It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

Summer time here, so either hiking or swimming
Vacations are all about family, friends, indulging and of course S/B/R.
Learn to swim, and hopefully get me to join triathlon races one day
Love big city holidays, where I always bring my Hoka’s.
Running is a great way to get to now new places…
I like to go on runs around the city on vacation, since it’s a great way to see the city or the surroundings. I did take a free muay thai class in Chang Mai once, and it was an awesome workout.
i play handball, on vacation I go with my father on some of is swimming training.
Generally just pack running gear and hope to fit something in. Although the gear often goes unused.
Use the vacation for active recovery. Time a heavy training block in the weeks before.
Triathlons of course are the best to train for on vacation, It’s half the reason to travel. You get to see the area like a local athlete would and stumble across new things no guidebook can tell you.
Vacation means fun, so no suffering! ;-)
On vacation i still run. I only cut back on cycling. And i use it fo additional trail running if possible
Vacation normally means go to the beach with my wife and I can swim during 1h in the sea :-)
Triathlons of course. There is no better way to see the local athlete training grounds. Even better if you can combine it with a race.
Try to fit in a run and something fitting to the location eg. Kayaking
I really like to run in new places, so I just run my normal training. It’s also a great way to explore your destination.
I usually just do a couple of runs and maybe go for a swim.
I love training on holiday. During the busy working week it can sometimes feel like yet another chore to squeeze in, but on holiday it’s always a pleasure – even when it hurts. I take my bike with whenever I can, or run when I can’t. Typically I get up and out early, get a few hours riding in (preferably in the mountains) before coming back in time for the rest of the family rising. I especially love early spring or autumn holidays when I generally get to ride in much nicer conditions than I’m experiencing at home.
Open water swim woot
evening run, experiencing the city by night
link to strava.com
a long run to find out where exactly the hotel was located again 8)
I usually run early in the morning, before the family get up, I tend to go exploring rather than flat out speed and find some interesting places. I’ve had some great sunrise experiences in different countries!
Road cycling on daytime and some bar hopping on nighttime
late night swimming:)
Take my bike every where!
Vacations are a chance to ride more.
Easy runs while on vacation. You can see so many different things while running.
Jogging and treadmill running.
If it is for a full week during my run training season, I generally cut down but have it planned in (move a step back week up or back a week if needed.). If it is only for a few days I may get a run or a swim in but if I am not able, I don’t fret it.
Vacation is always a nice time to do long slow runs to explore new places.
treadmill running at hotel.
cut back and do only easy runs if possible.
training continues but eating intensifies.
Whats a vacation without training? As a triathlete I typically shift my training to mostly runs based on location. We like to go to Maine and I love running the carriage trails in Acadia Park. I also try to get a massage as part of the “vacation training”. Enjoy your vacation.
Try to continue my regular running training.
swim,bike,trail run.
Well mostly cycling, but not on my race bike but on a ‘regular’ city bike. Jep, wherever the Dutch will go, you will see them on a bike!
Easy runs on vacation with a litle bit of bonbons.
Vacation is the best time to get out on the trails after a leisurely morning and run around all day with the dog, definitely full speed ahead.
Just easy sightseeing runs when I’m on vacation.
I do a lot of distance training
Usually weekends are for long rides. But in summer they are mostly occupied with races.
Vacation is the time where I can chose the timing of my running since the timing of my running is limited to early mornings on a normal working day. I also have the freedom to run different routes away which makes my running more interesting. As a result my running pace improves significantly and in addition I end up running longer distance without the worry of getting late for the office.
I stack my long runs into the preceding week to give me a buffer for travel time, then try to press on. If my family isn’t with me, I train even harder!
Ice Cream may win over the training in some cases.
Stick to the schedule and add ice cream and chocolate bon bons.
I’m all about enjoying my vacation, as I’m primarily running at the moment, I love to get out and explore where I’m staying with a run. I don’t try and do any hard sessions, just what ever I feel like, but i usually feel better with some exercise. Certainly if im staying near a beach, catching a few body waves is a must. I always make sure however that I splurge here and there and go into relax mode but I don’t want to go so far as to unravel weeks of hard work.
Long sightseeing runs :-)
Early morning run by the sea, afternoon swim, a beer or two during break :)
Cut back and enjoy the sights!
Have trainers, will travel (and maybe my speedos too :)
Usually do a longish trek and then relax for the rest of the vacation. This year planning to add in some short runs!
When I am on vacation I prefer to relax.
Normally up the cycling and swimming, and as it is typically in France Wine and Croissants, oh and Pain au Raisin :-)
Sadly, on vacation, training goes to the bottom of the list for me! I admire you to manage to cram as much in your schedule, vacation or not!
Running and eating ice cream, on hot summerdays :-D
Running with the distance determined by what I am training for. Nothing like running in a shirts and short after being bundled up for an outdoor Chicago run.
After running/cycling/lots of moving about in general – we do scream for ice cream.
Long runs
Depends on the equipment I take but usually stay on running and swimming schedule.
I’m on Variation right now in deia/mallorca/spain and following My Routine just in the tramuntana hills.
I always continue training. I just pick a downtime in the vacation and hit the streets then! It’s always fun to run on new roads as well.
