It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

Casual runs on vacation, not looking to set a PR, no distance I need to hit, just get out and explore new sites while running a few miles. Always fun when it’s early in the morning before the city really starts to wake up and get busy.
It depends on where we are. Usually just cut back on training and eat allll the food.
Vacation, oh man that would be nice. I suppose if I took a vacation I would tell myself to keep with my workout and running schedule but I’m sure I would end up on the beach all day with a drink.
Destination marathons
Unless I have my bike with me its usually running as doesn’t need anything extra and can get to see some of the sights :)
Last vacation I went to Sweden to row for 7 dayes at the lakes with only a tent and some food. Great combination of relaxing and training!!
I usually trade volume for intensity and use recovery runs as a way to explore my locale.
Explore and rejuvenate.
Vacations = longer dog walk, less running, biking.. I am not sure to do it right :-)
Running on a vacation is a great way to check out the locality. That’s what I do.
If I’m on vacation by the ocean I try to do more open water swimming or kayaking.
I still run on vacation, it’s an addiction.
I tend to do a lot of hiking on vacations. Possibly skiing as well in the winter. There’s definitely a lot less exercising than on my normal schedule at home.
Vacations are for being lazy and recuperating. I rarely swim/bike/run while on vacation unless I’m at the beach!
Trail Running and some open water swimming..
Cut back, but only a little, unless I need to keep on plan for a race.
Running of course!
If I’m somewhere with a beach, I run before sunrise every day. It’s such an amazing feeling.
Running around while my wife is still asleep
First up: head to the hotel gym, treadmill run, lif, close the door quietly behind me when I leave … And head for anything and everything other than “training”.
Running and or a swim at a hotel pool.
vacation is time for a break from everything. Usually I will go to a surf destination and focus on that but there is always time for a run or swim.
run run and run again
Usually… some drinking intervals. Quite exhausting, so tasty supplementation and long regeneration sleep are necessary :)
Since we have two small kids, getting in training hours can sometimes be challenging during the busy weekdays. That’s why I usually really enjoy training lots during vacations. My preference is staying somewhere close to good OW swimming waters or a pool so that I can do both a swim and run workout every day.
running and just enough to be net zero with the extra sweets I’ll eat
Cut back…surf, hike, bike.
Running wherever possible and then HIIT on the hotel bike!
While on vacation I try to carry my bike and in advance I scout published trails or tracks so that I can slip some recreational rides.
Mountainbiking kayaking and swimming is how i keep myself bussy on vacation!
Running and hiking of course.
I try and get my runs in early – just as the sun is rising. That in itself provides a vacation from the vacation! Usually get in at least a 5k..
Hiking + open water swim
More miles = more ice cream.
I usually just run and check if there are any local races; I’ll do pretty much any race that is available.
family holidays so run first thing then try and fit in a ride or swim without ruining everyone else’s holiday!
A run in the morning and then I transition to an all you can eat diet for the remainder of the day.
Run on vacation. Easier to bring the gear for that.
Running, usually early before I get caught up in doing stuff.
On the rare occasion that I go on holiday I tend to wind down the training but largely make up for that with walking around and visiting places.
Thanks for the giveaway !
I always bring my running gear on vacation (love to run at the beach).
I always pack with intentions of tuning but only make it out 50%. of the time
Since it’s only about an hour out of my day – I press on and get that workout in. I try to work out early in the day – so I don’t interupt the day’s scheduled/or unscheduled activities. I do the bon-bon thing the rest of the time. It is vacation afterall :)
When i’m rarely on vacations i try to rest completety from training and spend every second of my free time with my little son, which actually loves to run and ride his bike… So now i’m thinking that in fact that’s not resting at all hehehe
Depending on where I am at. Usually stick to just running so I do not have to transport a bike.
Running shoes don’t take up much room, so on vacation, I tend to stick to running alone.
Vacations are a great time to expand on my Strava Personal Heatmap!!! So, I try to take a page out of the DC Rainmaker playbook and get as many runs and rides in as I can when I travel.
Mountain biking for sure!
Normally running whenever/wherever we are.
In the last time we do prefer discovering new places by bike.
A sightseeing jog on the weekend citybreak :-)
Morning runs only. Most bang for the buck, still leaves a lot of flexibility for the family for the rest of the day.
hiking mostly, no real structured training – it’s a vacation!
I usually don’t plan anything, and take my bike and get lost, it helps finding new route for training.
I normally take my bike on holiday and make it an integral part of the trip.
Typically I schedule races in exotic locales and turn the week after into a vacation. Or if I am going on a cruise, I will get there a day early and do a race before boarding. But during a normal vacation, I will usually do some basic morning calisthenics and running. I let the diet go a bit and don’t do anything serious.
