It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

Vacations are a by-product of my racing and training runs. Best way to see the sights by running it.
Lots of walking, mostly from the hotel to the beach, and from the beach to the bar ;)
run, eat, repeat :D
Most of my vacation is destination based, with the destination being wherever the races my wife and i have entered are. Training wise there’s usually a bit of a taper before and recovery after so the trips are usually extended by a day or so before and after to see the sights.
I’m primarily a trail runner, so if I’m on vacation I’ll usually try to to scope out some new trails to explore. All tourists and travelers explore the city, but fewer spend time exploring the nature surrounding it. If I don’t have running shoes I’ll try to get some hikes in.
Exploring new trails.
I like running on trails when I’m on vacation and Ice cream afterwards :)
On vacation I explore new segments that I can beat for strava ;-)
My vacation usually is on seaside! So the trainig is swiming little bit and runing! Mostly barefoot running!
I try to run while on vacation, but it does not often seem to work that way.
I bring my 305 for running when traveling without kids. Swim with no tracker.
A lot less when traveling with my three kids, but it depends on vacation location :)
We use marathons as an excuse to travel so that’s our vacation. Otherwise when travelling for work & vacation, try to stick to the schedule or at least a training run every other day….
Trying to finally win this strava group leaderboard that I can never win when I’m working :)
Long rides with hill repeats. Always.
running, hiking, eating!
Depends on vacation, but still running, trail running , more and higher hiking
Easy light runs and swims (if available) followed by whatever is in the snack bar!
During vacation, I try to run at least once if not twice keeping to the same training schedule for that week. If I can find a bike I’ll do that too…
I live in the Yukon. Here we do a bit of everything. I would use it for road riding, mountain biking, back country hiking, day hikes, paddling and some trail running. The Fenix 3 would be pretty incredible for all of these things. :-)
Turn down the training and focus on being a kid with my kids.
We usually find a good set of stairs or even a playground and just have FUN while we’re on vacation.
I run more or less the same amount during vacation, just in different places and more often with family, it’s a great way to explore new areas
Ice cream definitely wins. But I always scout a route for running.
I push as hard as I can. This is the time to go for a longer rides that can’t be driven during the terribly hectic weeks.
I will train as much as possible since i have more time to do it
Watch the waves of the beach :)
My favourite vacation is my late summer week away at a rented cottage in the Gatineau Hills near my home. I actually typically crank up my running and do roughly ~100K up and down the hills. When I come back, I have bionic legs. Perfect training for my fall marathon.
Press on cause who needs a vacation from training. It’s work that needs to get left behind!
Depends on where I am – running, swimming if there’s a pool, maybe some online workouts.
Take/rent a mountain bike or road bike with me depending on the environment and just do some fun stuff.
Easy runs/rides to explore new areas. Enjoy your vacation!
I do not train on vacation! :-)
On holiday there is nothing better than a long run by the sea in our sweet French Brittany!
I try to find a trail nearby and run it. Barring that, any road with hills will do. Must work off the Ice Cream and bonbons… ;-)
Usualy easy run just to stay active and have time to enjoy the day!
7 Minute workout and some sprint workouts if I can do so
Beer bicep curls
Use the hotel gym for strength training, bike spin, or treadmill for run unless there is a great place to run outside, but will hike in place of all this if it is vacation that has some good trails
i try to train the same while I’m on vacation if for no reason other than to make all off the people who follow me on strava or gain connect jealous. Last fall I swam 1.8 miles in the carribean much to the amusement of everyone at sandals.
On vacation normally a slow run in the morning.
I typically train a bit more on vacation than I normally do. I suppose that’s since I have more free time available.
Shorter runs (with some strides or fartlek if intensity is needed), and plenty of hiking and walking.
When I was growing up my bike was my escape – I used to take my clunky K-Mart 24-speed mountain bike and get lost in the local forestry for hours. I discovered so many awesome things in nature that way. Nowadays I love to use my vacation to combine my road cycling training with discovering new paths – paved and unpaved – in new places. Nothing better than that!
I always take my running shoes (somethimes two!) with me on vacation but rarely use them :-)
I usually keep up on my running routine but my other cross training activities take a back seat to just spending time with family, eating and relaxing.
Always have some running on vacation. I like to run in different places, so, can’t miss a chance to run in vacation to. But no bike at all :)
I tend to run mostly, it is a great way to get in a bit of sightseeing.
Running is my sport , aways !
I find awesome trails to run :P
Usually only time for a walk.
I usually switch to competitive eating mode at buffets, but depending on where I am I like to go for a run to explore the area.
If I’m on a real vacation, this means I at the seaside so usually I would be running on the Shores
I try to keep training. When we go to the beach. I always get in an ocean swim try and try to get some runs in. But there is also more eating
Work training in on vacation. Always a great reason so explore local trails and to take in the sites from a different perspective.