I usually keep up with running and swimming, and if I can rent a bike, I’ll go for a spin too. I try to do something every other day while on vacation to keep the engine running.
The best vacations are cycling vacations. Then u can eat as much gelato as you want.
This quote says it all… “The only thing harder then a morning run is a day without one.”
Depends on the holiday. I always try to keep up the routine, and if the place allows, do some extra. Next month Mallorca, so that should allow for some extra cycling.
Well, it depends on the location but I sure better go for outdoor activities anyway. Trecking, running (mostly trails if possible), skiing, cycling (trails too), funboarding, diving, paddle … And of course discovering new activities as an opportunity comes in.
multi-activity watches are a great tool to tell your friends about where to go/do (or not, lol).
I plan my vacations TO run or hike! Here comes Iceland half marathon and Mt Washington hike!
Depends, but I try to spend my off-time hiking and/or drinking beer. So no training schedule.
It turns into walking and sightseeing
Cycling is what I do.
On vacation I like to run in an unknown city and explore the streets.
I run on vacation…it’s simple for packing. But I’ve started open-water swimming, too. Of course that requires a vacation near open water but that’s not too hard to do. :)
I love running to see a new place & it’s so easy to pack sneakers. This past new year, I also had my first attempt at bike touring in Tasmania… It was type II fun at it’s best!
On vacation me and the missus visit our small wineyard. Do a lot ok hiking, conquering some volcanic hills. Every morning we take a 30 km route to the nearest mall, in the evenings when the beach is free to visit the missus does a mile in the water, i usually do galf of that (kinda hate swimming ;-) )
Vacation means hiking. As a result there is no time for running, or the knees have to rest.
Besides trips its time for more active bike riding compared to almost exclusive running during the year.
i like to head to the mountains and get some different type of riding and hiking.
I bring all the gear with me with the best intentions, but it always manages to sit neatly in the bag. :)
Given I select my vacations with a local run in mind I suppose its all business!
Running, biking, hiking and swimming with my four year old daughter in tow. All depends on where we are. I need to be moving and so does she. Then add in a healthy dose of beer and food!
I love to run at sunshine time. Best moment of the day
On vacation, I like to get up before everyone else and go for a run to see the sights in the early morning — ideally before anyone is really awake.
Vacations usually involve some diving or trekking or both when possible with a little training on the side and some margaritas ;-)
I usually run and lift weights on vacation
I love running on holiday (or “vacation”, if you prefer). I like having the GPS map of a far away place on my training log, and I like getting to know a city that way, too. I have some great memories of runs in Lyon, small Japanese villages, and through the Sapporo Yukimatsuri. It’s an essential part of the holiday experience for me.
I always have high hopes to run a bunch, but 90% of the time, my schedule chops in half. The other half is merrly replaced with chocolates & bon bons.
gotta run. Not a holiday without a run.
Vacation is when I pack down my bike and go somewhere with lots of mountains. Then I try to squeeze in as many km as possible and stopping once in a while for a coffee break. At the moment I’m stuck on the trainer though since I just crashed and broke my neck..
Run on the beach!
Vacation starts with a exploratory run, cycle, or swim that at first is relaxing, then it becomes invigorating. Without even knowing it you are working out while taking in all the sights around you. The boring everyday routes that you have been accustomed too have been shattered by these new experiences.
Eat, have fun and do some running if I can while on vacation …
I’m pretty much at the ice cream and chocolate bon bons stage for vacations. I mean, it is a vacation after all. Just have to work harder later. Although being Australian I don’t actually know what a chocolate bon bon is. I’m going to have to pay a visit to Mr. Google :-)
As always, it depends.
When hiking, no workout other than hiking.
When on ski vacation, just skiing.
When on other types of vacation I try to squeeze in some sort of training, running, gym or swimming.
Vacation plans always include that early morning weekend long run… Doesn’t matter if it is just a weekend getaway or a 2 weeks overseas family vacation… I just cannot pass on the opportunity to discover were the locals run. Sightseeing and lasting memories are guaranteed on top of the usual benefits of a long run. It’s a no brainier.
I keep on with the prescribed program as much as possible.
No running but maybe swimming while on vacation.
On vacation I always take my running shoes with me to continue to train and I try to stick to my training program as much as I can. But I take the opportunity to run in other places and to discover the area if I don’t know it yet. I do that even when I am on a sailing trip.
Easy running early in the morning since it’s usually too hot during the day…
Food, rest, beer and a couple of run and swim in between.
I always bring my running shoes. It’s great to run in new places and to discover somewhere new. New terrain is always good for training. Plus if I get out early then I can spend the rest of the day relaxing.
I love to run in places I have never been, so while on vacation I will just run and enjoy seeing new stuff.
I look around google maps for some pleasant scenery, then plan a course on Garmin connect and push it to my FR410 so I don’t get too lost! If I’m training for a race, I make every effort to get that mileage in (even if that means waking up hours before the family)!
On vacation I usually try to run every morning some easy low mileage, just to keep the metabolism going strong. Mainly because vacation means I will eat like someone who just got off of a desert island. I might even bathe in a vat of Nutella if available. Add copious amounts of beer. Rinse. Repeat.
