It’s giveaway time! Partly because it’s been a while, partly because it’s Friday and it seems fitting, and partly just cause I’m on vacation and this seemed a whole lot easier than writing an in-depth review.
This time I’m giving away a Garmin Fenix3 multisport watch, sponsored by Clever Training. It’s the only watch I brought with me on vacation (yes, I know, only one watch – incredible!)
So how do you enter?
Simple: All you need to do is write a comment below with what type of training (or I suppose racing) you typically do on vacation. Do you cut back, or press on as per the schedule? Or does all training just simply shift to eating ice cream and chocolate bonbons?
The winner will get to choose any Fenix3 variant from Clever Training. This could be the base grey one (seen middle in photo above), or the more swanky Sapphire unit with the metal link strap. And then you can get it with or without the HR strap. Totally your choice!
As usual, Clever Training is sponsoring the giveaway. Remember you can save 10% off anything they sell through either the coupon code or the DCR/CT VIP program, plus of course free US shipping for goods over $75US.
Thanks for reading!
The giveaway entry period will run through Monday, April 27th, 2015 until 11:59PM US Eastern Time. Winner will be selected randomly. One entry per person. The product will then be ordered immediately and shipped immediately, assuming in stock.

Running and hiking mostly. Unless I’m at the beach then something slightly resembling swimming.
Running from the beach to the mountain. Anyway I’m lactose intolorante
Generally, for me vacation means shifting multisport training to focus on ingesting as much hops and barley as possible!
Morning run to explore a new area, and then afternoon strolls through said areas!
Al
I would plan routes and do my training as part of my vacation. I would also eat large volumes of ice cream.
gotta be a bit of both ray,
sea swim… ice cream
quick run along the beach to get more ice cream
cycle up the hils to….you guessed it, the ice cream shop! :D
On vacations I usually do a big bike Block. If I am off season it is either hiking or skiing.
The bike always comes on vacation…It All Bike All the Time!!!!
I partly shift to ice cream mode. I swim, run and cycle during holidays. I skip the gym part of my training sceduele.
Have to run wherever you go! And swim if you are able!
Last trip I went on was a 2 month work trip near Lake Tahoe. I brought the road bike, mountain bike, wetsuit etc.Had a blast!
When im on vacation it. Training stops.. Unless you count lifting beers.
I ride MTB all the morning. It’s something I can’t do during the rest of the year. I only stop the days I am really tired
Instead of training, I take long walks on the beach or go kayaking in the ocean with my wife.
I get up extra early to run and explore the new place. I usually sneak in a few swims in the hotel pool if possible.
I consume more drinks and run less.
Usually a morning run followed by a lot of lazy pool time.
Running has the fewest prerequisites, so that is the default, but if the location is good for a bike, I’ll bring that along…
I love to run or hike in new spots, 90% of the time, some sort of physical activity is planned in my holiday. This summer I’m hitting Hawaii a few weeks before a half marathon; so, on top of several planned hikes and bike rides, I’m looking forward to getting in some miles at sea level, on the beach and near the ocean. Should be refreshing for my mind and body!
It’s all arm work (lifting the wine glass to the mouth)
I ramp up when I’m on holiday, love the extra time to train.
Vacation is the best time to train harder.
I will head straight out to the trails. Half my bag will be running clothes and shoes. My mileage will go up 50% on vacation each summer.
Find a trail for a trail run
Long swimm in the morning, bike right after ;)
In the evening a run and a short swim…
But its the bike that takes up most of my time :P
Vacation is what I train for! I usually schedule an event during my vacation. I go all out for that, then maybe some light workouts the following days.
Chilling. Exercise consists of lifting the glass of whatever I’m drinking to my mouth.
my vacation time is now taken up wondering where all your admirers came from. Once upon a time I only had to compete against a few hundred, now you get 100000s of followers. Be careful not to loose your head, stay real and avoid going over the top (your readers have noticed your getting close to edge). The balance is difficult, keep and grow your audience, but at the same time stay small. Yes impossible.
Vacations.. just running. nothing long, nothing fast. followed by ice cream of course. Or was it ice cream than a dream of running, oh who cares.
Vacation is for walking/exploring and drinking bourbon & champagne (depending on the time of day)!
Vacation; Training sometimes. Ice cream definitely.
Would always try and get out for an early morning run although not really training more a tourist jog. Always a good way to spot the popular breakfast spots when travelling in the US :)
vacation? cheesecake > training.
Vacation’s a great chance to see new places and get off the beaten track – love trying different activities when away – trail running, hiking, kayaking, anything to get the body working and fire up the soul!
For me it’s the opposite! Holiday time is when my activity is enhanced! During the year I prepare with aerobic training and strength to reach the holidays as I was conditioned to straight days of trekking and canyoning expeditions!!!! But these days always time for a chocolate or bonbons :)
I usually just run on vacation…that and eat a lot!
My vacations are usually planned around races. Go hard in different countries
It’s usually limited to running and/or swimming. I don’t tend to travel with my bike.
Usually I try to keep my mileage the same and simply cut back on the intensity. There isn’t a much better way to experience different locations than on a bike or run. Especially if you are able to not worry about time, speed, or pace. Just go out and see the area and enjoy the views.
I try to keep up with my running regimen, cycling depends on location and how lazy I want to be.
I tend to let most training slide on vacations or replace it with shorter workouts, but I always try to stick to my long run schedule.
You can always run. Swim if its a tropical vacation. Margarita’s for recovery.
Bodyweight exercises in the hotelroom and lots of ice-cream.
Typically workouts become run only, with a lessening of volume, or intensity.
Always try to sneak in what I can. Run here, gym cycle there. Very excited for upcoming vacation, bringing the bike with to hit up beautiful roads on the old stomping ground!
