It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

I usually try to get in a run or two during the trip if i can.
Watching my husband
I always look for a local tri or running races in holiday, you never know…
I like to schedule vacations at goal race locations. If not, I always plan runs to make site-seeing faster and give me a better idea of what I’d like to go back to see at slower speed.
Swimming in the lake with the kids, hiking, road or mtn biking when possible.
Swim, bike, run wherever I can!
Swim Run Ride any chance I could get
Running
Just keep going!
Splashing around the pool is as intense as it gets. Vacation is a time to chill.
If I can run, I will but it is often a hiking/backpacking vacation.
Vacations are for running in new locations ;)
Typically shifts all my runs to early in the morning – both because the rest of the family will not miss me and because we often go to warm location for vacation where it is too hot for runs in the afternoon anyway.
We have been taking our vacations to train, biking long, overnighting and running where it fits in.
Usually i just run when the kids sleep.
Mostly low intensity training with my wife. Hiking, running, biking and of course skiing. Fenix 3 is the perfect watch for those activities.
Thanks for a nice blog.
Like you, I get to travel to a lot of cool places for work. I always make sure I turn part of the trip into a vacaction by adding another country or another city to my log book. I continue to find that exploring by foot early in the morning is the best way to scout the area.
Most of my vacation are around events or races. So I guess it is a mixed bag, I am often starting with a taper, racing in the middle and recovering near the end.
Waking before the kids to train and then drink too much beer all day. Vacation never goes well.
Running, biking, hiking or sailing with all the family.
Run – only minimal gear to pack!
Definitely run, swim and bike when practicle
It depends what time off year I’m on vacation. Luckily this year my holiday is within my taper week before Ironman UK, so other than a light jog I’ll be sunning myself ready for the finish line race photo.
Running anywhere everywhere.
I usually run more when on vacation, longer runs, more frequent runs.
I’ll usually cut back a little on vacation. I’ll do some light work just to stay active, but I try to enjoy my time away as much as I can.
Running, swimming or cycling on wonder what is going on! Once you find an excuse, you will find another one, etc., that is the reason why I do not stop!
Since i usually don’t really travel that much i have a weird tendency to press on rather a lot. Especially in the summer with long morning walks at the waterfront and in forrests. And then later on “ordinary” workouts. There’s just something therapeutical when the sun comes up and looking out at the water.
Cycling as always, couldn’t live without it. BUT during vacation with more time for the precious recovery!
Do as much as I can, whenever I can!
ramp up the training with runs and swims whilst kids are sleeping
I definitely bike more than usual since I usually travel to warmer locations than the Canadian winter (and any ride outside is way more fun than being stuck on the trainer)
Long runs preferably in some fantastic places like sea beaches, dense forests, volcano slopes☺
During vacation, longer runs or bike sessions, swimming in open water, working my transitions etc. And taking as much pleasure as I can!!!
Get to run more when on vacation, since i dont have to go work :)
Cycling and hiking, and allways as routemaster!
No cutting back. I wouldn’t miss the boardwalks, the beaches and the sun! I try to pick a hotel with a lap pool whenever possible.
I like to run on vacations. Good way to see the area
My training stays the same but also shared on Facebook like any other travel photo.
I usually just feel guilty about not training.
Ice cream and chocolate bon bon sound good.
I try to squeeze in a few runs, but vacations are usually busy as is.
I think I usually have more time to train during the vacations. I also find it nice to be able to run in places I do not know in advance, e.g. when travelling. It’s a really good way to get to know your way around a city.
I like to run on the top of a Mountain and enjoy the Natur.
Depends. If there’s a long run scheduled during a marathon training cycle, I will get as close to that mileage as possible. If not, I will run whatever fits best, minimum 1 mile a day.
I try to do some training but usually don’t.
Cut back but, take the GPS to do some Geocaching with the Family
I try to run when it’s convenient for the family. Or sneak in an early indoor bike or swim session. Or sometimes just sleep in. It’s holidays!
In vacation i run on the beach!
Most often our vacations with kids are some kind of cycling with a bit of relaxing and we sleep sometimes in the hotels but most often in the campsites so I can’t take much gear. I ride more but cut back on running. Shift in activities and new surroundings are always pleasant.
On vacation, I train as usual so I can continue to eat.
Recent vacations have been destination races so we run and then rest and enjoy
My husband and I love to take cycling tours to learn a new city! We are always looking for a good run that ends near a great cafe too ;)
Definitely get some running in. Maybe some light weight lifting if a gym is available.
My past few vacations were all about sports – winter vacation-week for skiing, spring vacation-fortnight for cycling camp. Just lying down and doing nothing is not for me.
