The DCR’s on Vacation Fenix3 Giveaway!

IMG_7145

It’s giveaway time!  Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.

This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training.  It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)

So how do you enter?

Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation.  Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule?  Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?

The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training.  This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap.  And then you can get it with or without the HR strap.  Totally your choice!

As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway.  Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.

Thanks for reading!

The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time.  Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

Typically we do short vacations of 5-7 days. I do a lot of training before preferably also a race. Vacation is really VACATION and concentrates around family trips and ice-cream ;-). After this I always feel kind of guilty and extra motivated to pick up training again towards the next race and following vacation. Works like a charm for me for last year’s.

  2. Toni

A real vacation means no training! Kick back and do fun stuff.

  3. Francesco Arfilli

on vacation I usually run to the next bar for a beer :-)

  4. Zoltan

    I try to run 10 km. :)

  5. Diego Marcos

On vacation I get higher quality sessions because I get much better sleep.

  6. stijn slaets

I find that running is a great way to check out some scenery and work on your condition at the same time.

  7. Peter

Running is the a sport panacea, you can do (nearly) everywhere. So I do that in the mornings, other option is swimming, either hotels or a sea. The rest depends on the location, weather, local situation.

There were locations, where this was difficult – equatorial Africa, there I tried to do bodyweight exercises.

I believe going forward yoga/pilates is the answer.

  8. jose angel

My BIKE comes with me, do relaxing 2-3h tours around destinations

  9. Gede Adhyatma

    No training on vacation! Lol

  10. Kaeschowa

On vacation I use my bike more often. After work its mostly running…

  11. Crispin

It’s always fun planning and trying out new routes and exploring new areas. But it is also supposed to be a holiday, So if the weather’s not foul, up early and a nice easy 10k-ish pre-breakfast run. If the weather’s foul (or the previous night was a heavy one), defer the run and plan the next one instead.

  12. Dan

Looking forward to swimming in the sea and coastal path runs

  13. Scott Millns

Training rides become exploring rides. Out into the countryside of where I’m holding and experiencing the local roads and sights.

  14. paul appleyard

Hired a bike for 4 days going to scale some mountains but hopefully some relaxation time as well.

  15. Stefan

On vacation only running, i don´t take my bike with me.

  16. Martijn

Vacation means nothing but training! Last couple of years it’s always been driving to France (Alpes, Pyrenees, Provence) with a group of friends and biking for a week, with the occasional run. No swimming though…

  17. Raphael

Thanks for that give away ! ;)

  18. Richard

My holidays are normally mountain bike adventures, so I try to do all my training in advance ( but it doesn’t always work out that way

  19. Ashley Delos Santos

Hitting the trails or just run without worrying any pace, distance, or time. Sometimes leaving the gadgets behind.

  20. Kalman

    Mountaineering :)

  21. Jan

A little running, a little swimming, and lots of resting.

  22. Anjo Kolk

I started my daily running (8 – 25km) on my Summer Holidays in Spain and later did some swimming and biking also to prepare for my first 1/8 triathlon. While doing that training I saw a guy on a bike with an Ironcat shirt. Turns out that I was doing my training on the same course as the full triathlon Ironcat. So I signed up for the Ironcat triathlon and finished it. Now I signed up again for May 16th. Ice creams (with fruit ;-)) are the bonus once a week.
During the wintersport holiday I do some running up the mountain and take a hefe weizen beer as bonus.

  23. chris ho

vacation means be able to practice run in different terrian and weather. mostly short ones because the uncertainty of the path.

  24. Most of our vacations are “racecations” so we’ll be running. Even when we’re having a bit of rare downtime, I like to squeeze in some runs and enjoy different routes or see new places. There are always running shoes in my suitcase!

  25. Chris

I like to jog in every city in the world that i travel to. Last trip i brought along my fenix2 and ran in Paris, Lyon, Nice and London.

  26. Markus

On holiday I simply do everything I do in non-holiday time, meaning I run up & down the hills of my area with my dog.

  27. I try to make use of the different terrain. My usual home ground is flat, so when on vacation I try to do as much hill running as possible, combining with enjoying the scenary.

  28. Sam

Usually try to fit in a run or swim but usually end up just lounging by the pool with ice cream!