Long morning runs.
If in the middle of training for a race, I will do MY BEST to not mess up my schedule. But usually have no problem getting up way before anyone notices that I even left and already came back ;-) Long Runs are harder to get in.
I try and stick to my training regiment but usually ends up as a mix of slightly less running and slightly more eating than planned!
I love to run in the mountains and can’t do that at home. So thats what I do whenever I am on vacation.
No plan – just exploring the whereabouts
I try to plan my holiday’s after a big race so that I can enjoy relaxing without feeling guilty and just spend some quality time with my wife.
The sports bit of my perfect holliday fits in perfectly with our regular location in the south of France. I bring bike, shoes and swimshorts to Barcares and enjoy my swims in the sea, running in the middle of the pine trees and cycling the first bits of Pyrinees (les midi). So I basically double my efforts on holliday, with all this time and all these locations waiting for my effort…;)
continue running all vacation. Try to add in a swim if I can
I usually train less on my vacation, but try to do something. I might also race.
In the summerhollidays, swimming and hiking and mountainnike trips
Thanks for the giveaway! I love running on vacation, as it gives me a great chance to explore new areas and see the sights!
Cut way back
Kickboxing and ultra running! Hell yeah!
For the next short vacation its going to be ski touring in the French Alps on the long 1. Mai weekend.
My training during vacation is all mental training of not overeating.
I always have grand plans of doing lots of running while on vacation. I take all my gear. And then, I sleep late, read books in the sun and drink after dinner.
Walking, walking, and more walking…. but I vote for comment #23 to win :)
I usually just run. But, not on any schedule, just for fun.
Kayaking when possible. Otherwise biking/hiking.
Cycling all the day. Will never do a vacation without my bike:-)
Hit the road. Great way to see the sights.
If I’m training for an A race, then I’ll pretty much stick to schedule, otherwise it’s just a great way to see whatever city I’m in.
My training during vacaiont is moring runs on the beach.
My exercise on vacation eases up. My family thinks I’m supposed to spend time with them … not riding or running all day. A few morning runs while they get ready.
I keep the same mileage but no weight training while on vacation.
I might not adhere to a specific training regiment but I always continue to run and do core work.
Walking, walking and sometimes some more walking.
While on vacation I have more time to train and better weather too, so I usually double my training.
Running as much as I can.
Hi Ray,
I usually cut nown my training to just running/jogging with someone in the family.
Ride as many miles as I can, and replace the calories with cake!
All training and racing is a holiday
Renting a bike and exploring and sight seeing while training!
Running and swimming… :)
Holidays are often races.. But if not it tends to be running – never go anywhere without running shoes.
Morning runs and swimming in the afternoon, preferably on the seaside.
trying to keep up with trainings, but sweet things are welcome as well :P
Usually I wake up early not to disturb my wife who likes to sleep longer! Then a good run or bike ride is imposed!:)
Then together fitness centre session together, alternating one day to other cardio and strength!
Depending the season sometimes just like a lizard, relaxing and enjoying a sunbathe while exploring the city we’re in!
I continue running but my training is quite chaotic during vacation.
Train on vacation .. never, but sometimes enjoying the vacation will involve some running (beach, wooded trails, etc), swimming, and (mostly mountain) biking.
I would stop training but keep active by swimming, snorkeling, hiking, bicycle rides slow pace, eventually subscribing to a local running event or triathlon.
I pack my running shoes and clothes telling myself I will do morning runs along the beach and watch the sunrise. Buuuut… I just end up sleeping in late and wallow in food and drinks instead.
Usual running is all city running in Dublin Ireland with some trails when I can get them. Holiday running is soooo much much better- I am lucky to have an annual 3 week stay in the very far west of Ireland in Dunquin- Dingle, Co Kerry. I do looooong runs along the clifftop path close to the ocean edge- see googles streetview at link to goo.gl – the cliffpath is along the edge -Google earth only lets me show the nearby road which is not visible when you are on the cliffpath so you feel totally alone in the wilderness with the Ocean one side and Mountains on the other . Next stop America 3000 miles away – its incredibly beautiful. I also do some serious hillwalking using my Fenix 2 to track looong treks that i can upload to link to gpsies.com and create Google earth flyover. The Fenix is the only watch I have ever had that allows me to do that because of the fantastic battery which has no problem tracking distance, route etc for 10 hours and more. Would make great use of the Fenix 3 if i win:)
I pack my gear with the best intentions and then …….
Love the opportunity to run somewhere different that the other 50 weeks of the year. usually go online and search for information from runners in the area to find some special trails and sights to see. Don’t try to run any more or less, but rarely look for a race like I used to actually plan vacations around in my 30’s and 40’s……
