It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

I just up the swimming a huge amount normally in the sea and a small run most mornings. Bike gets missed out altogether.
I usually start the day of with my workout. When not on vacation I workout after work, but on vaca I get up early and do it otherwise I would never do it
Just returned from Mallorca.
Did a lot of cycling with my guys from the club. We also swam and ran some short distances.
But when my family is with me, I normally just ran now and then. No real schedule…it’s holiday then,
I tend to structure vacation around activities. So, I usually get in rides or hiking.
Vacation…….I like to take a break from training.
i love to get out on my bike, get in wooded hikes & runs, and swim once in a while.
I usually try to get out earlier in the morning to run a few miles when my family isn’t doing anything yet. But there typically would be less workouts during vacation than normal.
In general, my training usually suffers while on vacation as a result of time constraints, but an early morning run is a great way to sightsee in any new city!
Usally I cut off on vacations. I do raise the workouts intensity in the weeks before, so the vacation is used to recover.
I would feel very unhappy without my running shoes so they get packed. Besides some relaxed running workouts hiking and a bit of cycling with my hubby to enjoy the scenery.
i usually run, swim (if there is a pool or ocean), and use the hotel gym. a few times i have had a bike, but usually it’s too expensive to transport or rent.
I take a rest from my running workouts but I do a lot of walking or hiking!
On vacation I usually have to cut back on the running. Try to make it up with hiking or other outdoor activities with the family.
I’ll be focusing on run when traveling. It’s the most convenient as I don’t need to pack anything more
Bring running shoes and my old forerunner 410 and head out. Usuall a cyclist, so running kills me a bit on the inside, but worth for the extra mojitos!
Running so I can see the tracks later in Garmin Connect
Run and explore the new areas where I’m vacationing at!
Running to see local sites at an easy base pace. woot woot.
Can the Fenix3 track bonbon consumption?
I run on vacation for more cocktails at the swim up pool bar. I might even wear a heart rate monitor next time!
Training during my vacations mostly involve 1)mountain biking 2) hiking/backpacking and/or road cycling.
I always intend to run, but it rarely pans out.
Never stop on vacation if possible. Usually you have more time to do stuff!
No training on vacation
More of everything! More training, more good fond and more rest!
I slack off and come back rested.
Wake up early, do a quick run and swim a little, nice breakfast and a little nap !
Not really keep up with training. Might do a short 20 minute jog every now and then. And if the vacation is at a higher altitude location..I’m just trying to get some air
Camping and hiking – apparently lugging the family’s supplies is a good form of cross training.
mtb, i change til early morning rides
Barring an imminent race, I usually pare back to a few runs. The runs make me happy while minimizing the packing and planning stress that come with bike and swim gear.
Vacation is family hiking time, bike training are to escape the yougth ( soverigens)
Running early in the morning let me to explore and live better the place of my vacation.
Vacation is resting and relaxation time. Mostly switch to scuba diving and snorkeling.
Time to refill the energybar ;-)
with all the best intentions to continue with the training whilst on holiday, the scream for ice cream always subdues what was intended :)
Vacation is the time for even more running! No pesky work and other obligations taking up time.
Training is fun, holidays just give chance and time to do more of it!
Hi
My holiday plan tend to involve some smaller running trips in area to see the sights and town
Always take some running shoes and goggles. Much easier to fit those in a suitcase than a bike.
wake up. push up, sit ups, one legged squats. any reps you like. city holiday walking sightseeing always use stairs. country hiking local routes near water :) coffee skip the ice cream. enjoy lighter activities. active recovery. love your blog.
Well typically I just shift everything and just relax recover. I will take and do one long run day and follow it up with a little light speed interval workout.
Depends on the vacation. But recently my vacations have been fairly local so I normally stick with the normal routine. Maybe a little more depending on how much free time the kids and wife allow.
I always train on vacation because it gives me new scenery!
Running, mountainbiking and swimming :)
When I’m on vacation, I usually turn to multi sports mode. I’ll have time to run and use my road bike in the same day. Not to mention trailrunning and a swim in the ocean. And ofcourse, as my annual goal is Vasaloppet every March, I use my “skies on wheels” as much as possible. Thanks for a top class blogg.
Hi and first of all…thank you for your insights and in depth reviews!!!
When on vacation, i take along the FR910XT, and switch to less intensive and more fun training… in fact that is what I spend time training for all year long after all : hiking a nice trail to find a take-off spot and fly down with my paraglider… and when there is still snow enough… hiking up with the skis to find some fresh snow and ski my way down.
The nice training time spent all year long finally has a hole different purpose. Enjoy your vacation, and thank you for your reviews.
Hope to win, greetings from the alps.
Always run… Great way to get lost and discover new places!
Swimming and running on the beach …into and out from the ocean!
Vacation is training time, not because it must but because I like it. Usually cycling when available but definitely swimming in pool or ocean and I bring a TRX with me.
I train for the gps mapping purpose only and i can brag about it.
I hike.
Walk some of my old paths end to end to watch the changes in nature.
Maybe pick a random one and go all the way just to see out where it leads
No holiday this year, new baby! Plus training for my first ultra in June.
Running. Because it is easy on vacation. All you need to bring with you are the shoes and shorts. (And maybe a multisport watch if you are lucky enough to have one.)
Run,trail run and hiking on the Pirineos.
My last few vacations have been for chilling, literally. Visiting Minnesota in the winter, I end up spending most of my time indoors enjoying some relaxation.
Vacation time is the training time! Amounts get increased during vacation, all vacations are sports vacations…
On Vacation
cut off the run but still running
eat and have fun with family
it is call a vacation
Rowing (yes indeed, if we go into vacation by car, I take my rower with me), running and some body weight exercises.
