It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

It’s a chance for me to do more quality running with my dog Billy!
Run run and run With 6 children vacation is more of workout sometimes than being at home
Most of my vacations revolve around skiing, so I guess you could call that a form of cross training.
Only running, since I cant carry my bike with me and finding a place to swim is complicated…
run and bike a lot
Practice my competitive eating!!! Forget actual, physical exercise I’m on vacation
Beer mile but without the mile.
Always hit the mill if in the hotel… or get on the bike! Definately hitting the weights
What’s a vacation again? does training ever stop?oh yeah that’s when your injured right
My training during my summer vacation is : a regular run day then a day off, regular run day, etc … I habitually do a 10 km(6 miles). If my vacation are during marathon training, then I follow the training plan
My vacation training consists of running and some swimming if possible. I do tend to back off the intensity and just enjoy the scenery. Ice cream is always good!
Trail running and mountain biking on vacation!
Run before we eat and drink to excess.
It depends on the vacation.
If I travel its just relaxing and seeing new things/places.
If I stay at home I will use the time to train (primarily cycling) a lot more than normally.
Weight lifting at the gym and then easy walking or jogging after that.
Brick session of run to the sea no matter how far before a open water swim followed by ice cream and a bus return journey!
Limited training a lot of good goodies :)
On vacation I ALWAYS fit in a good run that looks challenging. It’s nice running without time restraints and without work on my mind.
I’ll bring running gear with me just in case the mood strikes, but most of my vacations are pretty active anyway so I usually just say all the hiking/sightseeing/whatever else is cross training and call it a day.
On vacation.. it is chillax time…. have a few beers, desserts with the meal – the full works.
Vacation runs are the best, I love running in new places. Exploring all the sights and sounds while running is the best way to experience them.
Training on vacation is a great way to see a new place!
Continue training on vac (running, strength) but cut back a little bit so we can do more vac activities
It’s been ages since my wife and I’ve taken a proper vacation – but this is the year! Heading out to run the Squamish 50!
I try to exercise self control at restaurants, at least 3x daily.
running shoes; run, hike or walk!
Try to get in a few runs to burn off the cocktails.
Everything that my trainer writes :)
To me vacations is all about outlet and put on application all the training i have done. I always try to plan big races during holidays, as last year, i’ll take holidays to attend the xterra in France, it’s great course and a great venue.
I like to practice triathlon but i’m former mountainbiker (dowhill), and i also use my holydays to go on the big bike and do some runs in French alps. I like Les gets and Morzine. I also like to make long road ride in the mountains, climbing roads with a sunny weather is always awesome, specially when the ride starts early in the day.
Usually, I just plan on running when on vacation.
A lot more running
We walk. Everywhere. March the kids all over, no matter where we are. We all get up early (naturally) and are moving by 730ish.
3 year old and 7 year old boys.
on vacation usally my workout is a few laps in the pool and then run back to my chair and grap some refreshments ;-)
Vacations are a time for me to take a break from the training schedule. I might swim, bike, canoe, hike, or run, but with the only goal being to have fun and spend time with family and friends.
I usually try to continue my training as much as possible, but it often gets cut back. Unfortunately.
Try to stick to my schedule but it never works out that way and ice cream ends up winning
Usually running or swimming depending on the locale
Mainly running.. or swimming, or rollerblading, whatever I can pack small enough to carry w me.
Lets see, spinner bike and some weight training, just kidding.
Last vacation my wife and I took was a 15 year anniversary trip to do Ironman Cozumel.
I always try to get a few runs or rides in during a vacation, but its never as much as I do at home, or as much as I plan to do during said vacation.
Ice cream consumption is on point though.
I try to press on with scheduled workouts but ice cream wins most times.
Depends on the vacation. Try to at least hit a gym or hike/walk/run. If it’s Ride the Rockies ‘vacation’, that is the exercise!
The mountain bike and trail shoes always goes with. Must explore new surroundings
Vacation = Training Camp!
since I usually don’t have a bike with me on vacations, I will try to get a few runs in.
running and swimming when logistics allow.
Training turns into recovery and guilt on my frequent work trips.
I like to stay with the same workout schedule. I have had some of my best workouts in the hotel gym late at night (after the kids are down).
Biking early morning before temperature rises too much, walking late afternoon with a pit stop at the ice cream stand :)
I normally try to fit more in when on holiday (vacation) and use it as a chance to explore wherever I am as I usually struggle to find time to do as much as I would like to at home. I’m always amazed how much you manage to fit in Ray!
The wife and I have actually run a marathon while on vacation…when we were touring the UK a couple of years ago, we took a side trip to Isle of Man and ran the marathon there.
Thanks for the giveaway Ray!
We always bring run gear but really only run for fun. Sometimes we schedule our vacation so we can race at the beginning and relax for the rest of the time.
On vacation I love to just go exploring on a run or bike ride. I usually find a hill and just take off with a set turn around time. Would love this watch so I can use the bread crumb feature.
Maybe a light run a couple days of the trip, otherwise I am there to just get away and relax.
Nothing wrong with a taking a little time off and enjoying vacation.
