The DCR’s on Vacation Fenix3 Giveaway!

IMG_7145

It’s giveaway time!  Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.

This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training.  It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)

So how do you enter?

Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation.  Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule?  Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?

The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training.  This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap.  And then you can get it with or without the HR strap.  Totally your choice!

As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway.  Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.

Thanks for reading!

The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time.  Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

Mostly swim and run. A little less cycling.

  2. Mike P

Cutting back on running a bit, instead doing loads of hiking/walking/cycling – kind of a low impact rest double-week (that’s my usual holiday frame).

  3. Ricardo HR

    Running

  4. Keven Williams

If I’m training for a marathon I’ll get the runs I have scheduled in, but if I’m in between training sessions I’ll push to get in a few light runs just to keep my legs moving and to help eat up some of the extra dessert and beer calories.

  5. Diego

I really like active vacations. My trick is just to plan workouts it in advance.

  6. Derick

Definitely the bulking phase of my workout regimen.

  7. Chris

I always try and run on vacation — it’s the best way to see a new city.

  8. Chris hutton

I generally try and take vacation just after a race so I can relax. I will mobilify stuff in the pool but I try and get a well earned rest. Last year after the escape from Alcatraz I took 2 weeks in Tuscany doing a little walking tours but mainly eating and drinking by the pool ;-)

  9. I’ve just startet planning my holidays after the opportunities for quality training. But my girlfriend and I agrees that the training plans needs to make room for quality time as well ;) Vacation = Life Quality (is it too much?… I don’t think so)

  10. Michael dToit

I usually try to press on with the planned schedule.

  11. Menachem Grossman

When on vacation, I run. When I run, I’m on vacation. So, simply, running is the answer. What was the question?

  12. Conor

My ideal vacation is one where I can increase my training and run twice a day in lovely weather – perfect :-)
    Have a great vacation!
    Conor

  13. Darek

I always take my watch with me and try to stick to my schedule but it’s always more runs and activities because i meet with my friends on vecation and we run together :) I’m looking forward this years vecation, i will do my first marathon with my friends ;)

  14. Lawrence

    Easy 30 minutes jog.

  15. Melissa Drew

I can’t get myself to keep up a normal training routine on vacation, but my husband and I almost always will for for morning runs to explore our new territory and ride bike shares as our means of getting around.

  16. Juanje Cánovas

I try to go to the mountains as much as I can.

  17. I keep running on vacation, but always lighter than usual. Just enough to burn off the ice cream and bonbons.

  18. sebastian Birch

    I thought Vacations were for:
    1) Going to far away races
    2) more time to train
    3) Train during the day on weekdays

    :)

  19. Honza

    I am running.

  20. Owain

    Parkrun!!!!

  21. Nathan George

Hike, snowboard or swim depending on where I am. Maybe a quick run if I can fit my trainers in my bag with me as well

  22. Mike Tamayo

I try to ride if I can manage to bring my bike. If not, I switch to 30 minute runs and some core work.

  23. Tim K

I do lots of weight lifting on vacation. Multiple sets of high reps lifting dessert to my mouth. Then maybe a run to balance it out.

  24. Allen L

Trips are usually active in nature so training takes the form of the sport du jour (i.e., snowboarding, kiteboarding, scuba diving).

  25. AndrewLB

Normally just a lot of walking around whichever city we’re visiting but this next one will be different; plenty of chances for open water swimming, running along the beach and a whole heap of other beach based stuff. Hopefully maintaining my good track record of returning lighter than I left…

  26. Enrique Ortiz

Easy bike rides on weekends, weekdays 7mile runs, plus swim

  27. Dave Torre

For me vacation is all about the family so I try to get the training in when everyone is asleep. I have to be creative and try to sneak off on a treadmill or small loop around the hotel. Recently, I was on vacation in Japan and still marathon training. I was fortunate that there were activities in my area that were captured on Strava.

  28. Rb

I usually plan my vacations to coincide with a race. So one day of effort filled by several days of relaxation

  29. CATALINA AGUILAR

    Tempo runs and swimming

  30. Ted D

    cut back to running only

  31. John S

I would use the Fenix3 for hiking and some running during a vacation.

  32. Ken S

I usually back off the bike and only run and maybe swim while on vacation.