Vacation runs are the best. I still have my daily runs but just slower and with more sightseeing involved. Like this spring our annual vacation in pacific grove, my runs included checking out the baby seals, sandy trails along Asilomar, to the municipal wharf. Slower pace for sure, but I get to see and explore more.
I usually don’t get to bike much, but choose running or open water swimming everyday, to allow for more eating!
Swim on holiday is the maximum for me – any more and my wife would kill me! Not being into mutisport she can’t understand the joy of getting up at 0500 every morning to hit the turbo!
I have a ride in the French Alps whenever i’m there
Holiday = Training Camp for me :-)
Exercise is a holiday for me, so anything outdoors in the sun: trail runs, mountain bike routes or strength training outside are usually top of the list.
Vacation? What’s that? ;-)
Most of our vacations are visits with family, and often involve lots of food — so training intensifies to keep the mind sane and the stomach empty!
Usually running. It’s intense, all-terrain, and no equipment. A very efficient and effective way to clear the mind and the belly!
hilly runs
All depends on when the next event is. In NZ Christmas holidays is in the middle of the summer and hence races. If I am training for a race after Christmas I typically do the running and riding as per the plan however the swimming gets scaled back. I am normally at a family holiday place which is in a harbour with strong currents, doesn’t feel the safest. The other complication is fitting in the training around the fishing.
If the race is before Christmas I run sort of and go fishing.
Vacations are from work not from sports :-) Love running in a brand new places.
I continue to train on vacation but I modify my workouts to fit the environment I’m vacationing in. Ends up being something different and enjoyable. If I’m at the beach why not barefoot run on the beach?
On vacation, I lower the pace and increase the duration of my workouts. Preferably I’m out in the woods running, biking or if the season permits it, do cross country skiing which is the most relaxing sport in my oppinion.
Instead of weights I use some of Neila Ray’s workouts, and I up my running since it’s hard to find a studio to let me guest-teach spinning.
Does eating more count as extra training? Cause I totally am the champion of that on vacation.
I try too work out almost every day during vacations. Discover new places and run new exciting tracks. Often a morning activity’s and then spend the rest of the day together with my family or friends.
mountainbiking and surfing.
Who doesn’t want to fill a map with ‘I ran here pins’? :D
My holidays for this year and last have revolved around the Lakeland 50 (last year) and 100 (this year) so best of both worlds – taper week followed by an event in one of the most scenic parts of the UK and then a total rest week with the family to do sight seeing!
What’s not to love?
Depends on the location but I usually concentrate on running.
Ride my bike every day.
Carry on as normal – need to counterbalance all the good living.
On vacation i am on the bike early in the morning because i have more time for my family for the rest of the day
To me vacation means lazy days with good food. Training typically shifts to evening or morning jogs or whatever else I feel like. Point is doing it just for pleasure. Thoughts of quantity and quality aspects are left at home.
I typically run on my vacations. Once a year I go on a running vacation with about 120 other people. Very inspiring! On other occations, running can be a great way of getting to know a new place, whether it is Rome, Italy or Entebbe, Uganda.
If I stay at home, I usually step up training a bit especially with long runs. Those are my favorites.
Hiking, hiking, hiking
I keep training because our vacation falls on the run up to a race that I have trained for twice and not gotten to run. Once was I got the flu the Wednesday before the Saturday race. Last year I injuried my leg. Third times the charm! Or I at least hope so.
Family comes first, but there’s always a moment for sports, like a morning run, a few extra strokes in the pool or when available a bike ride to explore the area.
That all in a comfortable pace.
That way I’m can annoying my ice-cream, without feeling guilty ;)
Running around the area to combine exercise and discovery of different areas. Depending on the location also swimming in the ocean if possible.Haven’t yet done any dedicated cycling vacations though.
I like discover new routes, especially with my bike.
Go to the beach, trekking…
Mostly training my stomach and swim. Watching other people exercise as well
Running in the morning, loads of walking with family to sightseeing and catch some rays (sun doesn’t come out in Ireland too often)
I try to keep it the same (3 times per week), but you know it’s a vacation….
I get out there and run and swim. Focused on enjoying a new environment / scenary rather than ‘training’
If I can fit my running shoes and clothes into my carry-on, then I try to stay to my plan.
dont take the bike if it’s a holiday (wife won’t let me haha) so it’s exploring the destination by foot early morning before see gets up! Also great to have input as to where you stay, reason I say this is you choose the option with the lap pool:)
Great to see the GPS once home!!
I keep my training the same. But then again, it’s not terribly hard training already.
On vacations, I normally low down the training intensity and spend time training kids (jog, sprints and cycling) and walk with the wife. We create challenges for ourselves and I like to loose those challenges to kids. So not a very structured training, but fun with workouts.
Usually jogging as it’s the simplest to prepare for. Intervals if I have access to is a treadmill or light jogging otherwise
Training in vacation: walk during the whole day through an unknown place, just to end with a nice dinner!
As soon as I work out where I’m going I fire up Garmin connect and try and plan some runs. I’m a morning person so I’m usually done before I need to do anything else …
I’m getting back to running after months spent on gym. Finally weather is getting better. No treats and sweets however ;)
On Vacations i try to use it for training as much as i can, i.e. once a day, but this time, i’ll run a marathon. so it will be : resting – marathon – resting :)
As I said. running and Paragliding,
But when the weather is not agree to le my fly, just trekking
I like to run new routes and do some activities that I cannot fit into my usual schedule.
