It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

I always try to do between 4 – 7 km of running exercise each time. And about 3 – 4 exercises a week…. When it comes to vacation time it’s the same, but looking for nice places instead of the closer ones. Also I switch more often to my MTB bike.
On vacation swimming and cycling and for recovery lots of food!!!
i try to run every day, throw in as many hikes as I can, and maybe squeeze in a weights session or two.
I always plan to keep up with the regular training schedule, and I always end up relaxing (and eating) instead.
I always rowingbike on vacation. Very nice bike for a total workout :-)
Cheers,
Joep
press on as per schedule AND eat ice cream/bonbons
running, surfing or whatever can pump my heartbit up
I usually start off obnoxiously well intended that in going to stick to the schedule. I obsess for a few days, fall off the wagon on day 3, and decided for the rest of the vacay it’s nothing but ez runs and cycling ventures so I can ‘take it all in.’
long distance run or trail running
Easy walks and short rides to explore new places!
Always double up everything !
Vacation =away from work = 10hours extra available for swim , cycle, run , eat , sleep per day.
Happy Holidays evey1 !
I usually keep training, but without the alarm ringing at 5am
Walking and eating
Always take trainers and swimming jammers, whether I get to use them depends on how many ice creams I buy the family!
Running and doing some static workouts just before breakfast.
Great stuff! The Fenix is an awesome platform.
My vacations usually hinge around something like a climbing trip, cycling event, or hiking – I stop training and execute. But, in the down time, probably running since it’s the most portable type of training. :)
My vacation training usually consists of starting a 5 mile run on the hotel treadmill, but getting off after 2 miles because the room is over 100 deg. Then I resort to 12 Oz curls and heavy donut lifting.
I normally go on vacation with the intent of keeping with my training, however I will most likely miss 2-4 workouts.
When on a city trip I walk around as much as possible. And on a beach trip I just do what comes up to my mind like volleyball, swimming, surfing, running or just lying in the sun :)
I’m just relax.
Vacations with family are always carefully planned wrt optimizing training without them knowing it. :) Hotels are chosen based on training facility. Luckily they sleep long and I get up early to workout. Any cycling will do. If crisis, I run hard intervals.
Vacations are very rare…cycling while on vacation would be great I imagine.
Due to leg injury unable to participate in a local 5 mile race, only can handle pool swimming a few miles this weekend
Vacations are sooooo boring no matter where we go or what we do that over the years I have turned them into workout extravaganzas. I especially like to use vacation locations to add running in deep sand and up rocky mountain trails, biking up steep pot-holed cobblestone mountain roads, and swimming in shark-and-jellyfish-infested cold rough seas to my usual training routine. Eventually the pain and exhaustion gets severe enough to distract me from the agony of relaxation.
stick to the plan even when on vacation. bring the bike with me if needed.
Short 5km-er
vacation
extra training…(thats my idea of vacation)
Vacations are usually a time for rest, unless I need to take a bike as an excuse to avoid the family! ;-)
Long run around whichever city/locale I’m visiting, especially targeting the important sights!
At least one run in every new city I visit.
Hi technically speaking I don’t do any races and I don’t train during my holiday. I’m a passionate skier and occasional backcountry free rider. In order to make the most out of these vacations I have to be physically fit. I try to achieve this by regular; mountain biking, road cycling, trail running, slacklining, bouldering and indoor ski training sessions. So I guess my vacation is the race I’m training for each year.
Does walking count?
I use vacations as a time to get in more rides/runs than i usually can. As the mileage goes up so does the relaxation.
Swimming of course…It’s my vacation routine along with hiking…
While everyone else is just chilling on the beach, I’m doing laps :)
I normally run and ride the stationary bike at the hotel.
Cut back and fill up. It’s vacation. Though there’s usually tons of walking and swimming involved so it’s not a complete disaster. :)
I take vacation seriously and try to stay off my feet :)
Running, typically 4-5 miles per morning, depending on the night before.
Although the intent is to always follow my schedule things don’t usually go as planned so I kick back relax and enjoy my time off.
usually bring optimism in the luggage with workout gear but it usually does not get much usage on vacation!
Training normally goes out the window on vacation. Typically walk or hike a lot when checking out new places.
I put as much effort into it as any other day… Which is generally not enough.
Trailrunning or hiking
Early morning run. It’s great checking out new routes and scenery.
Running 4-5 miles is usually doable. Failing that, 45 min on the treadmill.
Hiking and mountaineering where location and time permit, and running when I am in a more urban setting.
I normally run and do body weight workouts but mostly run.
Vacation = recovery. Outside of letting the body heal I do 20-30 minutes of core work daily vacation or not. Back surgery brings new awareness to what it takes to continue training.
Wake up early in the morning and take advantage of a running or cycling to visit the neighborhood of our rent !
while on vacation my training tends to be more spontaneous with no scheduled runs.
it depends on the vacation – when I’m off with just my immediate family or a small group I cut back substantially. But if there’s a good group of us, I try to slip out for an hour or two here and there. I mostly stick to running and swimming in that case though.