  33. Mike B

Usually just take it easy and feel guilty!

  34. Erik

On vacation it’s usually a laid back exercise effort. Something along the lines like family walks and swimming for fun.

  35. Stephen Rahaim

    Donuts, sleep, rinse, repeat.

  36. Steve

Ran the country music marathon in Nashville, TN today!!! First marathon

  37. Scott Schuby

If the vacation isn’t for training/racing, then I’m doing something wrong.
Just kidding, I generally cut back to runs and potentially a swim.

  38. Ibizage

    Run, bike and swim!!

  39. Rob F

Vacations are normally raceations for us and we typically plan a race during the vacation. I look forward to running and racing in different places.

  40. Tosin

Depends on where I’m going, but usually it’s a run. I just tweak my schedule for that week so I load up on the heavy stuff before I go on vacation. No more than 6 miles if I’m running.

  41. Erik

    My vacation consists of:
More training and more family time. Instead of lifing weigts at the gym I lift kids at home. We try to divide time in 3 parts. My time, my wifes time and the all together time. My alone time not only gives me time on my own to charge for better parenting. It also gives us a chanse for better bonding, beeing alone with the kids.

The running shoes always comes along for any trips.

  42. patrick

I was just saying how I’d love to get a fenix3!

  43. Scott E

I usually get more exercise on vacation by body surfing, skiing, mountain biking, and taking advantage of the all that training. Of course I usually get more injuries on vacation too over doing it with all the GoPro shots taking place.

  44. Adam

Basically I like to run more often than usual, maybe swim and snorkel, if there is a possibility for it.

  45. marco

Bike training is the preferred option, but only if really really feel the need instead of a longer sleep

  46. Vincent Huard

    I just do nothing ;-)

  47. David Zuñiga

If there is long distance traveling related then I’ll stick to running and maybe a few sets of openwater swimming, but if it’s short distance related I’ll stick to my bike!

  48. roger_s

I follow the normal schedule with running every other day, some swimming if applicable, and hiking.

  49. Grzesiek

During winter vacations in warm places I overheat easy so couple miles daily early at sunrise.
During skiing vacations my legs suffer enough, no need to abuse them more.
Most summer vacations are biking, hiking, during sightseeing ones I look for race opportunities…

  50. Sheldon Hille

Depends, but the most exercise I’ll do on vacation is if I go hiking or long walks, or swimming because I happen to be snorkeling etc etc.

  51. Euan

My wife is a big fan of beach vacations..(as am I) but I take the opportunity to max out on open water swims. Felix three would make all this more accurate.

Also traveling for work for two weeks and decides to take my bike to London. Loving it!

  52. Gavin

Depends on the location but I’ll probably do more workouts rather than less. Bigger runs, longer bike rides and if it’s an island, definitely will do two swims a day. Of course, most trips i go to are active ones anyway (ie week long guided bike tours, etc).

  53. Mathieu

Swim, bike and run as much as I can.

  54. John

It depends on the trip. If I’m going skiing, the rest of training stops. If it’s the beach, I’ll try to run in the mornings.

  55. Jeffrey McBeth

I usually search out the local running trails. I find it such a wonderful way to see the natural beauty of an area.

  56. Steve PErry

I typically stick to my hotel gym. But occasionally I will head out on a run.

  57. kris

    Up early, find something scenic
,spend the rest of the day relaxing with the family.

  58. Harish Lakshman

I am on vacation now. Mind wants to press on training as per schedule but body wants to be goofing off. So far, body is winning.

  59. Chris Michael

Take advantage of free childcare from our parents, and then run 2x more than usual.

  60. Ed DeLosh

I press on and look forward to checking the routes in the area! Great to hit some new roads and trails, other than the ones near home…

  61. Trampus

I usually scale back on my running. If I can get a run in every other day while on vacation I consider it a success. Vacation is harder on my diet than on physical training.

  62. Laci

Vacations are rare and we spend the days walking a lot. Not much time or energy left for running. So training suffers a lot, but the weekly mileage, perhaps not so much.

  63. Drew Martin

Vacation =new places to run. Which equals FUN.

  64. Vil

I try to run every day if possible.