    Thanks for a great giveaway

  29. Faheem

Always squeeze in as many runs as I can. If it’s not a bikerace-cation then I usually slack on long rides, only get the occasional bike hire short ride. Lots of recreational swimming. Wish I could be on vacation more often.

  30. Mark

    Run, run, run!

  31. Dmitriy Sudariev

    Cycling w/ a lot of climbing…

  32. Adam Koprowski

I’d try to take advantage of lots of free time and do plenty of easy but long runs, while at the same time exploring wherever I happen to be.

  33. Find the local running shops and try to join a group run! Meeting other runners is one of the best things about running.

  34. Eisen

    Summer is for swimming…:D

  35. Just keep running, trying to run 2-3 times a week to keep my shape and of course relaxing and eating lots deliscious things!

  36. Juan

I used to run and get lost. I come with TRACKBACK of garmin.

  37. On vacation… I run!

  38. Vish

I tend to keep vacations around lean part of the schedule. I try to keep doing simple stretches and a lot of fast walk. Last vacation me and my wife walked roughly around 120-140 km in 2 weeks as iPhone’s pedometer says. But we eat as well. So all through out vacation I keep praying and trying to keep my weight as it was before vacation.

  39. Albert

I use my vacation to find new challenging trail routes!

  40. Aravind A Y

In my case vacation is for work, not for my training :-). In fact with no work related stress, I can focus on the training better.

  41. Lukas

I try to follow usual traning schedule as much as possible

  42. Iakovos Anyfantakis

I just run whenever I feel like it.

  43. Witze Vanhoutte

I always try to go outside the touristic area where I love to do an extreme trail run with lot of up & downhill as this is not possible to find at home. Next I go swimming a lot. The sea/pool is right there and no demoralizing distances have to be covered to the swimming pool. If there is a possibility to bring my bike, I’m daily on it.

  44. J-B Berthomieu

No work equals double time for training! Often shared with the family:)

  45. Robi

I run normal schedule, more morning runs and usually longer distances.

  46. MattB

Usually I’ll take run and swim gear on holiday, and promising myself I’ll be out running before the heat gets unbearable helps to get me up and going for the day!

  47. Vicente

On vacation i usually goes to Pirineos to do hikking and trail running…

  48. Konrad

On vacation I try to run long easy paced distances. Sometimes the nature around is so nice I forgot and accelerate unconciousiously. Having fenix on hand would help me to keep up the slow pace

  49. Mirko

    whatever the schedule calls for!

  50. spagheddy

desperately hungover runs in the morning and a dip in the sea

  51. Martijn

On vacation i try to train according to my triathlon secedule, but, as most of the vacations in serbia iT is almost to hard to even go on a walk! :) as a result my results in races are less than before… I might As Well drink more slivovitsj

  52. Dan barry

    mainly weights at the hotel…bar

  53. Kokoy B

Do a leisure run at my desitination

  54. Kenneth Johnsen

    Mountain biking!

  55. Phil

My vacation is usually on our yacht. So kayaking is my fitness buzz on the lake.

  56. Alessandro

Today a lot of ribs with bier or wine… tomorrow a long hilly run to feel less guilty!

  57. miguel ¡

mostly swimming in the pool! … and ice creams

  58. Poncet

I just love to discover new environments and landscapes. That’s why i like to run, hike and bike everywhere!

  59. ludtoll

vacation is usually training or going to competitions

  60. Arnau

I am preparing for a marathon (Luxembourg) end of May. i’ve just spent two weeks vacations in California Central Valley. The weather there is much different than in Luxembourg, and I usually do a fair amount of trail running. So here i decided to use the conditions (hot weather, flat urban terrain), as well as the jetlag to approach things differently. i’ve worked on speed by doing some threshold and interval training; using the ‘blocks’, it’s easy to get establish a route and then use it to monitor improvements. Then, i used the jetlag to get up early and start around 6 or 7am, which i’m not at all used to do (I usually run after work at night). Finally, i used the relaxed time to enjoy a different environment, and spend time with some family members who wanted to run by doing a few slow runs. Running differently was very enjoyable, and it still kept me on track for May!

  61. Andrew

Normally try to do some long steady bike rides plus some runs with my wife

  62. Ives

I typically skip the running and go hiking instead. Hence the interest for the Fenix3…

  63. Giulio

Usually on vacation I try to do longer training, both biking and running… but I have time to focus also on my diet: it’s bbq time!!!!