Mountains are my vacation s,so hiking & skiing are my things.
During my holiday, I use my free time to either do cycling in the morning and then relax in the afternoon or schedule a swim / running session.
Holiday means more free time for sports no ? :D
No vacation is complete without at least one relaxing run. Gotto run! Love the feeling of running in a new place -whether trail or roads. Exploring new routes, terrains is great fun! Usually find destinations where I could run and swim. My running gear and swim suit make entry into my baggage first :)
Run & Swim as much as i can ;)
On vacation we may do some light running, hiking, or trail running depending on where we are. Which is almost always followed up by Beer. I have the Fenix 2 which I purchased after your review. I would love to upgrade to the Fenix 3.
I practice recovery on my vacations!
I usually try to pack my trainers and get out for a run or two. If only to offset the holiday food!
Actually, me and my partner haven’t been on any vacation during the last 4 years due to illness and a lot of other trouble I don’t want to fatigue you with.. BUT in may we finally get to go to the USA for 3 weeks.. To see my brother and hsi family, with my boyfriend, my mom and my other brother.. it’ll be a family reunion in the USA and guess what!! Four of us run!! So guess we’ll be running our buts off in Colorado this year, Yihaa!!
I like to try and keep it up during vacation.
I like to make my peace with the mountains, with a mix of hiking and trail running where possible. And of course fueling up on the local cuisine is always a great way to recharge the old batteries.
On vacation; I only run three times a week, weekends and wednesday.
i prefer cross-fit.
YES!! I get to go to the USA for the first time in my life! Okay, it is with all my inlaws for a family reunion, but, hey, I’m going!!! And we are gonna run with the four of us somewhere close to (or in??) the Rocky Mountains! So we are training now to be as fit as possible once we get there! It’s gonne b so much fun, running in the USA, how cool is that! A new watch to see what in the hell we have been up to would be top of the world!!!
cross-fit and swimming.
No plans usually, but the occasional run or swim when the opportunity presents itself.
No runs, just vacation!
I travel a lot and like to know new places running!!
Thanks
I like exploring runs on vacation.
I tend to push a little harder while in vacation. Running and long distance biking are my main activities these days.
Long runs (no intervals). But the most important part of vacation-training is to try new energy source: there’s no good vacation without good food. Sophie
Unfortunately my vacations end up also being a vacation from fitness
Running in the afternoons
Vacation usually is to a soccer tournament involving one of the kids but, also in tails one new bike route found on Strava Heatmap in the uncharted area thanks to DC Rainmarker
usaly just run on the beach, and trx:))
I get up early to continue training (running). Also, I like exploring new places on runs so it works out!
I run in every location that I visit. Whether it be the mountains, the savanna or the city. At least 5 miles, and I always LiveTrack!
I usually just run. It makes packing light a lot easier than when I try to take a bike with me.
On vacation i may swimming, cycling or fishing depends of my frame of mind.
Vacation is my time to go on longer runs. The family sleeps in and I push myself further and faster.
I run free on vacation, no time, no mp3, no watch.
No run for me on vacation, Just Eat!!! jaja
Recipie for vecation training: No training planned, can’t resist the urge, overdo training, feel like crap.
I always keep up the running…sometimes more than when I am not on vacation as I have the time. On occasion (and location permitting) I will rent a bike. Last time was when I rented a tri-bike on the big island of Hawaii and biked the ironman course.
Usually just running. When in San Diego I ran on Festiva Island. Later found out the first ‘modern’ triathlon was held there. So I got that going for me.
I just try to do a DCR-style ‘runaround’ each day.
I always book hotel with a gym. And l love to run, so i can pin down every place on a map
Usually just easy running.
Running for sure. It’s fun to get lost and find cool stuff!
This year vacation I spent with my wife on Canary Islands road biking all days. It is not about planning a training on our vacation, but planning vacation to do some nice activity outdoors. Only way how to distinguish training from usual outdoor activity for us is wearing a HRM. :-)
Beach. Cocktails. Sun. Repeat!
run before the rest of the people wake up
Holidays or not I am keeping my normal Schedule for that particular day.
Vacation is downtime although after a couple days I usually have to at least go for a run..
Running, fitness and ice creams!
I usually check strava for segments to try nearby wherever I am.
When I’m on vacation, I usually stick to running or swimming. Transporting a bike is cumbersome in addition to finding bike routes or a club to tag along with. It is just easier to pack a pair of shoes, goggles, and shorts. I also do some yoga or dynamic stretching and body weight work.
Chasing the kids is usually enough training for the holidays…
During holidays I have to try out the local challenges, be it running, hiking, swimming or cycling. Life is too short to sit on a beach for any extended period, and although I wouldn’t really classify these activities as traing per se, the best way to “see” where you are, is to keep moving, exploring and meeting people.
Adding a new GPS track to my Google Earth globe is my holiday souvenir.