  65. Phillip

I like to run on vacation cause it’s usually a new place I’ve never been, or if it’s a place I’ve been before at least it’s a change of pace from where I normally run at home. I like to keep it to shorter distances tho just so I don’t get all worn out on vacation.

  66. Colin Foe-Parker

Unfortunately, I don’t have the resolve to train on vacation. Vacation, work travel, etc. just throws off my ability to train.

  67. Artur

Looking forward to renting a road bike in Winnipeg when I’m there in June. Any one can share with advice on shops that’d accommodate? :)

  68. Irene G.

    Good Day,
I just started getting back in shape after being physically inactive for almost 10 years. I did my first half with pretty pathetic results but I DID IT and signed up for the next one

  69. Tom

Vacation is training with a combined 60lbs of bike and gear.

  70. Joe E

Respect the plan. Doesn’t matter where of what. I trained on 4 continents for my last marathon.

  71. John Guest

Don’t tell the wife, but I choose my holiday locations after researching suitable training routes around the hotel or resort. If ‘by chance’ there happens to be a local race while we’re there, even better still. Sshhh!! ;)

  72. Kevin R

I like to run on vacation it’s a great way to see new areas. I also do a lot of trails and hiking.

  73. Jay Tay

Run more before the holiday and use the holiday as recovery.
A Fenix 3 would be a great replacement for my dead Timex Global.

  74. Bernard K

I typically can only run on vacation since if I go somewhere, can’t easily bring my bike. Of course if there is a pool, I try to sneak in some pool swims. LOL

  75. Michael Macdonald

I keep training, most of the time I can take my gear with me, if not, I rearrange the plan to suit the vacation timing and what’s available.

  76. Dan

Usually more exercise on vacation because fewer responsibilities.

  77. Stephen Helgemo

i love training on vacation and will do whatever I can to continue on!

  78. Craig

I’ll run a couple times while on vacation, but I’m mostly there to relax.

  79. Kevin

Running. I can usually stick to the plan. Sometimes it needs to be a recovery week.

  80. Fred

    Running

  81. Eric Routhier

Vacation is vacation. I’ve tried to train on vacation, but with the kids and wife, it gets difficult, read impossible, after a few days, to get up and push hard. Especially after that great wine we had the previous night! So now I pick races that are BEFORE my vacation. Problem solved. I just take it easy after and during the vacation. So that way the wife and kids are all happy. And so am I!

  82. Gary

Long walks admiring the obscenely priced real estate in CO ski towns. And….the occasional jog/walk.

  83. Jan

cycling, skiing, but on the majority of vacation ice cream eating

  84. Andrew

Running and Hiking but if we’re driving to the vacation spot then always take the mountain bikes for some riding too.

  85. Jonas S.

I usually try to go running and/or swimming depending on available space. Most of the time I just end up running, because it’s easier (and also cheaper).

  86. devin

unless it’s a 5 day vacation, I generally just take it easy

  87. Arnaud

i usually mostly do just runs in vacations.

  88. Dave

Just niche I steady walks/bike rides with the family.

  89. Rob

20 mile long runs at 5K pace! JJ , really just a few easy 45 minute runs to get my blood moving.

  90. Rw

    S/B/R+I(ce cream)!!!1

  91. Kenneth

I run whenever I can just to maintain. Otherwise I’ll be checking out the local cuisine.

  92. jame

On vacation i end up doing more (and more kinds of) exercise – run, bike, and a climb

  93. When on vacation I mainly run- wife and I bring our shoes and explore the locale.

  94. Ann

Training on vacation is always a challenge.

  95. Ski

Running in the morning every other day when on vacation, sometimes I’ll rent a bike, or if there is a nice gym at the hotel I’ll do that.

Mostly I vacation in warm places, so outside activities are usually the way to go.

  96. Sangwoo Bae

Running: Five times a week (In the morning)

  97. Scott

Vacation for me means light lifting a few light beers, that is the extent of my exercising during vacation.

  98. Winnie

Hiking at the yellowstone with the family! The Fenix would be handy.

  99. Michal

I tend to take time off and not train on vacation … unless the vacation is the training like hikes or mountain climbing, though I’m hoping to someday do one of the week long riding training camps.

  100. Raye

When i travel for vacation there is always an IRONMAN to do =)
