While I was enjoying the umpteenth day straight of mind-bogglingly sunny weather here in the ‘City of Light’, it occurred to my that St. Patrick’s day is Monday. Despite the French fondness for any reason to take the day off, it is not considered a national holiday here. Not that it would matter anyway, I get to spend some 12-14 hours on a plane bouncing across the ocean.
So for no other reason than it’s (almost) St. Patrick’s day, and sorta-spring like (lucky charms and all), it’s time for a giveaway.
The prize is simple: A $400 credit to to Clever Training to buy anything from the site you’d like. You can use it on anything they offer, from a Garmin/Polar/Suunto watch to a PowerBeam trainer, or a Quarq power meter. If the item is over $400US, you’ll simply pay the difference, shipping is free either way. The giveaway is open to all readers – including international folks.

Having overdone it on Monday with a long run after almost 2 weeks lay up after a calf pull I have spent most of this week layed up again with a little tendonitis. Back in action again on Sunday though, hopewfully with a pain free 5KM run by the harbour here in Cork.
After spending nearly 13 weeks of the last 26 weeks (6 months) in Sochi tomorrow evening I fly home(Canada) never to return. Well actually my experience here in Sochi has been amazing, from the wonderful people I’ve been working with, awesome food, and really amazing spirit at all of the Olympic and Paralympic venues, my whole experience here has been incredible.
I didn’t think being in Sochi would top being in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter games, even though 2010 was in my home country, and Canada won so many gold medals it was party time every night. But somehow Sochi was just as amazing in its own way.
Anyways, to answer the question at hand, I plan on a nice morning jog on the peer along the Black Sea here in Sochi, 10km for sure, perhaps 12-15km depending how I feel and the weather. Afterwards I catch a flight to Moscow and then Sunday home. I’ll take the week off and then my Triathlon training season starts.

We still have four feet of snow on the ground in Northern Ontario, so I’m going on my first-ever fat-bike excursion.
We have a nordic ski resort opening up their approximately 100km trail network to fat bikes this weekend. It’ll be -10C, but I’ve been dying to get cycling outside again after a long winter on the Tacx. We’ll see if I remember how to ride without a triangle of steel holding me up. :-)
An interval run Friday night and a 90min easy run Saturday. A hockey game on Sunday counts as cross training, right?

Ugh, weekends are mostly recovery for me — Monday/Thursday for upper body, Tuesday/Friday for lower, those are my serious workout days. Wed/Sat/Sun generally means a four mile dog walk and two to five mile run. Both just daily side stuff, not real workout time. Depending on time and weather, maybe some swimming, mostly for fun and even less workout-ish for the most part.
4-5 hours riding gravel on my cross bike. The race season is almost here!!!
