It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

I try to work in a couple of sightseeing runs while on vacation.
Usually I’m at the beach so running is a must. If it’s somewhere safe I’ll take my bike and get in a shop ride somewhere. No matter what, I’m outdoors constantly on vacation.
Vacation is a time to go the extra mile. I use the extra time to kick my training into high gear
A typical vacation for me would include more exercise, both intentional and accidental. Intentional in that I have more time, and am often motivated by the location and the people around that location to bike and swim more. Accidental in that a typical vacation would include lots of site seeing which for me by definition includes lots of walking/climbing, and snorkeling. Both of those forces that cause me to ramp up my caloric output pairs well with my love of food at remote exotic locals that cause me ramp up (I hope equitably) my caloric input.
Love your reviews, thanks for all the good info. Gearing up for a an Olympic distance Tri (my second) this summer.
Just a bit of running here and there, no specific schedule or target because it’s vacation time ;)
My wife and I just went on an 8 night cruise, workout options were limited but I was still able to log 100 running miles with about 80 of those being on a treadmill…My Kryptonite! I put in more miles in that week+ than I have in the past 5 years combined. It was mind numbing but I had to do it in order to counteract the extra calories I was pounding down. Dang, I ate a lot of dessert!
I always take all my gear and good intentions. And then it never happens more than one run. I know, I know.
I try to stay on schedule… Just later on the morning because I’m sleeping in
If I can bring my bike, I will, but my running shoes is always with me no matter where I go. New places means new experiences, so I don’t always follow my regular plan when on vacation :)
I usually scale down and bring some shorts and shoes and try to get in whatever mileage I can!
Hope to bring a Fenix 3!
Tramping and walk everywhere possible, oh and an increase of food and beer….
I usually just relax and have fun, but I try not to let the diet get too out of control.
Random things, like carpe diem:) in combonation with some runs in the early morning.
Vacation training. I always start vacation with the best plans in mind. Going to use the hotel bikes, rent a bike, get some real workouts in. This usually turns into chocolate cake pretty quickly.
I love to find a fun run route and try not to get lost. That’s why I hope a fenix 3 happens my way.
Vacation is the time to have fun and exercise!
I usually keep training as usual or go a little further. That way I can eat more!
In Rio, it gets too hot to run, even at night. Up to 35 degrees at two in the morning!
I always enjoy new running course on holiday!
It makes me to challenge. :)
Just an easy run to keep fit
Typically, my wife and I run for 1.5-2 hours, then head to the beach. On Kauai we like to swim with the Honu (turtles) inside the reef line. So much fun!
Wake up early and go get a nice run to discover the city, or go hiking if staying near home :)
I keep my training schedule and try to get some cool places mapped out on my training. I try to find places other people run on garmin connect.
Nope. It’s vacation. If I can get a run or swim in the morning before the mrs. wakes up, I consider myself lucky.
trying to make it all the way around Jekyll Island after my heart attack!!!
Vacation time means travelling to a race!
Exploring new places with a run! Just have to remember to place a pin/waypoint at the start for me to find my way back.
I always run on vacation! You can run virtually anywhere, it’s by far the most “portable” workout.
I usually get a good run in every day.
I try to find a bike and go explore a local route when I can. Otherwise formal training takes a vacation. Of course, I haven’t been on vacation in about 5 years.
I’m generally a slacker during vacation. Get my cardio by walking a lot exploring the sites.
On vacation it is running or hiking only, but if there is a pool around I will try to get some laps in. However, a lot of my vacations I try to get a 1/2 or a 10K run in to enjoy the local scene.
On vacation, I usually try to utilize the hotel treadmill. If I know the area I might go outside for a run, but that’s pretty rare.
I’m on vacation this weekend and have gotten two runs in and plenty of pool time with the kids. Other vacations consist of hiking and biking!
I usually try to maintain my fitness schedule but I usually end up eating ice cream and drinking beer instead :)
I try to continue my normal schedule while on vacation.
Usually run, but cut back while on vacation!
Always run in the new places, vacation or business trips. Can see more, farther and off the usual paths. Love it.
Ski, swim, drink. Repeat.
depends on how long i’m away and if it’s convenient or a complete chore, but i’ll usually try to get some running in, at least.
I push on.
I normally train more while on vacation.
I tend to swim more. Probably because pools are synonymous with vacation.
i tend to run more – running shoes are easy to pack.
Competitive Skinny Dippin
I love being able to train when I like and not have to fit in with work commitments, it makes training a pleasure not a chore to be part of a schedule.
Take the bike and explore
Tend to push on with similar activities or sub new activities pending on the location. The Garmin Fenix3 would be a great addition as it can handle any activity, count calories, sleep, and control Virb. Awesome all in one, which makes keeping you on top of your game easier.