I usually use the opportunity to do a long run on a new and beautiful route (along the beach, in a park, etc.). Usually, I also try to rent a bike for one or two days, you get to see so much more of the area than walking or driving a car and it’s exercise.
Run, Run, Run
Replace weights with drinks and food in my hands; keep the reps high and focus on upper body arm work only…
Mostly stick to the plan, it’s usually easier in vacation without work in the way. But it’s hard to travel with the bike so that is limited and it has to be sure to impact family time, that has to come first.
Run somewhere fun and scenic!
I was in Havana Cuba on holidays last November, I got up early and jogged along the the promenade while watching the fisherman haul in their catch. Running in a foreign city is great to visit the place and see people living their lives.
I live in Thailand and my vacations are always at the beach, and I love running barefoot at the beach.
Yearly training schedule depends on the yearly cycle. Generally keep on training or even ramp it up… But focus on good recovery for body and soul.
The fenix 3 would amazingly help me to document this in my next vacation (Spain) so feel free to send it over to Moscow
Most likely replacing routine weight training with bodyweight exercises. Will be running and, depending on the locations, hiking or having fun with water sports.
Depends which city I’m in. I’ll do a day pass at local cross fit gym. Then check my ambit how many beers I burned then drink twice as many
Running and swimming
I plan my holidays to be able to train more ;) So just got back from Mallorca with 800 cyclo-miles in the legs and a bit of running done too.
Just some running in the morning
Running is the easiest, and I simply go with the flow of where I am and who I’m with
Running, walking on the beach and eat.
I use vacation time to play and explore the world around me. Whether it be hiking Michigan’s Pictured Rocks trail, or riding Copper Harbor’s incredible trail network. Get out and play!
Are trips r always action adventure trips so we normal scale back the intensity of our workouts since we want to enjoy the views
Usually short 5k runs or if I drive I will bring a bicycle for some slower 20mile rides
I usually train and sometimes race. I’ve done 3 mile training runs on cruise ships as one example. Makes for cool GPS plots when the ship is moving. I’ve also raced on mini-vacations while living in Europe.
Mountain biking and hiking with plenty of recovery nap time! I rarely get to play bikes and hang out with my husband, so that becomes the vacuum priority.
Vacation time = more training :-) Running for Stockholm Marathon and some Cykling and swimming training for IM Klagenfurt and IM Kalmar this year.
No time to kickback and eat cookies here :-)
I usually pretend that I’m going to continue my usual routine or maybe cut back to 75% depending how long or short the vacation is. Typically though the reality is normally about 25% of what I would normally due followed by more eating and resting then I care to admit!
getting away from the ….
When I’m on vacation I plan on hunting for Strava CR’s, but end up doing easy paced runs instead.
For me, when I’m vacationing, I wear my FitBit and try to maximize my steps. Other than that, I’m willing to let vacation be vacation. Thanks for doing this!
Tri Training! Season is knocking up the door so everything and as much as I can! :D
My vacation training usually consists of waffles and mimosas. Unless I’m snowboarding. Then its waffles, mimosas, and snowboarding.
I love early morning runs while on vacation. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore a new area while also seeing how a different culture wakes up. I would love to get my hands on a Fenix3. I have a Fenix2 that I wear durning dragon boat practice and I’m extremely disappointed that it won’t measure stroke count and heart rate at the same time.
longer bike rides around my favourite training area with lot of kilometres and metres of ascend :-)
Usually I run a bit more than normal, but focus is on keeping my normal schedule.
It’s one of two things: either continue ‘as usual’ (ahum, in theory) and/or: try and run at least one race while I am there. That means my vacation could be aimed completely at racing (1st Dublin Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon) or just trying to find a great spot to run (soon: Colorado & Washington). But I’m too hooked not to try and get some runs in :)
Eat Icecream and cookies
I don’t always go on vacation but when I do, I prefer to continue to train.
First i will try to press on as per the schedule but change the distances depending the location and weather
Vacation time means more training when i am actually home. But on Holiday the training is reduced to zero in favor of great food and ice cream
Training and vacation to me are not peanut butter and chocolate, they don’t go great together. Only thing I want to race for on vacation is the last beer, last slice of pizza, or last slice of pie (uhhhmmm pie…).
Train, but differently. My annual kitesurfing trip is weeklong core training.
Mis vacaciones son: I pack my shoes, short, tshirt and my garmin 310xt.. And… I run a lot… everyday… everytime.. everyplace..
I tend to do more running on vacation because I typically cannot bring my bike. The running increases which helps offset all the ice cream, big meals and booze.
I try to get in smaller distance runs while on vacation. I figure 3 miles is better than nothing!
Training is for suckers. Just show up and race!
If I’m training for a race, then continue on schedule, otherwise take some light pace runs to enjoy the scenery.
What’s a vacation? Coming from Scotland I only go on warm weather training camps!
Getting some runs in in a new place is pretty awesome on vacation.
I try to run early in the morning, before everybody wakes up for breakfast. I usually go for reasonably long runs (15-20 km) at a leisurely pace (around 5:00 min/km) and pick the route that takes me through the most scenic spots of the place I am at: along the coast if I am at the beach, passing by the major monuments if I am visiting some city. In some places, running is the only way I manage to explore he location…