I usually switch Running for other sports like Tennis and Soccer
Vacation time means traveling to see my sister and running around with her kids. But it includes some mountain bike trails, park runs, beach runs, and the regular compound movements in a local gym.
Typically just running / hiking while on vacation though we do look for 10k to half marathons around where we are traveling and try to take advantage of any that sound interesting.
Never stop running. Enjoy the city, the trail, the World
on vacation I usually biking, mostly MTB. This is great opportunity to discover bew places and trails. For this Garmin is must have companion.
Best ragards, Mario
I run without feeling guilty about all the other things that I’m not getting done.
Some gym training if available, and mtb, if happen to be at the beach a lots of beer ;)
My girlfriend and I always have an early morning run , so that when we hit the buffet table for breakfast we don’t feel AS bad
usually hiking and biking as I finally have time for longer trips on vacation
when I am somewhere near the sea go swimming in the morning
usually running…but depends on the location ;)
My vacations tend to include a lot of hiking and mountain biking, so I end up cutting back on running.
Happy if I can find some time for training between all family activities. If I am lucky I can squeeze in all workouts even if they are shorter than planned.
Short runs in all directions from the hotel to do some exploring.
Eating lots of icecream, and doing laps around the camping grounds while the kids are asleep! Single-dad mode!
Bring my running shoes, but try and enjoy something unique to where I vacation.
On vacations I usually search for events at the city I’m visiting and fit it between my others activities.
I press on as per the schedule. Some call it obsessive, I call it dedication.
On a good day I’ll try to get in a short run before my kids are awake. Other than that, it’s mostly a greatly increased step count.
Never stop running! When on vacation doing trails if possible, and if not I do barefoot running. Even hiking in the mountains is great
Vacation is for eating all the food I can’t eat in my training season. I know is a horrible strategy, but I love food :) (and the incentive for training is lose the pounds I gained).
During my vacation I keep on training. My training becomes more divers. Ussualy I’m cycling but now I ad running to my program. Because it cost less time. The time I save by switching cycling for running becomes familytime.
Lots of swimming. My girlfriend loves to kayak so it’s a win-win. I get in my workouts and she paddles along next to me. Sometimes she even lets me tow her along for resistance training!
Lots of running and if there’s a good pool I’ll get in some laps.
Vacation time is a good time to drool over the latest power meters…
Run when I can
Vacation is better when I get to experience the place I am visiting through running. I get a much more intimate feel of the place I am at.
on vacation, my intention is to keep my running schedule but usually family time wins out.
run bike swim hike, lots of it, but with no structured training, just out enjoying the sport with no pressure to do any workout specifically!
If I’m on a running plan, I try to maintain that on vacation. When I’m not on an actual plan, I just do whatever I can do and don’t fret about it too much.
everything on trails
Sleeping is the best training, right? Lots of sleeping.
I eat so much on my vacation that I have to keep on with my training, otherwise I would have to push a lot on the following two months to recover pre vacation performance/weight.
My typical training involves power meter based interval training combined with endurance rides. However while on vacation, my bike never seems to come with me and so I resort to gym workouts and step running (and eating great food from the locals!).
No bike and swim, less running, more family.
short runs. Open water swimming if I’m on a beach. Best vacations are where I’m doing something everyday.
our vacations are usually very full of activity so training waits till I get home
Openwater swimming, sightseeing running and a lot of sleeping
I usually cut back while on vacation, manly shorter faster runs.
i usually increase my training on vacations, as I typically have more free time than during a work week.
Carb- (and protein- and fat-) loading, some running and swimming. No bike unless I’m somewhere that I have access to a loaner. Maybe some surfing if the locale and conditions are right (which gives me an idea – need to try wearing a GPS for a surf to see how far I cover in a session..)
Just some leisurely riding on my trike (Kmx Cobra).
On vacations, my running typically shifts to very long walks. Most recently, that meant hiking through Canyonlands and Arches Nat’l Parks with my brother. The shift going from home at sea level to a minimum elevation at 5k feet definitely kept my heart rate up though!
I like to continue with my running schedule but usually scale things back a bit. Running is quick and easy while on vacation.
When I’m on vacation, I choose to run or I try to find a pool to do some laps in (open water swimming is fine as well). Overall, running gets the job done!
opportunity to run new terrain, always looking for new trails everywhere I go
I am a cyclist and if possible, try to find a spin bike, if not I’ll go for a couple longish walks throughout the vacation.
I generally exercise and train more on vacation, it’s always more scenic, or at least different from typical training grounds, hence wanting to get out more and enjoy it.
As much as possible – ideally get days at the end of the vacation without the family to cram and always plan some routes on a gps. Love Heatmaps and go explore.
I always look for a trail or a route that I can confidently get to and back from without getting lost. If needed I will also hit the treadmill in the hotel, but I prefer to be outside.
Swimming in the sea or the pool, playing with the kids (more exercise than the swimming!) followed by a cold one (or two)
Early runs before anyone else is up, then chill.
When on vacation so is training except for the occasional bike ride.
there is only one sport during vacations: chocolate icecream-athlon!!!!!!
Enjoy the change of scenery with my wife, hike a mountain and enjoy the view.
I run to explore new places (cities / trails). So far I have had run vacations (aka. half marathon races) in DC, MD, PA, NC with my Garmin Forerunner 210. As I am a slow runner, running a full marathon—which is what I am currently training for—is reaching its battery limit per single charge. Having a long battery life and elevation profile right on hand like a Fenix 3 does would be extremely beneficial as I am moving up the distance to an ultramarathon!
Swimming at the beach!
Running, swimming, hiking, kayaking…really anything!!