I usually run. It’s a great way to explore the new surroundings.
Some of my vacations include hiking, and then I’d try to plan for a rough trail with many ascents for high HR.
When travelling with my family the hikes are usually more relaxed but having one of my 6yo twins on my shoulders most of the time adds to the challenge :)
I’m in the no training camp.. and the cookies and cake ;-)
Vacation time is family time, so I do cut back. But if I can sneak in a run to explore, yeah.
put the bike in the motorhome, set a route on the Garmin and follow the line on the display!
I try to get in a few scenic runs and otherwise stay active with my husband and baby by exploring our destination….of course while eating chocolate:)
Vacations are swim vacations.
Max out in openwater swims.
I go on vacation to swim.
I like to use vacations to train in new places and new environments.
run, swim, bike
Always bring my training gear when we go on vacation. Whether or not it gets used….that is a different question! I usually get out at least once. Preferably on a trail, mountain, or a nearby park. Love seeing nature in new places!
Love to run on vacation
Long fun rides, with no specific schedule! Ice cream after!
Vacation runs include running with my daughter on days when she isn’t at school and I don’t have to go to work!
Got to keep exploring
In the summer vaction I go hiking in the mountains. This year I go to Serra de Montsant
Love to do some trekking and sleep in forest.
Try and race Family members im on vacation with!
Definitely my favorite way to explore a new place is in my running shoes, so the training doesn’t usually suffer much.
Our vacations are either in October (after racing season ends), where I’m happy to ignore training or limit myself to the odd run, or they are in winter/spring where a vacation is really a training camp.
I’m lucky that my wife is happy to put up with the above, and even in the training camps she comes along and rides a bike, or uses my time away to do yoga, reading and have a bit of time for herself.
Our vacations are usually quite full of walking, hiking, cycling or just being beach bums…and most importantly running after 3 little kids. Sometimes I’m trying to squeeze in my own run after kids fall asleep (if I don’t fall asleep first :-)).
On a vacation i continue to train folowing predefined schedule. New scenary and trials are just added bonus.
I dont follow a regime on holidays, just train as I feel like.
Dinghy/Cat sailing if feasible, if not, cycling.
Cycling – mainly involving a mountain or two in and around the Alps. However, when I am not climbing, it is so hard not to indulge in a Pinot noir and cheesecake – my Achilles heel……..
Although I suffer the next day, it is so worth it……
Vacation time is high intensity training for me – ie. usually going to the playground or swimmingpool with my 5 year old and trying to keep up.
Vacation is perfect time for training because I’m tempted with beautiful beaches and sea. And it’s hard to stay focused and disciplined, so my day looks like this: morning at beach, afternoon running to windmills, and recovery beach time. Pretty intense :)
I tend to slowdown a bit on frequency during holidays.
I usually cut back a little.
That’s easy!
Holiday = less work which = more training!
Yes, I’d like on please, oh please!
Bo
If I am at home I step it up a bit more.
If I am abroad I stick to running
Runnung and swimming
Short run early in the morning
Run,run and run some more!
Vacation=no training.
Running just for fun and to explore new places.
Usually I adapt to whatever is available in the hotel gym, plus sometimes go for a run around the area (unless it’s Boston in January …)
some light running whenever I can since it’s the simplest. My holidays are usually short anyway.
If I’m training for an event I like to fit the holiday into a recovery week and take it easier. If it’s just general training then a holiday is often useful for stepping it up and mixing it a little with other activities.
I usually use vacations to start something new in recent years and up the ante too – I always used to be just a mountain bike rider, then a vacation saw me become a road rider, then a runner… perhaps my next holiday will see me start to swim (after i reseal our deck – does the Fenix count painting strokes at all)?
Some early light run just to keep the muscles going!
early morning 10km runs for the vacations
I try to get the best running training thanks to free time available
I am trying to use the free time for some longer trainings.
And ice cream, lots of icecream
Depends of where I am in vacation. Typicaly I slow down the training activity and start alternatives like hiking, which I do not at home. – there is no reason for ice cream only in vacation ;)
TRX with me, swimming, that’s all
Training shifts to pool only, no biking or running, and a lot of rest!
While on vacation, I am usually a tourist. I don’t do much training since there are more exciting things to do.
Vacation is usually doing an IronMan with my wife!
Trailrunning through dutch dunes is vacation for me!
Vacation most times is interval training hiking – dining
Vacations tend to include lots of walking and exploring so I tend to let that be my “training”. Also included is lifting my kindle and wine glass :)
Vacations tend to include lots of walking for me, so I cut back, but still love going for runs in new locales, so I don’t stop altogether.
Try to hit up the hotel gym always, but when on vacation I’m out to let loose!
Run whenever I get the chance
Vacation training means running in new, exotic locations, or not so exotic locations like the hotel treadmill…