If I’m somewhere warm I love to swim in the ocean parallel to a sandy beach and see how far along the shore I can get before heading back for a nice cool drink in the cafe! ☀️
Discovering new trails and paths, the Finex 3 would help me from getting lost
Running early on the morning while the wife and the kids are still sleeping, so I don’t steal from their vacation time
Just some running :)
On real vacation when I can be as lazy as I can I just make some freshing runs.
Actually I am on a short vacation and my real achievement is that I could convince my honey to start jogging on a regular basis.
Not much training but I try and find a bike to hire even if its just a city bike to expand my ride map
What’s a vacation?
Slow runs to explore the neighborhood, maybe a swim in the pool or lake, but mostly chasing my kids ;)
If I am on a long vacation I will jog “for the hell of it”. That means exploration and taking in the scenery and people, and this is by far my preferred way of winding down rather than lie on a sandy beach roasting away.
I have to say though that, as an early riser, I have quite some time to kill during early mornings. As I travel frequently, these early morning runs are the only time I can take time off from the family and not feel guilty. My runs then become “me time” and are usually incorporated into some training plan.
I cannot wait for my son to join me on any of these, I have no hope unfortunately for my wife nor my daughter :-(
I have taken a vacation because I’m saving up for a Fenix 3. If I win, then I can take a vacation :)
vacation is swim and run and dessert!
booze!
Normally I train a bit more since it’s easier to fit it into the schedule – no work, no kids to take to training, etc. On the other hand I miss out on my one-hour daily bicycling commute which in itself is a quite OK workout.
So maybe it evens out in the end…
I try to rest the mind and body and only go for long walk sessions
Typically do shorter, faster runs to make sure I don’t overheat, with long distance cycling thrown in to have a good explore of the area
I let the place decide what kind of training i do. Generally running is the easiest but will prioritize swimming if we’re at the beach.
Half of my vacations seem to include a race…even if not initially figured into the plans! Otherwise, it’s press on with training. Best ones are when me and the wife are in similar training cycles, so we can get in a few rides or runs together.
Always plan to do some runs on vacation, end up walking lots and eating lots, lol
Biltong and beers!
Walk Walk and Walk…. We do lots of exploring on our vacation and end up doing a lot of walking.
Idk, sometimes I run through the city and the I climb some stairs, on my city I usually climb 750 up and down
My training this year is to prepare for vacations that involve climbing Kilimanjaro and Colorado 14rs. So… Vacation means ramping up for more ‘training’.
beach runs and swim in the sea!
Vacation is time for the family. For now for me that means less activity. Maybe later the kids can join!
For me, holidays is the best time for a workout. I got more time and definately increase my workout time.
Running and swimming. Rarely cycling.
Bye
Ale
In my Vacation I go to the Beach with My Family , My Wife and 2 son First I Run in the beach and then enter in the Water with My Family to pass the Day Happy
That depends. Vacation training is driven by what is easily available at the venue. I usually do quite a bit of research to land in a venue that offers all I seek. When all else fails. Run baby! Run more! And vacation doesn’t usually mean my diet changes much. But wine becomes the salt for my food!
i try to keep on the go by running, biking, and swimming so that I can enjoy the food and beverages guilt free!
I try to follow through on any schedule I had, and I plan my running route in advance if possible–and I always run outside! Best way to get the lay of the land around a new city. Only difference from home is I carry a cell phone, and add a roadID shoe pocket to hold a small map and my hotel key.
If I’m visiting family, I might ride with my Dad instead of running (he keeps a spare bike).
Holidays normally include hiking, so that’s pretty god training for me. Other than that, swimming as often as possible…
Usually ends up being running and bodyweight exercises, but sometimes I’m able to borrow a bike or hop on a trainer.
On vacations, I bring my running and swimming gear!
I can run in the mornings and if there’s a pool, I’ll swim.
I keep the training the same.
Running several times and hitting the swimming pool a bit. But more importantly, trying to spend more time with the kids!
Enjoy your holiday, Ray.
Push it more (running) but no races – too disruptive. Enjoyed the vacation swim around the atol today.
Training during vacation?!?!? It’s a mix between running and happy hour!!!
I swim whenever I can!
Training is training, regardless if on vacation or not. It’s a mix of running and cycling with some fresh air between my ears ;-)
Build a holiday around an event!
Tapper for race…race…relax was best weeks holiday i had!
Less biking for sure but running pretty much stays the same.
ususally go home to India. Mothers cooking. No chance to train.
If it’s a beach vacation, then I will run on the beach in the morning. Otherwise, I will go to the hotel fitness centre and either run on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike.
I always run and if possible find a pool to swim in or a bike to rent or borrow.
I do want I can only not to suffer too much after vacation… Typically 50% of the normal routine