Always run on vacation. If the water is ok, swimming is fine!:)
I always use my vacation trainings to catch up with my trainings if I am behind scheudle.
Vacation time = training time.
I hit it hard. Wake up early for a run, swim or bike. My wife and kids like to sleep in, I’m programed to wake up at 5:am. So I get 2-3 hours or solid training in before breakfast. Then I go spend the day with my family.
My intentions run 10km per day. My reality no run and eat what ever i can!
I simply don’t go on vacation ;)
Just got back from Spain. My sis inlaw was training for the Madrid Marathon so I ran with her. Between training and walking we averaged 10 miles a day. Love these types of working vacations!
Light maintenance workouts. Rest is part of training.
most of the time running and some swimms to relax the muscle
Swimming if I can. But always running
The next holiday is going to be used to end this 6 month taper I’ve slipped into.
Mostly running or hiking. Laziness wins sometimes, after all I’m on vacation!
I usually opt for a run, eat piece to enjoy the views/new scenery.
Easy runs exploring the destination.
I normally take the opportunity to hit it a bit harder, when I’m on a real vacation….
With that said, my vacations this year:
Texas – Marathon (January)
Boston – Marathon (April)
Berlin – Marathon (And Oktoberfest) (September)
Lexington – Bourbon Chase – 200 Mile Relay (October)
New York – Marathon (November)
I guess it doesn’t matter this year… I’m Racing on Vacation.
I like to continue my training, but try and find a way to make it a little more fun, and incorporate it intro my vacation, like going on a run in a scenic area, or a swim in the ocean if near the ocean. I never like being stuck in a hotel gym doing workouts, kills my vacation mood.
I tend to run more when I am on vacation/travel, just to explore wherever I am on my own foot. Never used a treadmill at hotels.
During tri season I don’t get enough strength training as it’s always swim/bike/run. If there is a gym, time to lift things up and put them down!
else run.
Typically a long trail mountain run at 6:00 or 7:00 am.
Vacation training is usually just fun, easy miles. Running is a good way to explore a new city.
Depends on where I’m at…I wouldn’t say I do any specific training though. My main goal is to just remain active. Whether it be hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming…anything really.
Running, hiking and mountain bike
summer, regardless of the place, it is usually a period of preparation for the fall marathon
Love to explore new running spots while on vacation. And I do try to squeeze in a swim or two.
I find that I actually have more time to run while on vacation, since the house/work routine does not come into play.
Doing an ultimate family road trip this summer, Ontario to BC, but back east via the US. My Strava heatmap will be amazing once I am back!
Morning runs if I can and I definitely search out hikes in the area.
Always intend to run and/or bike, but always find myself on a “recovery” vacation.
Pack the running shoes and try to get in whatever miles I can before the kiddos get up.
Lighter workouts, almost always running. It’s a great way to explore a city. Renting bikes with the family probably doesn’t count as a workout but it’s fun!
Running after a long day of sightseeing.
Reading, or if an adventure holiday everything
Love running while on vacation, great way to see new things and get more familiar with the location.
I love training on vacation because….I actually like training and the rest of the day I can actually relax/recover rather than sitting at a desk for 10-15 hours.
nothing if I am skiing, running on a summer vacation.
I love to do barefoot running on vacation and combine it with some workouts from freeletics with my girlfriend! :-)
I usually cut on swimming and running but often, I’ll go on bike rides a little more, longer rides, with my wife if we can.
Mo Morning run before breakfast!
i’ll be doing a race as training: there’s a 10 sea miles run on the island i’ll be at the coming week….
Always push forward with training. Although often modified, I execute as close as possible.
Especially in my line of work, I have to maintain the highest state of readiness.
Takes sacrifice, but cannot afford a day off!
I usually run, bike, swim, fly fish, and hike on vacations (when I’m not sleeping, eating, lounging). I would love to be able to track my progress with a watch like this! Thank you for giving us the chance to win!
Work and/or vacation travel, it’s all the same, squeeze in what you can, but running gear is way easier to pack than a bike!
Vacation usually means just that!!! Break time!
In vacation i run with my dog, for fun, for sightseeing and for Training.
Summer is race time so training carries on regardless!!
Usually daily hiking and swimming. Try to get in some runs as well, if possible. Almost never cycling. Except that one time when we went cycle touring in Catalonia ☺
I normally cut back. I packed loads of workout hear and end up using less than a quarter of it!
best time is when spending it in the saddle, a warm evening in the summer, blue sky, sunset and with a illite breeze of perfect temperatured wind.
