Early morning runs, followed by the pool all day fuelled by chocolate and ice cream
If work has been getting in the way, I use vacations as a chance to get workouts in without the constraints of home. Often a run exploring the town gives a chance to combine exercise and sight-seeing. Also, if I’ve had a bit too much fun the night before, an hour or so of a good sweat is the best cure for the hangovers that are getting progressively worse as I progress through my 30s.
Getting up early watching sunrise at the beach. Looking down my old FR 205 6 miles. Turn around time for a dip in the ocean.
I try to continue running per schedule, but usually longer. I add brisk walks with family in the evenings to offset generous vacation portions.
I usually just push through with my regular scheduled training. I’ll either find a pool or lake for an open water swim – and a gym for my bike workouts. Not preferrable to ride a spin bike in the gym for long trainings, but better than not riding!
It depends on how long of a vacation I am on. All types of training cant benefit from a short break, so will suspend training if my vacation is less than a week. Anything longer than a week, or back to back vacations would result in returning to my training schedule.
Bicycle ride in the morning, with good food and wine with family and friends later.
It depends–if I’ve just come off a big race, I take it completely easy. Otherwise, some long slow runs to take in the scenery.
Mostly swimming from where the water slide deposits me into the pool to the ladder and then up the slide steps to do it again. But if I get a chance for some time to myself, I try to get at least one easy long run through town or hotel area to scout for ideas for the following day’s family excursion.
Running through city.
I do my best to find the best local trail before I get there with Google and asking around online, then try to run a few extra miles around my wife and son’s schedule to offset the inevitable extra calories. This often means night running on an unfamiliar route, which is by no means a burden!
Whatever the plan calls for that day.