  64. Isa

I try to run every second day and to swim every now and then.

  65. Michael

On vacation I train when I feel like it… Rather than following a strict schedule. Try to spend as much time as I can with the kids.

  66. Martin

    Climbing whole day!

  67. florin ungureanu

I record my walks or car routes in vacation. I can’t take the bike, ussually I fly in vacations and renting a bike is not something I consider doing, better a car or in some cases a motor scooter. Important is also to mark locations, and a gps watch is the tool.

  68. Ricky

Generally try to do some, but definitely more adhoc depending on the holiday

  69. Pascal

On vacation, it’s training when I can / want and relax as much as I can / want (oh … and a lot of ice-creams) ;-).

  70. Júlia Peixoto

Profit the husband’s availability to take care of the children on I go on full training mode!!!!

  71. Running, Mountain Biking

  72. diamondadi

I try to keep the original schedule.

  73. Christoph H.

I normally pack my running gear, but in the end I don’t use it as much as I intended.

  74. Ben

On vacation I’ll take my runners and still try and get my usual training runs in. It can be a really interesting way to explore wherever I’m vacationing. Last time it was a camping trip with some great trails to explore.

  75. stephane

Typically I choose my summer vacations to fit in the gaps of scheduled triathlons around Geneva. So it’s a mix of competition, training, and rest.
I have to admit that my wife doesn’t always agree with this way of doing though :-)

  76. benji

Long bike ride, followed by eating a lot of local food.

  77. Exploration run/ride at the destination is what I like most.

  78. Gerald

Normally there will be a bit of running while being on vacation. Running shoes are so easy to pack!

  79. Azli

On vacations, I carboload. Really, it is part of my long-term training schedule.

  80. marcoleman

run each day even holidays ( try to keep doctor away)

  81. Well, my intention is always to do a fair bit, mostly running. But it never ends up as I planned. It all boils down to the domestique. I say that I’m going on a run….she gives me the death stare, we end up doing what she wants. :)

  82. Dennis

I use my vacations as an opportunity to go on interesting long runs, usually sourced from Strava.

  83. DougN

So I can relax my diet on holidays I maintain same training frequency but reduce the mileage and intensity to let my body rest also.

  84. Pat

Generally run to explore the area

  85. Vova

    On vacation I go hiking

  86. Charlie G

Running, only, because it’s hard to find good pools and impossible to travel with a bike.

  87. Stu McMurtrie

Try to combine holiday time and work-out time. Tend to holiday in places (mountains) where I can cycle, walk and climb as required / time / permits… Still enjoy ice creams though! :-)

  88. Panagiotis

I find that the best way to explore a new place is to go running in the mornings! 5k or 10k should do it.. That way you get to come across cool places before even reading about them..

  89. Chris S

    Sleep, eat, sleep, repeat!

  90. Vladimir

    I usually run

  91. Albert Jordana

Loads of running and sea swimming!

  92. James Cheah

Normally as much swimming as possible if the weather suits! Soon be in southern Italy for a wedding where there’ll be running before breakfast, cycling during the day and swimming in the gaps – the couple are both triathletes! :D

  93. Bas

I love to run on vacation! Explore new roads and trails. Love to bike and hike as well, so i do more training when on vacation, followed by some lazy hours :)

  94. Michael D

just love to run on the beach preferably the ocean coast near lacanau france

  95. Carsten

Nothing better to combine the pleasant with the useful when on vacation: I try to follow my scheduled but adjust or extend it based on where I am. Running is one of the best ways of experiencing a new place!

  96. Dave

run for sure. open water swimming whenever possible. rent a bike if on big island. sleep longer. blend of mental recovery and physical challenge.

  97. Peter G

I get a little lazy on vacation but try to always fit in at least one or two runs where ever I am cause I get a little narcissistic and like to see the different locations in my Strava feed.

  98. Chris

doing a training-run in the City I visit. Even better: participating in a Race (e.g. Airport run in Berlin). Thanks!

  99. Max Aulbert

The best Training is the One You enjoy Even when it is over your limit. So i am Training as i want to on my vacation. I mean, Hey, its my vacation. Anything goes!

  100. Ray
